This past summer, work began at MiNU in Markham with servicing and roadwork getting underway. Now that servicing of the site is complete and all roads have been installed we now proceed to the excavation phase of the construction process.
We are excited to announce that construction of Phase 1 of On The Mark is over 70% complete! The final Phase 1 blocks, which were our fire break blocks, are now under construction.
In the meantime, our first set of homeowners are set to move in to their new homes in late 2022. We are incredibly excited to see homeowners moving in this year and wish them years of happiness to come!
Phase 1 is scheduled to be completed by June of 2023.
With servicing and roadwork now completed at High Crown Estates, we have now started excavating the foundations of our townhome blocks. Pouring the foundation footings will also have started, with framing set to follow thereafter.
This fall we commenced demolition of the existing homes on site at NAO. Once demolition is completed, we will move on to the next phase in the development of this community with servicing and roadwork starting this winter.
Keep your home in tip-top shape this winter with these helpful home maintenance tips.
◊ Monitor outdoor vents, gas meters and chimneys for ice and snow build up throughout the winter season. Consult with the appropriate service
contractor for information on how to safely address any icing problems you may uncover.
◊ After each snowfall, clear snow from around gas meters, gas appliance vents, exhaust vents and basement windows.
◊ Examine windows and doors for ice accumulation or cold air leaks. If found, make a note to repair or replace them in the spring.
◊ Examine your attic for frost accumulation and inspect the roof for ice dams or icicles.
◊ Check electrical cords, plugs and outlets for all indoor and outdoor seasonal lights to ensure fire safety. If worn, or if plugs or cords feel warm to the touch, replace them immediately.
◊ Inspect and clean or replace furnace air filters every month during the heating season. Ventilation system filters, such as heat recovery ventilator, should be checked a minimum of every two months.
◊ Review your hot water tank owner’s manual and drain off a dishpan full of water from the cleanout valve at the bottom of your hot water tank to help control sediment build up and maintain your unit’s efficiency.
◊ Clean your humidifier two to three times during the heating season.
◊ Vacuum your bathroom fan grille.
◊ Use a vacuum to clean all fire and smoke detectors as built up dust and spider webs can prevent them from functioning properly.
◊ Inspect the basement floor drain to ensure the trap contains water; refill with water if necessary.
◊ Monitor your home for excessive moisture levels — for example, condensation on your windows, which can cause significant damage over time and pose serious health problems — and take corrective action if necessary.
◊ Inspect all faucets for signs of dripping and change washers as needed. Faucets requiring frequent replacement of washers may be in need of repair.
◊ Inspect infrequently used faucets, such as a laundry tub or spare bathroom sink, tub or shower stall, and run some water briefly to keep water in the trap.
◊ Clean drains in dishwasher, sinks, bathtubs and shower stalls.
◊ Test plumbing shutoff valves to ensure they are working and to prevent them from seizing up.
◊ Inspect pressure gauge on all fire extinguishers. Recharge or replace if necessary.
◊ Check fire escape routes, door and window locks and hardware, and lighting around the outside of your home.
Vitamin D has been known to help the body retain calcium and phosphorus (both vital to building bone) as well as maintaining a strong immune system. Our bodies gain vitamin D primarily through exposure to the sun, but during the winter months, as the days getting shorter it is essential to supplement our vitamin D intake to promote bone and immune system health. Here are some vitamin D enriched foods that you can add to your diet to keep your vitamin D levels up:
This source of vitamin D, omega acid, and vitamin B-12 helps the body to reduce inflammation, maintain skin elasticity, and promote heart health.
In addition to vitamin D in egg yolks they are the trusted source of lutein and zeaxanthin that reduce the risk of cataracts in the elderly.
Oranges are not only a great source of vitamin C but are also rich in vitamin D and Calcium.
With over 10,000 species of mushrooms to choose from, the most vitamin D-rich types include shiitake, white button/cremini/portobello, oyster, and porcini mushrooms. Rich in antioxidants and fiber, mushrooms are winter dietary staples.
For centuries during winter months, cod liver oil was used as a dietary supplement to ensure proper vitamin D absorption when the sun was scarce. Derived from Atlantic cod, the oil is purified and encapsulated to promote bone health and reduce inflammation in the body.
Fortified milk and milk products with added nutrients, are high in calcium and loaded with phosphorus and potassium.
canned tuna is one of the best sources of vitamin D. High in healthy omega fatty acids and iron, canned tuna is an underrated superfood.
Being cooped up indoors during the winter isn’t just bad for your health, but your dog’s as well! Lack of mental stimulation and exercise in the winter can affect a pet’s health just as it does our own. See how you can enrich your dog’s day with these three simple indoor activities.
Fill a kiddie pool with ball plastic BPA free plastic balls covered with kibble and watch your furry friend spend up to 60 minutes digging for their food! If you have more than a dog, make sure they don’t have any food aggression issues before attempting!
and such to get them jumping, climbing, crawling and darting around the home. This is also a great way to train your dog to follow your commands. Get the whole family involved and switch up the course each time with new challenges and paths!
Technology has made our life much easier. Wickedbone Smart Bone is a smart toy for your dog. Just download the app on your phone and make your dog run around your home and get him/ her moving by controlling the bone with your phone.
These toys and games are designed to hide treats in. Using different knobs, flaps, and compartments at varying levels of difficulty, these games help stimulate your pet’s mind and can provide hours of indoor fun. Check out some great puzzle games.
Whether you’re a hockey fan or just love being able to lace them up for some pleasure skating, there’s nothing better than simply stepping out onto your very own backyard skating rink. Here’s a quick step by step to get you on the ice this winter!
STEP 1.
To guide rainwater away, most of the yards have a little slope, so you need to find the most level spot in your yard. Find a location where the slope is no more than a few inches (less than 6 inches is recommended by manufacturers).
STEP 2.
Next, build the border around the rink area using 2”x10”x10” treated boards. Secure them in place with 5” metal angle brackets on the corners. For added support, hammer some wooden stakes into the ground around the perimeter of the frame. If you want to purchase a large tarp to use as the base of your rink, skip ahead to step 5.
STEP 3. Create a 1–2-inch base of packed snow to act as a barrier between the grass and the ice. Spread the snow over the rink area, and rake it into a smooth layer, 1 to 2 inches thick.
STEP 4. Spray your snow base lightly with water several times; letting it to freeze after each application. Proceed to step 6.
STEP 5. Place your tarp inside the rink. Your tarp should be large enough to hang over the edge of your frame.
STEP 6. At this time your rink ink can be flooded. Let it freeze for 2-3 consecutive days, ensuring that the temperature doesn’t go above freezing. If you used a tarp, you can staple the tarp to the top of the frame and trim off any excess.
STEP 7. To maintain the chipped racked ice, use the water-snow slush mix as a filler to fill the holes and cracks, then allow it to freeze and flood the rink again.
TIP – Hang some outdoor lights for a more festive look and extend your skating time after sunset!

The cold winter weather can wreak havoc on your garden. Here are some steps you can take to keep your garden whole and hearty come the springtime.
Frost-tender plants in containers should be brought inside during cold weather months. Dig up tender bulbs and store them in a cool dry place.
Watering plants thoroughly before a freeze helps prevent desiccation and adds insulating water to the soil and plant cells.
Cover tender plants overnight with an inverted bucket or flowerpot, or with a layer of mulch. Be sure to uncover them in the morning when the temperature rises above freezing.
Larger plants can be covered with fabric, old bedsheets, burlap, or commercial frost cloths (avoid using plastic). For best results, drape the cover over a frame to keep it from touching the foliage. Fabric covers help trap heat from the soil, so make sure your cover drapes to the ground. Uncover them in the morning when the temperature rises above freezing.
Hardy perennials, trees, and shrubs may recover from a late spring freeze, even if visibly damaged. Their blooms and fruit may be lost for the year, but once they begin actively growing, you’ll be able to determine and remove any permanent damage to stems and branches. Frost-tender plants will not recover at all, so avoid planting them until you’re confident that extreme cold weather has passed.
Choose plants that are hardy for our climate, or plant tender plants in containers that can be brought indoors. Avoid applying fertilizer until after the last frost, to prevent a flush of tender growth that can be damaged by the cold.

Your dream is our command.
Have you been feeling a little drained, daydreaming of something warmer to come your way? Do you need something to help create a spark on grey days? Well… Look no further than Benjamin Moore’s 2023 Colour of the Year: RASPBERRY BLUSH, 2008-30.
“There is a lot of potential for this colour and its vibrant effect on your home” says Nadia Rossini, Décor Specialist at StateView Homes.
Nadia describes Raspberry Blush as “a saturated reddish orange with tones of coral and pink— very warm, vivacious, and bold”. When asked about this year’s selection Nadia said she wasn’t surprised that a colour like this was chosen. “I can already see the trends moving toward bold colours again”. She isn’t alone in that assessment as Andrea Magno, Colour Marketing & Development Director at Benjamin Moore states, “People are ready to bring colour
back into the home, taking a step outside their colour comfort zones”.
For this expressive colour if you prefer warm tones and want to stay away from the cooler side of the colour spectrum, certain combinations will certainly make you feel more comfortable. Nadia recommends “pairing Raspberry Blush with neutral tones like white heron (OC-57) or gray owl (OC-52), and accenting it with something dark, like onyx (2133-10)”.
However, because of how bold Raspberry Blush really is, chances are you may not be using it for an entire room. So Nadia suggests using it on an accent wall, a powder room or even a dining room if you see fit! Accessorizing with its touch of brightness will surely bring joy, confidence and creativity to your life.
So for 2023, embrace Raspberry Blush’s unapologetic boldness, try something new, add some colour and make a statement in your home!
This past September, StateView Homes held our 1st Annual StateView Homes Golf Tournament, raising over $170,000 to support research and treatment of Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
144 golfers took to the links at Eagles Nest Golf Club in Maple, ON. “We are grateful to those who joined us for some fun on the links while helping support an extremely worthy cause,” said Julian Uccello, StateView’s Sales and Marketing Specialist. Uccello, a former professional soccer player with European credentials was diagnosed with MS in 2011. “When the symptoms and diagnosis ended my soccer career, I felt lost. Through the
support of family and friends, and the ongoing outpouring of support from the building/construction industry, I am moving forward with confidence. I hold great hope that a cure will one day be found.”
StateView Homes is known for crafting distinctive niche new home communities and for helping the greater community. With that in mind, the company joined Uccello in his mission to create awareness about and fund research for MS.
Over the three years before the tournament, StateView had raised over $100,000 in support of Mission Stadiums for Multiple Sclerosis (MS4MS), a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of the disease and funding research.

StateView Homes has a proud tradition of supporting vital community charities and organizations to help fund invaluable programs and initiatives.
Since being founded in 2010, StateView Homes has always believed in giving back to the communities we build in. Whether it is through supporting nearly 200 kids’ soccer teams across York Region, the Shining Through Centre for kids
with autism, or our ongoing multiyear partnership with the Hospital for SickKids, StateView is committed to helping who we can, when we can. We are proud to announce that our ongoing dedication to this endeavour has led to the creation
of the Live Inspired Organization –whose sole mission is dedicated to fulfilling the vision of helping improve the lives of families in the communities that we build in.
As part of our commitment, for every StateView home sold the Live Inspired Organization will make a $1,000 donation on behalf of those new homeowners to their charity of choice from the organizations below.
LIVE INSPIRED. PLAY INSPIRED.
StateView’s Live Inspired Play Inspired program is focused on community involvement. This includes sponsoring local kids’ sports teams to ensure as many kids have the opportunity to play as possible, along with various community events that help bring people and communities together.
StateView Homes has been a steadfast supporter of SickKids Hospital for several years, participating in their annual Get Loud, Bubble Hockey and Fantasy Hockey events and donating over $800,000 to support their growing needs. We recently reconfirmed our dedication to HSC by committing an additional $1.5M over the next 5 years.
At StateView Homes, we have first-hand experience with how MS can affect people’s lives. This is why we have partnered with Mission Stadiums for Multiple Sclerosis (MS4MS) to raise over $100,000 to fund research for a cure at the John Hopkins MS Centre to hopefully provide a brighter future for those who continue to struggle with this affliction.
The entire StateView Homes team was thrilled to be a part of SickKids’ annual GetLoud campaign again this year.
We saw so much activity on our donation match day and are excited to share that the GetLoud community rallied together and maxed out on StateView Homes’ $126,000 match, raising $126,924. The SickKids team and StateView team were thrilled with these results, and we hope you are too!
Overall, the GetLoud campaign raised over $1.3 million, which will help support the new hospital. In addition to our Match Day donation, StateView was also proud to be one of the Premier Sponsors of the event at Downsview Park where we sponsored the on route Bubbles of Joy station where participants could walk through hundreds of bubbles in the air, and enjoy a professional bubble artist performing, and the Kids’ Fun Zone at the Festival where kids could enjoy a variety of creative activities such as a tie-dye t-shirt station, various crafts and slime-making!
On November 10th, StateView Homes was honoured to be a major sponsor of JOURNEY - SickKids’ gala event celebrating 50 years of philanthropic and volunteer impact.
The event, hosted by Andria Case featured messages from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Toronto Maple Leaf’s forward Auston Matthews, numerous performers including Chantal Kreviazuk and an emotionally powerful video by award winning director Barry Avrich.
The StateView Homes’ Vision – to craft distinctive niche communities that answer to each homeowner’s individuality, design preferences and lifestyle aspirations.
