The school year, fill ed with cycles . Waiting for students to give it meaning. And then, we came, in buslo路ads, in couples, in groups and alo ne. , Slowly, the spinnin g starts, from event to event . . .

,.
And we came, bringing life into the silent spaces, putting the unpred ictab le into orchestrated patterns the cycle of sport s, drama, mu sic and cla ss activ iti es. W e created a m eaningful human experi ence for ourselves . . .
7
The cycle gathered momentum. Events came faster, speed in g by. We were caught up in the hopes and fears, joys and frustrations, born of be in g ali ve . . .
9
The cycle continues. We are moving forward, onward, and upward to our goals. The beginning has been made. We are free . We have learn ed. Greater cycles have begun.

THE CYCLE GATHERED MOMENTUM
Three years ago, the class of '73 began high school w ith the w ish that t he next years would go quickly. Anticipating the freedom of the post-graduate years, we w ished to be rid of the drudgery, nervousness, and re sponsibilities of our life. It's funny how opinions can change in such a short time. Through out this last year, many fe lt so me fear of thi s freedom awaiting them and the sadness of leavi ng behind friends and a way of life. In the end we knew these fri ends would develop other lives in college, in a trade or business school, in new jobs, or in marriage. Fo r the most part we grew into such ambit ions through industrial arts, work experience, ho me economics, academic, o r busi ness courses. With Senio r j itters aside, it is easy to reminisce about th e three years that never seemed to end, yet have flown by so fast . Recalling o ur daily trips to the Junio r High as Sophomores for the new English and World Cultures program , memories of the new experiences offered in the Se nior High linger o n . During o ur Junior year, blue jeans and sweat shirts were worn in the band, w hile others were involved in "Anni e Get Your Gun." Som e so ld Rex and Tshirts o r sang in the chorus, w hile their friends rode back and forth to the VoTech school, o r suffered tests. As Sen iors there came powder-puff football, planning for the Buddy Rich Concert, breaking in new band uni fo rm s fresh from Germany, preparing for the Spring Mus ical "Babes in Ar.m s," o r waiting acceptance from a college. All th e anxieties and j oys are
over, but high school m emories w ill always
live on.
GR-EATER CYCLES HAVE BEGUN

Nature ripens and gains the smel I of earthiness. As-livi路ng things end their cycle of growth, we begin a new journey into a new school year. Fresh from summer that had grown pale, we rush with expectation into a different life, spurred by the bustle of the starting fall activities and the promise of new relationships. 路 This is where it begins, where patterns are established and attitudes are shaped .

Imprisoned in our cramped classrooms, we stare outside restle路ssly. Scheduling for next year and plans for graduation have begun. And we feel more and more as if school has already ended. Tests and papers and studying will not conquer us. They seem trite and faraway. Shaking them off, we rise out of the scholarly level and fling ourselves into the world of returning things.

CLASS OF '74 The burden of scaling a mountain of academic tasks did little to dampen th e Junior's spirit of innovation. They excelled in all their activities for the second year as Senior High students. The class of74 had three female officers on Student Council. Their presentation in the Tournam ent of One-Act Plays was written by a class member with outstanding ability. Twentones had many sterl in g Juniors for members. It should be recognized that a Junior was chosen as State High's first exchange student in many years to spend a full year abroad. The Junior class, with evident initiative and determination, had a fruitful ye ar in all respects in preparing themselves for the upcoming challenge s in their academic careers.

CLASS OF '75
.. ..
As times change so do people. No longer do Sophomores enter the high school as a group of traditionally meek and inexperienced youths. Each year they are more prepared to fit smooth ly into the flow of increased activity. This year' s class was no exception as evidenced by its successful Senate candy sales, and its victory over the Seniors and Juniors in the Tournament of One-Acts with "Next." Many Sophomores helped to make the spring musical, sponge sales, sports seasons and other programs successful. With one fruitful year behind them, the class is ready to face the challenges of the next two years and is quite willing to case off the "awesome" title of "the Sophomore class" to another determined group.

The Administration and Faculty has been busy preparing a considerable number of new and innovative proqrams. Many of the programs begun are still in operation. The Open Study Hall System provides the student with a choice of the library, cafeteria or student lounge during his student hall period. The Modified School Day, a program allowing approved students to take only the classes needed to meet graduating requirements with the rest of the day to pursue their individual interests, w ill start in its third year next September. Members of the faculty and administration are now researching a new program called Alternative Flexible School Year (YearRound School). With this program th e school wi ll function all year with studen.ts deciding which nine month period they will attend.

ENGLISH Operating for the second year with a new type of curriculum, The English Department provided the opportunity of choosing among forty different courses, each offered for a period of nine weeks. These courses ranged in subject matter but basically they covered the areas of language, composition, and literature. Both the large diversity of topics and the opportunity to choose from these topics four different times during the year provided the student with the opportunity of planning a curriculum that related to his personal interests. A few courses were dropped in the course of the year, some were added, and some were altered due to student interests. The English curriculum can be sa id to consist of courses the students both want and need. Mrs. Lenore Zahn

FOREIGN .LANGUAGE The Language Department continues to offer basic cou rses in Frenc h, German, Spanish, and Latin w ith concentration o n grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary in the beginning stages. As the student conti nues to a higher level, there is greater emph asis o n speaking, riead in g, and writing. The language labo ratory provides a variation in teaching techniques, allowing the student to practice hi s l istening and speaking skill s. Despite the fact that many co lleges are presenting f ewer requirements in the Language area, there has been an increase in the number of students enrolled in th ese co urses. Languages are trul y interesting and useful路.
