Hansen Museum Closed for Renovations The Dane G. Hansen Museum is now closed to the public for renovations. The Museum expects to re-open in mid-February 2021, pending schedule changes. Stay tuned to the Hansen Museum’s Facebook page to learn about our renovation progress!
The renovation is a comprehensive project encompassing every part of the Museum. Each change, large and small, has been designed to make the visitor experience more cohesive and visually pleasing. The inclusion of comprehensive signage and technology to tell the Hansen story will

I have had a number of contacts regarding lilacs that were virtually defoliated with leaves showing many spots on the leaves and browning leaves. Cercospora leaf spot appears to be the cause. This is
the shrubs look bad, loss of leaves this late in the season will not harm otherwise healthy plants. Therefore, there is no need to apply a fungicide. Also, an application this late would not help any-
way. However, cleaning up dead leaves will reduce the amount of inoculum for next year and is recommended. This disease is weather-dependent and requires wet, humid weather at certain times to flourish. Therefore, lilacs that were hit hard this year may not become infected next year. Even

Norton County Community Foundation Awards $5,000 in July Grant Cycle Norton County Community Foundation (NCCF) awarded $5,000 to Norton County nonprofit organizations and charitable projects in the July grant cycle. These funds were part of the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, which offers financial support to qualifying and deserving projects and programs in Northwest Kansas. Grant funds supported the following organization and project: Norton County Historical Society/Museum Board to replace and upgrade the museum’s original windows. The funds will be applied to matching grant funding as well as existing Norton County Museum operating budget funding to replace and upgrade the 64 windows of the Museum. The current windows are original to the 82-year old building, are single pane/energy inefficient, and allow damaging UV to enter the building, causing negative impact to UV-sensitive historical artifacts. Additionally, the aged windows require frequent and expensive upkeep. “This investment would drastically cut future upkeep costs while providing significant energy savings because the window surface area is such a large percentage of the overall building wall area,” said Mike Posson, Executive Director
of Norton City/County Economic Development and Norton County Historical Society/Museum Board Member. “The Museum building is part of our historic district and helps share the stories of past generations of Norton County,” said Tara Vance, NCCF Executive Director. “NCCF is proud to support this project to ensure the longevity of the building and its contents.” The guidelines and application for the Hansen Community Grant can be found on NCCF’s website at nortonccf.org. Applications are due the first day of every month to be considered for that month’s funding.
