JOBS AND APPRENTICESHIPS
Energy and Utillity Careers
Each week we will be highlighting a key career—and how to achieve it. This week’s Success at School Spotlight is on Energy and Utility careers. More than one in 50 people work in the energy industry, here are just some of the jobs available: Scientists: Geoscientists, geologists and chemists search for the perfect places to extract natural resources and turn them into energy.
Mudloggers: This unusual-sounding bunch help scientists collect and analyse soil, rock and liquids thrown up by drilling to find oil or gas.
Engineers: Engineers work out how to extract resources to make energy, from fossil fuels like coal, gas and oil, to renewables such as wind, solar and tidal or wave energy. Some carry out the hands-on work required to get the energy, and others look after utilities such as plumbing and wiring.
Skilled workers: There are also lots of jobs for skilled workers including welders, pipelayers and scaffolders.
Diving: A lot of the hunt for resources goes on underground or underwater so commercial diving jobs are also common.
Hydrologists: Identify, create and look after water sources, to ensure we can all access it safely from our taps at home and that it doesn’t run out.
Electricians: Wire up our homes, factories and businesses to make sure we get electricity to all of the places we need, and safely too.
Plumbers: Do the same job with water, gas and sewage pipes and are there to fix boilers, blockages and leaks when things go wrong.
Sales and marketing: These teams come up with new ways to attract customers to choose a utility provider and can plan big national campaigns.
Administration/management: There are also lots of jobs available in HR, finance, legal, project management and health & safety.

Speakers for School—Click here Speakers for Schools now works with almost 150 prestigious employers to offer amazing insight days and work experience across the UK. Although we planned to launch VWEX this summer, in response to Covid-19 crisis, WE HAVE DECIDED TO LAUNCH THIS PROGRAMME NOW.

3Y2’s Applied for University
We understand that many of you may be concerned about accepting your university offers. Please see below a summary of the latest Government updates: The Government has asked universities and colleges in England to hold back from making unconditional offers or amending existing offers to students for up to two weeks. Government's announcement
UCAS are extending May’s decision and reply deadlines for undergraduate applications by two weeks. UCAS will email affected applicants to let them know, and share new dates once they’ve been confirmed. For your reference, here’s a copy of what they are sending. This extension will give you the extra time you need to fully consider any decisions and offers, and ensure fairness in admissions is maintained. It also gives more time for further information to be shared on the awarding of grades for examinations and assessments which have been cancelled. When results are confirmed, UCAS expect to run a clearing process, giving applicants the flexibility to make choices throughout the remainder of the cycle. As the Coronavirus situation develops, please keep a close eye on updates through email, ucas.com, and across UCAS social media channels. If you have questions about your particular circumstances please email ceiag@stbrn.ac.uk and we will do our best to advise you given the information that we have. You may also wish to contact the admissions departments of your chosen university. Please click here for the latest government advice about exams and grades.
