Are you interested in the Creative Industries? ‘Ask Me Anything’ Networking Event On Tuesday, 27th November, 4.30-7.00PM at Engine Shed, Bristol Boomsatsuma has organised a brilliantly fun speed networking event offering 1418 year olds unique career insights from the creative industries, 'Ask Me Anything' is hosted by boomsatsuma and Bristol WORKS as part of Bristol's BBC Digital Cities Week 2018. ‘Ask Me Anything’ hosted by boomsatsuma, in collaboration with Bristol WORKS, will offer young people, aged 14-18, the opportunity to meet, network with and ask questions to a wide variety of professionals in the creative sector. Set up as a speed networking event, young people will meet a range of creatives in a range of professional roles, each offering unique insights into their fields. With representatives from games, music, film and TV production and more, the event will give budding young creatives the chance to find out what skills they need to access similar careers and build their network of contacts at the same time! Formal Work Experience Programme aimed at Year 10-Year 12 students during two weeks in July. Applications now open. Nuffield Research Placements For Yr 12 STEM students (Summer holiday placement 2019) A fantastic opportunity to work alongside a researcher in either a university or an industry setting. The aim of the scheme is to give students a hands-on experience of research in action, providing them with information about what a career in STEM might be like. What will I be doing? Students will carry out their own mini research project, write up a scientific report and design a poster about their findings which they present at the Celebration Event after the end of the placements. Students are supported to develop the skills needed for these activities (academic writing, communication, independent and team working and the soft skills around work such as time management and organisation) by their project mentor and by the regional Nuffield Research Placements Coordinator and team. When is it? For 4-6 weeks full time over the school/college summer holidays. Exact dates and location will depend on your placement. What’s in it for me? Babbasa are hosting a number of sessions next month for young people which involve industry professionals coming in to talk about their experiences and opportunities in a specific sector. The sessions are as follows: 13th November 2018, 6.00-7.30PM: Lettus Grow- Run by start up organisation Lettus Grow. They're all about sustainability and using science to create sustainable technologies. They have created a vertical growing system where they can grow crops in doors without soil. Lettus Group are also offering work placements. This would be great for young people looking to set up their own business as they are a start up. 28th November 2018, 6.00-7.30PM: The Avon and Somerset Police are coming in to talk about the different roles in the police. This includes roles as officers, but also detectives, animal handlers (there may be a dog present (TBC) forensics etc. 11th December 2018, 6.00-7.30PM: Proctor and Stevenson, marketing company, will be talking about marketing and roles for designers and copy writers amongst other things VENUE: Redbrick House, 6 York Court, Wilder Street, near Stokes Croft (just turn up) This is a great opportunity for young people who are interested in these sectors and also for young people who aren’t sure about what they want to do and are looking to find out more.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES
At hop, skip and jump we provide flexible and wrap around care for children and young adults with additional needs. Our Bristol centre has a large area to explore with a wide range of areas including a dark sensory room, a white sensory room, soft play / ball pit area, a music room, a games room and an art room. We also have a fully working kitchen and a massive outdoor space equipped with climbing frames, swings, slides for all ages and abilities and a lovely sensory area. We provide a range of different sessions throughout the year which include: Respite sessions: These sessions run every Saturday and during the school holidays (except Tuesday and Thursday mornings), for children and young adults with additional needs and challenging behaviours. Stay and play sessions: These sessions run every Saturday and during the school holidays (except Tuesday and Thursday mornings) where the service user can come with either their families or carers to use the centre independently. The service user is in full care of their family or carer. After school club sessions: These sessions are currently run on Wednesday and Friday evenings 3:30- 6:00, offering children and young adults with additional needs and challenging behaviour a safe environment to build social skills and engage in fun activities. The Voluntary Services team manages volunteering in the following hospitals: Bristol Eye Hospital South Bristol Community Hospital Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre Bristol Heart Institute Bristol Royal Infirmary St Michael’s Hospital University of Bristol Dental Hospital Central Health Clinic Bristol Royal Hospital for Children Our 30 hours+ self-development programme supports and challenges new volunteers aged 16 – 25 and rewards them with the chance to request a reference from the team and an invitation to celebrate your success!

We make promises we can keep and keep our promises If our assessors feel you’re ready to volunteer with us…We’ll invite you to progress to training and induction, which will take up a few hours of your time and prepare you for your volunteering role in our Trust. You’ll meet other new volunteers and Trust staff. We hope you’ll learn a few things you didn’t know before and get to know the Voluntary Services team a little better. We need to check your identity, references, and DBS clearance for some roles. Our patients, staff and visitors deserve to know we’re all checked out.
