About the Program
The online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN): Nurse Educator program at St. Catherine University is for bachelor’s or master’s-prepared registered nurses (RNs) who are ready to help prepare the next generation of healthcare providers.
Nurse educators teach in universities; conduct staff trainings on new policies, products and pharmaceuticals; create simulation labs for nursing students; and educate patients. They combine their nursing knowledge with a passion for inspiring others to learn.
St. Kate’s has been on the forefront of nursing education since 1905. Our nurses are leaders who think holistically and equitably about the needs and wishes of patients, families and communities. In our program you will:

Our Curriculum
The 33-credit Nurse Educator program can be completed in just under two years; an accelerated one-year plan of study is also available Courses meet year-round, with classes offered primarily in an asynchronous learning format; some courses will include occasional synchronous meeting times
Evidence-based courses focus on principles of the education process, assessment of learning styles, needs and characteristics of diverse learners, and innovative instructional techniques and evaluation strategies. You'll have the foundational knowledge to design dynamic learning experiences that are flexible, relevant and responsive to the emerging trends in nursing, health care and society in diverse practice environments.
Our faculty are experts in the field, with relevant work experiences and connections across the healthcare and education industries. They’ll challenge, support, and mentor you as you move through your graduate program and prepare for career success.
Tuition and Fees
The 2024–25 tuition rate for the MSN: Nurse Educator option is $760 per credit. Additional costs include fees for student services and technology ($330 per term) and books (prices vary by course).
How to Apply
Application deadlines: May 1 (summer), June 1 (fall), November 1 (spring). Applications received after the deadline will be considered on a space-available basis
To be eligible for admission, applicants must have:
• A bachelor’s or graduate degree from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized, regional accrediting association.
o The baccalaureate nursing program (i.e. initial major or upper-division, postbaccalaureate second major) or comparable master’s-level program in which the nursing degree was awarded must be accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
• A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and a grade of B- or higher in every nursing course.
• A current unencumbered nursing license
The MSN: Nurse Educator application requires the following materials:
• Admission essay
• Current résumé
• Two recommendations
• Transcripts from degree-granting institutions
• Official scores from TOEFL or IELTS (if native language is not English)
• Credential evaluation from World Education Services (if college/university coursework was completed outside the U.S.)
