Tur Po
By: Uchechi Egbuhuzo and Whitney McCrea
There are a select few who take on the responsibility of becoming the Student Government Association President and Miss South Carolina State University. These young ladies have displayed great effort in supplying the student body with the best president and queen. Time is winding down until it’s time to choose the next two students to represent this university. Let’s see where these ladies plan to be in the future. What were your goals for this year? WM: My goals were to bridge the gap between residential halls and SGA, to bridge the gap between the alumni and the student body, to help students create better financial situations for themselves, to get discounts for the students from local community businesses, and to build school spirit. UE: To be totally honest, I wanted to be a queen that everyone could relate to. Because I know that I am a socialite, I wanted people to feel very comfortable around the queen they elected to represent them. I also wanted to become more involved with the local community, engage more with the SC State alumni, and add a new international flavor to the queens title this year. How have you seen your goals accomplished this year? WM: As a result of increased participation in our athletic events, I can definitely see school spirit growing. We are preparing the discount information for print. Mr. Marvis President has a financial consultant coming to speak with the student body the beginning of March. The gentlemen of the Student Government Association have also planned a tie affair, where they will engage in dialogue with the male population and teach them professional decorum.

FALL 2008 | STATED
UE: I can confidently say that I have seen a lot of my goals accomplished this year. With the help of my “fairy godmother” of an advisor, Ms. Adderson, I was able to have the coronation that I dreamed of ever since I was a bulldog freshman. With First Lady Cooper on my support team, I was able to complete my “True L.O.V.E. Lock-in” which focused on sisterhood, selfesteem, and relationship issues that women face when they are freshmen in college. I was also able to reach out into the community. I read to first graders at the local elementary schools emphasizing the importance of literacy with my “Reading with Royalty” Program. Through my “Day in the Life of a Queen” program my Royal Court and I spoke to female students at the local high school about preparing
n of wer for college, relationships, and peer pressure and presented a contest where they could possibly win the title of “Miss Teen SC State.” I have forged new relationships with alumni and have done my best to ignite a spirt of bulldog pride to all my peers. I am happy that I was able to accomplish a lot but I know that there could have been room for improvement. Student elections are soon. What type of person are you looking for to be the next SGA President (Miss SC State)? WM: Someone who is definitely tenacious, firm, caring, passionate, hardworking, a visionary, and possess a host of other characteristics I can’t remember at this moment. I am looking for the umph!! UE: Although physical beauty is what many people associate with a queen, physical beauty is NOT what defines Miss SC State. I would hope the next Miss SC State be a young lady who is confident, intelligent, compassionate, and “down-toearth.” A queen who is not afraid to stand up for what is right and to be a positive representative of her beloved Alma Mater. She would need to be a lady who has tough skin to endure the constant challenges, but yet a soft heart to also serve her community. What are your plans after graduation? WM: After graduation I plan to attend law school, and become a criminal defense attorney. UE: After graduation my plans include conducting research at St. Jude’s Hospital and preparing to attend medical school at the University of Louisville. As a young alumna, how will you give back to SC State? WM: I definitely plan to give back through service, but also as a financial donor. I will become and remain active in the alumni association and do what is required of me by my beloved university. UE: Most likely after graduation I will still be depending on my parents. In that case, I will have to result in donating my time to my beloved Alma Mater until I become that successful doctor. I am really interested in helping our admissions department recruit quality students to attend SC State and wouldn’t mind doing some recruitment presentations at high schools in my hometown.

THINGS ABOUT
SC STATE HOMECOMINGS The traditions at SC State have definitely changed since the 60’s and 70’s when students had the most fun at homecoming parades and games. In the 80’s, the students added Coronation as one the events during homecoming week. In fact, the Greek Stepshow was not added into the mix until the early 90’s. In the late 90’s, the SGA decided to host “Bulldog Jam” where they had some of the top artists in music come to perform in the Oliver C. Dawson Stadium. Now we have parades, games and concerts in the same week. Homecoming sure has improved over the last 45 years.

Ways To Stay Fit at By: Jessica Toomer SC State!
Everyone knows that it is hard to stay fit when you have classes and do not have time to go to the gym. Although we spend hours studying, burning mental energy, your body needs physical exercise to function at its peak. But with high school gym class a thing of the past and no parents around to remind you to get moving, how do you stay fit in college?
WORK OUT AT THE GYM
The gym can be a great place to work off stress from the pressures of school. Exercise should be fun because the more you enjoy it, the more likely you are to do it regularly. So find activities you like and make them apart of your routine.

HIT THE ROAD
All you really need for a workout are comfortable athletic shoes. Head to the track or check out our fitness trail, ride a bike, skateboard or do some in-line skating. If you use SC State’s fitness trails around campus, you should pick up a map in the student activities office or the gym.

HEAD 2 THE COURT
SC State has two tennis facilities. Orangeburg has a public golf course that students can use. There are classes and lessons offered by the school and the community. One of the great things about college is that if your friends don’t share your interests, you can usually meet other players easily.

JOIN THE CLUB
Even if you’re not at the level of NCAA competition, there are opportunities to play team sports. Check out intramural and club sports like soccer, basketball, lacrosse, ultimate Frisbee, and tons of others.

Everyday Ways to Get Active
Getting the exercise you need is easier than you might think. There are plenty of ways to add a little extra activity to your everyday routine. For instance:
1. Bike or walk to class, the library, or the store. 2. Park farther away than you normally would and walk. 3. Choose the dining hall on the far side of campus. 4.Try stretching, marching in place, or walking around during study breaks. 5.Take the stairs.

Step 1
ITS JUST BUSINESS
Money Advice
“
Create a budget
Even before you go to that job or internship, you should plan exactly how you will be allocating the money that you will be receiving. List all your expenses including your rent, phone bill, car payment, tithes, travel expenses, groceries and entertainment. Also, include extra money for miscellaneous expenses that will come up from time to time.
By: Abdalla Straker
The higher the interest rate, the better the returns you can expect to receive.
“
As we prepare to leave for summer vacation, at some point many of us will be either taking up a part-time job or paid internship. Even though gas prices have decreased, it does not mean for you to run your tank until it’s on E! Many of us are forced to learn financial discipline only after we are tossed into the world of work and an apartment after graduation. The fact that the U.S. economy is in a recession also gives us a good reason to develop financial discipline. See this summer as an opportunity to do so.
Invest
Step 2
Now that you know what your expenses are, you should have a fair idea of how much extra money you will have left.
Don’t just put the money saved into a regular checking account. Look for a savings or money market account with an attractive interest rate, at an institution that is FDIC approved.
This is the money that you will be channeling into your savings.
The higher the interest rate, the better the returns you can expect to receive.
You might also find it necessary to see if you can cut back on any expenses you have, so that your savings are enough to meet your goals.
Financial analysts say that you should have savings put aside to cover at least six months of your regular expenses.

In a very candid interview with James Jackson III, President of the Pan-Hellenic Council at South Carolina State University, STATED Magazine contributing writer, Tashana Francis, discussed everything from the “Kappa return” to how do you become apart of Greek life.
REBUILDING A LEGACY By: Tashana Francis
If you are not aware of the Pan-Hellenic Council, it consists of two members from each fraternity and sorority within the “Divine 9.” They come together to voice their opinions at monthly meetings. “Greekdom” is a term that is used to describe the unity that is felt by all Greek fraternities and sororities. PanHellenic Council was constructed to bring the “Divine 9” together to promote greekdom. “One of my first duties was to make sure all program obligations were not stepping on anyone else’s toes,” he says. According to Jackson, last year during Delta Week, there was the Miss Omega Pageant and the Zeta’s and Sigma’s probate shows. “I don’t want this to ever happen again. The little things count, just by making sure that no one has events on anyone else’s week. It just shows respect,” he states. In the past, there has been a strong representation of all the Greek organizations within the “Divine 9.” It was not until the late 90’s when things began to fall apart. Just recently, there was mishap with the Beta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. which led to their suspension. The return of the Alpha Lambda Chapter of

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. has been long awaited by those who are interested in joining this fraternity. “Just to clarify the Beta Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha has NEVER been suspended,” stated current chapter president, Quincy Mack. If you’re interested in the Zeta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho, it was reactivated in March of 1992, but has fizzled into none existence. There are a few young ladies who are trying to revive the chapter’s status. It is safe to say the chapters of Zeta Phi Beta, Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Phi Alpha and Omega Psi Phi will all be having intakes this semester. If you’re missing any friends in the next couples of weeks, don’t look for them! Stated Magazine wishes the best of luck to the “Divine 9.”
Preparing for Pledging 1. Make sure you have a 2.5 GPA. High GPA is preferred. 2. Shop around! Research each organization. 3. Get familiar with the organization you chose. 4. Treat it like a business. Make sure your qualified. And don’t worry, if you don’t make it this time around, don’t give up there is always graduate school. And according to Jackson, “Grad chapter does the real work! It’s a whole new world when you have to work and you’re outside of the confines of protected campus.”

ENTERTAINMENT Bobby Valentino The Rebirth
If you liked Bobby Valentino’s first two albums, you’ll appreciate the uniformity on The Rebirth. Like his previous releases, the set features uncomplicated-yet-effective production and lyrics about matters of the heart. In fact, the album is so consistent that Valentino has reprocessed a flute-y Tim and Bob beat, which was used in Special Occasion, his sophomore album, for “Make You the Only One.” Valentino cautions a lady about breaking his heart on “My Girl” against the backdrop of a repetitive guitar riff. Raphael Saadiq is featured on the commitment ode “Just Me & You.” GS BoyzWe all know that this wouldn’t be a Valentino project without the bedroom tracks which include the suggestive, “3 Is the New 2” and the lead single “Beep,” where Valentino compares sex to riding in a car. I give The Rebirth 4 out of 5 paws. It’s better than Special Occasion but not as good as Introducing Bobby Valentino.

Questions w/ David Banner By: Stephanie Bryant and Alicia Dowdy
AD: What degree did you obtain and why did you choose to major in that area? DB: I chose business education so I would know how to run my own business. I chose education because I still want to go back and teach kids or grown men and women how to make money. I think all the things that we want to be and we have a drive to be, having money definitely helps. If I can honestly obtain money and show other black men and women how to get it, I think I’ll be doing my job. SB: Did you think your degree gave you an extra boost as far as the hip hop industry is concerned? DB: Not necessarily. I think what it did for me the most was to teach me the importance of networking more than it helped me in business. But it’s not something that I regret. Most of the people who do it better than me don’t even have degrees. AD: Do you plan on going back to get a masters in your major? DB: I’m not in a rush. We go to school to obtain knowledge and make money. And I’m obtaining knowledge and making money. And you only hot for so long. So you got to get this while it’s here. Because the opportunities that I have are not afforded to most people that walk this earth. I’m probably one of the most blessed men that’s walking around. SB: What type of advice would give students who are trying to obtain a degree in music? DB: Make sure that your motivation for getting that degree is in the right place. Music isn’t bringing in the type of money it was before. So if you’re getting into it for money, you need to second guess it. AD: Why did you choose to do public speaking? DB: Cause I’m good at it. And I think black people take rap too literally. Rap is a business. This is a passion. With public speaking, I am able to speak, I’m able to articulate exactly what I mean, and stuff doesn’t get lost in translation when your doing a lecture. You’re telling someone exactly how you feel. I was student government president at Southern University in Baton Rouge, and I feel that I am a damn good public speaker; I just got to get back into it.

DAILY FACIAL SKIN CARE ROUTINE By: Denna Harrison
A good facial skin care routine should be simple to follow. It should not take more than 10 minutes of your time each day. Do it two times a day, once in the morning and again at night. There should be 3 basic steps in your daily facial skin care routine:
E EANS L C : 1 STEP Regular cleansing is important and when done properly, here are the correct steps to cleaning your face: 1. A Splash of water on your face. 2. Lightly massage with your facial wash for 30 seconds, (too long will cause dryness) Work up a lather. Massaging will boost the blood supply to the surface of your skin. This will lead to a fresher complexion.
E : TON 2 P STE 1. Use clear water to rinse your face. 2. Use a soft towel to pat your face dry. Do not rub the face. Residual water on the skin surface, especially those around the eyes, can cause wrinkling. Facial toners improve the skin’s texture when applied to oily skin after cleansing. 3. Apply a refreshing toner to freshen the skin. Avoid the area that is around the eye. This area is more delicate and prone to dryness.
3: STEP RE U T MOIS Use moisturizers that are water-based. 1. Dot the face with moisturizer 2. Massage the moisturizer in with your fingertips. 3. Use gentle and light upward strokes. The moisturizer will form a protective film.
*Tip: Oily skin needs a moisturizer too. Choose a moisturizer that is gentle, light and oil-free. *Tip: If you have Combination Skin use two types of moisturizers; In the day, use a light moisturizer. In the night, use a rich night cream. *Tip: If you have dry skin, use alcohol-free facial toner.

The Ultimate Guide to Healthier Skin
By: Denna Harrison
Using the wrong skin care products is not only a waste of money, it can also lead to permanent skin problems. But in order to choose the most appropriate products for your skin, you must first determine whether you have oily, dry, a combination, sensitive or normal skin. Your skin care regimen needs to be tailored to your specific skin type. The first step to better, healthy skin is finding your correct skin type:
Oily skin feels very greasy with large, visible pores. After a wash it feels fine, but by midday it looks shiny. There are also frequent break outs in spots. Oily skin types should use a non-greasy, milky skin cleanser that leaves no sticky residue on the skin. The best oily skin care is to make use of products that will gently cleanse oils from the surface of the skin and unclog pores. At the same time it should not damage or cause the skin to dry out. Neutrogena Rapid Clear Oil-Control $6.95, CVS
Combination skin is normal with a few dry patches and a few oily patches. Dryness is usually on the cheeks and oiliness is usually on the T-zone. After a wash, some areas feel dry and some smooth, but by midday the T-zone is shiny. T-zone refers to the skin that covers the forehead and from the nose down to the chin. This area is prone to oiliness. Therefore it has to be given the same treatment as oily skin. The proper skin care products meant for oily skin should be used in these areas.
Purpose Gentle Cleaning Wash $6.49, Walgreens or CVS
Sensitive skin can be easily irritated. Typical reactions are itching, burning, chafing and stinging. After a wash it feels dry and itchy in places. Sensitive skin types should only use mild soaps with no fragrance or fancy ingredients. When developing a sensitive skin care routine, use extra-gentle skin care products. Choose hypo-allergenic skin care products as they have been specially designed for use on sensitive skin. Olay Gentle Foaming Wash for Sensitive Skin $5.25; Walgreens, CVS
Dry skin feels dry to the touch and the pores are very fine. After a wash it feels tight, as though it’s too small for the face. By midday, flaky patches appear but you hardly ever break out in spots. Dry skin types should use cleansing soaps or cleansers with lots of moisture added.
Cetaphil Gentle
Skin Cleanser $8.99, CVS
Normal skin does not feel dry or oily. Pores are visible but not large or clogged. this type only occasionally break out in spots. The only care this skin requires is cleaning it twice a day with a mild cleanser or mild soap. Dove Essential Nutrients self-foaming cleanser $5.49, Walmart MARCH 2009 | STATED

FOR THE MEN
All is fair in love and war. However, this article will be focusing on love and ways that every man can please his woman on a physical, psychological and spiritual level. In many instances it may seem rather difficult to know exactly what to do in order to make one’s better half feel content and appreciated when in most cases it’s the little things that they long for. Attention and respect are two of the most valuable, while at the same time priceless, gifts that a man can give to a woman. Here are a few suggestions that can aid any male on the quest for balance and blissful intimacy within a relationship.
Pleasing the Modern Woman By: Moses O. Bell
STIMULATE HER MIND
The mind is equally important as the body; because of this, it is imperative to cater to the psychological side of one’s mate. This can be done through a deep conversation about situations the couple has encountered or goals it hopes to reach, such as treating the lady to a play, or by simply telling her how one feels about being in such a meaningful and inspirational relationship.
STIMULATE HER BODY After a long day at the office or a stressful string of exams, a woman needs to be pampered to the point of tranquility. The ideal way to do this is a full body massage with hot oil. It’s not a very expensive activity but the out come is worth more than gold. No one knows a woman’s body like her mate so this task should serve to relax her to the deepest extent.
STIMULATE HER SOUL There is no better way to stimulate the soul of today’s modern woman than through pure passion in the form of words which is poetry (the language of the soul and the voice of the heart). It may take a while, but an original poem can make the difference between another regular day and the moment that reminds her of why she cherishes her love life. It doesn’t take a professional to combine words that describe genuine emotions but it does take an honest soul.

Spring into Grooming Tips for the College Man! By:Jessica Toomer
Taking care of your face Men, would you believe that facial grooming has been an important part of a man’s daily regiment since the Egyptian Pharaohs! There is far more then lip balm and aftershave available for men. Today’s well-groomed man has an enormous range of choices for facial care and grooming. For men with the problem of oily skin, Vaseline offers a complete line of men’s facial skin care products highlighted by a moisturizer called Oil Control Hydrator, which is an oil free gel that is applied once in the morning and once before bed to clean exfoliated skin. There are many deep cleaning facial masks on the market today that will guarantee the careful purging of those impurities from your masculine skin and leave it feeling deep clean and smooth to the touch. So many men make the mistake of getting themselves a six pack abdomen and forget about their face care. There is nothing better then the seductive feeling of a woman rubbing her cheek to yours when it is soft as a baby’s bottom.
Taking care of your hair Guys with or without hair, dandruff is one thing that can instantly turn off a woman. If you are going for the first impression, you better get down to some personal grooming .
Every man wants to know what to do to impress the woman he likes. The only way to do this is to.... Groom! Undergoing some personal grooming treatments is something all men should think about. Many men prefer to get regular personal grooming treatments in a barbershop while other prefer to do their personal grooming at home.
Taking care of your nails Fingernails are another important part of personal grooming. Dirty or long nails are a turn off to most women. I don’t know about other women, but I don’t like to have a man with longer nails than I do. Never bite your nails, take time to groom them by clipping them with a nail clipper or filing them down. And don’t stop with the fingernails, if you know that your toe nails are long, cut them too. No woman wants to walk around campus and see a man with long toe nails and sandals on.
Dress to Impress Lastly, I had to come to clothing. This is also part of personal grooming. The type of clothes you wear and the way you wear them speaks a lot about your personal grooming. Take care of your dating and party clothes. Don’t hang out with your girl at home, dress to impress but comfortable. This gives you a very well groomed look and is a guaranteed to attract women anytime. Remember, you make the clothes, don’t let the clothes make you!
Men, this is for you. You want to know how to get the girl, these are the first steps. Now its up to you!

Finally Made It: A Struggle to the Pros
By: Alicia Dowdy
James Lee
Position: Offensive Lineman Team: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Age: 23 College Attended: University of Georgia/ South Carolina State University
Q. Did you play football as a child and when did you start? A. Actually, when I was younger I was too big to play in the youth leagues. I exceeded the weight requirements so I didn’t start playing organized football until I was in the 8th grade.
had an opportunity to play early because a lot of upperclassmen were leaving. I ended up transferring from UGA and playing for South Carolina State University. SCSU had just won the MEAC the year before I came and I had the opportunity to play early there.
Q. What high school did you attend and did you play football then? Did you play a different position? A. I graduated from Glade Central Community High School. I played a lot of different sports. I was an offensive and defensive lineman. I was also a forward on the basketball team and I threw the shot-put in track.
Q. Did you receive a degree from this institution and do you plan to use it in the future? A. Yes, I graduated from South Carolina State University in December 2007. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Business with a concentration in Early Childhood Development and I do plan to use my degree. My degree will be useful in trying to establish foundations or charitable organizations designed to help underprivileged families and youth.
Q. What college team did you play for and why did you choose that school to play? A. Right out of high school, I went to the University of Georgia. I chose UGA because of its reputation. The Bulldogs had just won an SEC championship and I believed that I

Q. What was the process like for you to reach the professional level?
A. The process was tough. It still takes a lot of sacrifice, hard work and practice in order to continue to get better. I think that coming from a smaller school, like South Carolina State, made me want to work even harder. We didn’t have a lot of televised games so I knew that I had to work really hard just to get my name out there. Also, we don’t have a long line of alumni that have played on the professional level, so there weren’t a lot of former players from my school to let me know
what to expect. Q. Do you enjoy your current team team and place? A. Yes. It’s a great atmosphere. All the players and coaches have a strong work ethic and we’re all working toward a common goal. Q. Were you star struck coming in as a rookie towards any of the veterans? If so, who? A. I was a little star-struck when I first arrived. I had grown up watching some of these guys like Derrick Brooks, Ronde Barber, and Joey Galloway play for years and it was just a totally different experience to actually be practicing and playing with these guys instead
of just watching them on television. Q. How has family life changed for you? A. Family life hasn’t changed that much. I’ve always been close with my family. Q. Have you received any phone calls from long lost relatives that want to come to a game now? A. Yeah, of course you know there are always going to be people who pop up that
you’ve never heard of or hadn’t heard from in years. But in general, it hasn’t been too bad. Q. Who was your inspiration for wanting to succeed to the professional level? A. I have had so many people that have been inspirational to me. I know that I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for their prayers, love and support. It’s really hard to single one person out, because there have been so many people in the course of my life, but Tony Jones was really instrumental in my success. He helped me train and prepare for the next level.

TRINIDAD & TOBAGO energy filled with wave activity. Before you leave this beach, you must try the famous bake and shark, a delicacy, which comes with the many different sauces of the island. The beaches on the North-eastern coast are sought out by those who love surfing. These beaches usually take over an hour to get to, but they are thoroughly enjoyed, having just enough waves and a moderate crowd of people. Persons are sometimes presently surprised by the appearance of the Leatherback turtle, as these beaches are also one of the very few nesting places of theses animals. The turtles nest during the months of April to June and their hatchlings can be seen making their way into the water about a month after. Night brings a whole new excitement as there are many parties that take place on the islands, especially during carnival time. Parties and fetes are almost the same, parties being more of a night club event, while fetes are usually outdoor events with entertainment from local artists. The Zen night club is a must. It is one of the most exciting night clubs, in addition to 51 Degrees, Space and Privé. Check the calendar of events. Ask the hotel desk for the list of activities. There is always an event happening! If you are lucky enough to be in the midst of the carnival season, there are cultural shows and events, where many beautiful costumes are displayed. Pelau is one of those dishes that really exemplifies Trinidadian cuisine because it is a mixture of various cooking styles. Pelau, or rice layered with meats and vegetables, is a variation of East Indian pilau, which originated in Persia where it is called polow. 2 cups Rice 2 lbs chicken or beef (preferably seasoned overnight with garlic, lime and onions) 2 table spoons vegetable oil or margarine Ketchup (add until flavor is acceptable) 1/2 table spoon Salt and pepper to taste 4 1/2 cups water 1 tin or cup pigeon peas 1 table spoon of sugar or 1 table spoon of caramel browning 1/4 cup minced onions 1 clove garlic (cut into small cubes or diced) 1/4 cup celery stalks (cut into small cubes) 1/4 cup chopped tomatoes 1 hot pepper (green)
Passion Fruit Cocktail 4 ripe passion fruits or 1 cup passion fruit juice 4 ounces rum 2 teaspoons sugar 2 cups crushed ice Angostura bitters Freshly grated nutmeg Squeeze the passion fruits and strain the juice. In a pitcher combine the juice with the rum, sugar, and ice. Stir well. Pour the mixture into 4 glasses. Add a dash of bitters and sprinkle nutmeg top each glass then serve..
Pelau
Heat oil - Add sugar, and heat while stirring until near black or brown according to taste (or use caramel browning for the better control of the browning process if unsure). Add seasoned chicken as soon as sugar is correct or suitable brown color. Stir at first and then cook for 10 minutes in covered saucepan over medium or low heat. Add vegetable oil or margarine, ketchup, pigeon peas (red kidney beans can be substituted), onions, celery, finely chopped garlic, and rice. Stir. Add tomatoes last. Add water, and hot pepper (whole, do not cut!) or pimento pepper. Bring to a boil. Cover saucepan and leave to cook on low flame, about forty minutes until the rice dries
Khurma 2 cloves ginger (finely grated) 1 tin (1 2/3 cups) evaporated milk 2/3 tin (1 1/4 cups) condensed milk 2 tbsp. coconut cream 6 cups flour 2 tsp. cinnamon powder 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter or margarine 6 dashes Angostura bitters Mix flour, ginger, cinnamon, and butter in a large bowl. Mix evaporated milk, coconut cream, condensed milk and Angostura bitters in a separate bowl. Pour the liquid mixture into the mixture of dry ingredients a little bit at a time. Mix until a dough forms. The dough should be “tough; that is, not stretchy.. Divide the dough into two balls. This makes it more manageable. Roll each ball out until about 1 cm thick. Cut dough into strips. Heat 1/2 cup of oil at medium-high heat. Fry batches of the kurma dough. Turn often. Remove when golden brown on all sides.

I’m a senior here at SCSU and I am scheduled to graduate in May 2009. Everyone around me has been making plans for the future; some people even know what exactly they will be doing the day after graduation. I, on the other hand, have no idea what my plans will be after I graduate. I feel lost at this point because time is winding down. What should I do? I need advice fast!
-Undecided Senior
??
It is really not too late to start making plans now. I would buy a diary and jot down all my options being a business major. Some options could be an internship, a paying job, or graduate school. You can map out exactly when you would like these activities to take place. A good arrangement would be to work first and gain some type of experience in the field, during this time you can start to send out applications to graduate school programs and see what happens from that point onward.
Q
I am currently in a long distance relationship. Before now, my boyfriend and I were together all the time. He just graduated and moved to his place of work.
Things have been kind of hard because I’ve been missing him and we hardly ever talk. I don’t know what to think anymore, at this point a million things run through my mind. What should I do?
-Crazy in love Well I don’t think you have anything to worry about just yet. I think you are a little overwhelmed by his physical absence and you want him to make up for that by calling you all the time. You have to realize that he works, and if he has a strenuous job, he might have to relax afterwards. So just give him the benefit of the doubt first, then if it still persists, you can take action .

HOROSCOPE Pisces
(February 19-March 20)
Minor aspects could exert a little pressure on a day when your patience levels are already quite low. There may be a sense that others are looking to you for solutions and answers, but it’s possible that someone’s request is driven by a lack of effort, rather than a lack of ability.
Virgo (August 23- September 22)
There may be some lingering or obstinate matters to deal with such as late work or make up test, but there’s a definite light at the end of the tunnel too. It may not be possible to take full advantage of a snippet of news or development just yet, but don’t be tempted to give things a nudge. Patience is key today!
Aries (March 21- April 19)
Libra (September 23- October 22)
There is a very favorable accent on work or school related matters today, but it’s not all about the daily grind and toil; far from it. While the current vibes should generate enough inner calm to deal with the unexpected in the work realm, there is also a welcome streak of fun scheduled for the evening too.
The morning’s positive vibes will be offset by colder ones this evening, which could impact on the way you deal with classes and/or extracurricular activities today. You might end up being a little too one-sided, or a little too chilly with someone. You need to recognize and admit your limits today! Don’t be to head-strong to take advice from a peer or professor.
Taurus (April 20- May 20)
Scorpio (October 23- November 21)
Gemini (May 21- June 21)
Sagittarius (November 22- December 21)
Cancer (June 22- July 22)
Capricorn (December- January 19)
Leo (July 23 - August 22)
Aquarius (January 20- February 18)
Today your sense of timing and knowing when to stop may well be important. Dazzling influences will dominate the day, while the evening’s vibes will be far less energetic. Get your school work done before sunset, when you’ll be at your most efficient and creative. Reserve the evening for winding down.
You may find that you’re caught between two different approaches today. One is the warm, emotional option; the other is the cool- headed, logical alternative. Trying to strike the right balance may be easier said than done. Look to a firesign friend or professor for the missing factor!
Romance may well add a little zing into the day, but significantly cooler influences this evening could send some confusing mixed signals. Try not to interpret a positive development or idea in a negative light! Don’t get discourage from a test or homework, push forward from it.
You’ll have a potent talent today, so don’t waste it. There’s an abundance of charisma, thanks to powerful aspects, which will enable you to say just the right thing at just the right time. This will be useful if you’re trying to impress others in class, or if you need to reverse someone’s opinion in a group decision.
Once you’ve figured out what you want, you’ll be able to take more decisive action, but it’s easier said than done. Possible area for the confusion include time management. It’s best, therefore, not to rely too much on intuition or luck: what is needed is a cool, composed approach. Money matters could improve slightly today if they have not already, but unfortunately, tomorrow could see a corresponding dip. Wait for the weekend before visiting your local stores or the mall. Use today’s firm influences to address something that is perhaps worthy of your concentrated time and focus. Use that refund wisely. One minor aspect could have a bit of a negative impact on you today, especially where academics and emotional matters are concerned. Let logic come into play, but not too much. Being honest and direct is a good tactic; however, if the warmth is absent, you may come across as rather cold. The sun/moon combination points to a fairly constructive day, but a couple of lesser aspects need to be borne in mind when it comes to communications. A friend or professor may behave unpredictably, but it is possible that amid the confusion is a very valuable message.
