ART
Do you like expressing yourself creatively?
Are you drawn to stories and storytelling?
Are you interested in exploring how creative works impact the world around us?
The art program at St. Catherine University is guided by inquiry, imagination, and action, with equity at the center. You will study contemporary issues in art and art production alongside career development and professional practice. You will explore your aspirations by critically examining your own creative and scholarly work and developing concrete skills applicable to a variety of professions. Choose classes from five concentration areas including graphic design, photography, painting and drawing, ceramics, and art history. You will work with our faculty of professional/practicing artists and meet local and national arts professionals, hone your writing and critical thinking skills, and better understand the role of art and artists in addressing the challenges of our time.
YOU WILL LEARN TO:
• Build a creative life as an artist and creative scholar — graphic designer, photographer, ceramicist, illustrator, painter, curator – by working with practicing artists and scholars
• Apply, analyze, and interpret the language of visual arts
• Understand the role of art and artists in leading the conversation for social change with an emphasis on equity and inclusion
• Use interdisciplinary and collaborative skills

“The St. Kate’s Art and Art History Department not only taught me how to create certain art forms, but how to combine all my passions within my art. I now know that art can directly and positively impact other people’s lives and be used as a powerful tool for activism. I feel like the department’s focus on social justice truly made this possible.”
– Solveigh Johnson ’21
