ulture Shock Community Project’s 13 Nights of Halloween are back. The yearly fest finds Culture Shock teaming up with various groups — everyone from the Willamette Art Center to the Occult and Paranormal House of Investigational Research — to bring all kinds of Halloween fun. There are events both scary and nonscary, costumed and noncostumed, drag queened and nondrag queened. So it can be a little overwhelming. Happily, like snowflakes, no two 13 Nights events are quite alike ... and so we can coldly and ruthlessly categorize them for your planning purposes. Note: This flowchart is in no way implying that you should only go to one of the 13 Nights events. No, no, no! The beauty of this series is its extreme, uh, cheapness: Nearly all the events are free. Per usual, the events benefit various nonprofits, including Salem Friends of Felines (Hallo-Queen Bingo); Marion-Polk Food Share (Skatemare Before Christmas derby bout); Salem-Keizer Educational Foundation (Monster Ball Dodgeball Tournament) and Women Ending Hunger (the 5K Monster Dash Fun Run). For more information, or a full schedule, go to www.cultureshockproject.org/13nights.
