SEPTEMBER 2024
Mylen Leah Solar Farm
• Located between the villages of Seaton Ross, Melbourne, Laytham, Ellerton, East Cottingwith and Foggathorpe in the East Riding of Yorkshire
• Expected to have a capacity of approximately 500MW
• Export to the National Grid, via underground cables, to Thornton Substation
• Current footprint is approximately 1,200 hectares
• Help contribute to the
- ambitious UK target of 70,000MW (70GW) of solar capacity by 2035, and
- commitment to reach Net Zero by 2050
• As the proposals is greater than 50MW it will follow the Nationally Significant
Infrastructure Project (NSIP) route through planning
Mylen Leah Indicative Concept Masterplan (CMP)
The indicative CMP will change as we complete our studies & receive feedback from consultees & the local community.
We are at the early stage of design
• Feedback received via consultation and ongoing studies will continue to inform our proposals
• Not all the land will be used for solar generation
• Initial studies provided a high-level understanding of areas suitable for:
- Solar energy generation
- Biodiversity and landscape enhancements
• We will deliver a biodiversity net gain of at least 10% through:
- biodiversity enhancements and habitat management measures
- providing dedicated areas for landscaping and screening
Consulting early
• The priority now is to gather local community representatives’ feedback
• We will hold several co-design workshops in November with local community representatives. This is part of our non-statutory consultation.
• These interactive sessions will help us:
- explain the initial design
- listen to local representatives’ feedback to understand the most important issues and considerations locally
• The feedback will help us shape the design
• Formal Statutory Consultation is expected to take place in summer 2025
• All members of the community will have the opportunity to provide their views
