MISSION
ABOUT US Women's ALI is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Our three-point mission is at the heart of all we do: educate, empower, and engage everyone who comes into contact with our organization. With education initiatives reaching into the public school system and universities nationwide, our Summer Leadership Intensive is the current focal point of our efforts to educate the next generation. Whether as a dedicated volunteer, a donor supporting future leaders of the arts, or a program participant, we believe you cannot be a part of our vision without being uplifted. Our passion is fueled both by our experience and our connection as sisters. We host educational events that empower female artists to become community leaders by equipping them with both leadership skills and business acumen. Every Women’s ALI event is driven by our three main goals: educate, empower, and engage.
EDUCATE
EMPOWER
ENGAGE
With the belief that education plays an important first step to lasting change, every year, Women’s ALI hosts a Summer Leadership Intensive for young women from all fields of the fine arts, ages 18-24. Participants gain both business acumen and leadership skills through a series of keynote speakers, networking and team building activities, workshops, and round table discussions. Curriculum will include topics such as grant writing, effective leadership styles, communication skills, Microsoft Office proficiency, and dealing with harassment in the workplace.
We aim to empower artists with the business and leadership skills they will need no matter what path their future takes and far beyond their participation in our programs. The Mentor Alliance program pairs young women with a relevant professional for the course of the Intensive, offering the chance for valuable insight and perspective while forming professional networking relationships. Mentors will be available to alumni on a quarterly basis following their participation in the Summer Leadership Intensive, continuing to serve as a resource to our alumni. Networking events and training will be held for our Mentor Alliance as well, ensuring an empowering experience for all involved!
At Women’s ALI, we are dedicated to community involvement at every level. Our alumni scholarship and grant program allows our Summer Leadership Intensive participants to give back to the arts industry and their own communities. Engaging in community partnerships and dialogue for change is part of who we are, and we recognize it’s people whose passions and hard work make a lasting difference. Join with us as we cultivate relationships with businesses and individuals within our community...engage for change!
GUIDELINES
WELCOME TO THE 2020 VIRTUAL SUMMER LEADERSHIP INTENSIVE! We are excited to “meet” you virtually and look forward to the day we can meet safely in person. Due to the unique virtual component of this Intensive, we have created a set of technology guidelines to ensure that this is a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone! We will be using the Zoom platform for the duration of the Intensive. You can set up a free account at www.zoom.us. Mentor meetings should also take place via videoconferencing platform—you can determine what is best for you and your mentor, though Zoom is a simple solution. FaceTime, gotomeeting, and Skype are all alternatives!
BELOW ARE 10 GUIDELINES FOR A SUCCESSFUL ALI EXPERIENCE: 1 .
O A TEST RUN OF YOUR TECHNOLOGY. We’d hate for you to miss D anything, so be sure your Zoom app is downloaded and updated and that your internet connection is stable.
2. J OIN EACH SESSION A FEW MINUTES EARLY SO THAT YOU ARE READY AS THE SESSION BEGINS.
3. V IDEO SHOULD ALWAYS BE ON, UNLESS OTHERWISE DIRECTED.
We’re doing our best to recreate an in-person experience and want to connect with YOU!
4. C ONSIDER YOUR ENVIRONMENT. Try and find a quiet space, free of
distractions. With video on, you will also want to consider your background. Now might not be the moment to show us your unfolded laundry, so adding a background blur or a virtual background may be the solution! Please have this set up prior to meeting.
5. R EMEMBER, YOU ARE REPRESENTING YOURSELF AND YOUR
BRAND TO BOTH YOUR COLLEAGUES AND PRESENTERS. While you certainly do not need to wear a suit, do your best to present the professional you would like others to see.
6. P LEASE BE SURE TO MUTE YOURSELF WHEN NOT SPEAKING! 7. B E CONSIDERATE. Be considerate of our talented presenters and refrain
from texting, emailing, browsing the internet, eating, or otherwise disengaged behavior.
8. C OME WITH QUESTIONS! Many of our sessions will have a Q&A
component. Please save questions for designated times, unless otherwise instructed. We’ll provide specifics for how questions will be handled at each session.
9. M AKE EYE CONTACT! In this virtual version, that means look into the
lens. No need to be staring anyone down, but do try and find meaningful engagement and connection.
10. E NJOY! This is an Intensive and we call it that for a reason, but we hope you enjoy this learning process and the connections you are able to make with others.
