GLOBAL STUDIES (continued)
“There are so many connections you make along the way with friends, professors, and mentors. It was my first experience of getting out of the Midwest and meeting people from almost everywhere. You have to have a small sense of determination to go abroad. Determination in yourself to experience change.”
– MC Nienow ’26, (studied in Kyoto, Japan) Marketing and Business Administration
EXPLORE THE WORLD AND DEVELOP AS A LEADER
Advising Support
From start to depart, our Global Studies advisors will assist you every step of the way - from exploring your options, to understanding program finances and answering all of your questions in between.
Passport Program
Each year, St. Kate’s funds 25 first-time adult passports for current students. Awards are based on financial need (as assessed by St. Kate’s Office of Financial Aid) and priority will be given to students identifying with a group historically underrepresented in study abroad.
Share Your Experience
When you return, submit your best photos to the annual Global Studies photo contest! In addition to the photo contest, there are a multitude of ways to share your Global Studies experience with the St. Kate’s community, including serving as a Peer Advisor.
MYTHS AND FACTS
MYTH: I can’t afford to study abroad.
FACT: Your St. Kate’s financial aid can be applied to Global Studies, and many programs offer additional scholarship opportunities. Your Global Studies advisor can help you identify and apply for outside scholarships and grants.
MYTH: I won’t be able to speak the language.
FACT: All St. Kate’s faculty-led programs and the majority of our partner programs are taught in English. Global Studies always encourages students to pursue language study, and supports opportunities to study a wide variety of languages at many levels, from beginner through advanced.
MYTH: It’s too hard to study abroad with my major.
FACT: While it’s definitely easier to study abroad with some majors more than others, all St. Kate’s students can apply Global Studies courses to their general education and core requirements. International internships and research projects are also options. Early planning is key, so be sure to contact Global Studies in your first year at St. Kate’s to begin the planning process.
