INSPIRED
MY CAREER AMBITIONS
As a graduate of St. Catherine University myself, I want you to know that the investment you make in your daughter’s education is something I take very seriously, and all of us—faculty, staff, and student advisors—will work diligently to make sure her time here is caring, challenging, and transformational. I still remember the day I arrived on campus as a student. As I walked through the gates, I had never seen anything so beautiful. I loved it! St. Kate’s inspired my career ambitions. I never knew a woman doctor, a woman attorney, or a woman engineer while I was growing up in Dickinson, North Dakota. But when I came to St. Kate’s, my teachers were, by and large, women; the people running the place were women; and I thought, “Wow.” That’s when the lights turned on. Thankfully, women’s colleges keep turning up those lights so students see what’s possible. Our liberal arts program, for example, is particularly suited for today’s challenging times, with smaller class sizes and a focus on sharpening students’ critical thinking skills. And our multi-year Compass program is designed to arm each graduate with an impressive resume of experiences when she’s ready to move on, not just a diploma. My personal history at St. Kate’s drives my commitment to create the same positive, visceral experience for your daughter—to inspire her to dream big and to be the best she can possibly be—because she’s smart, she’s talented, and she’s to be taken seriously. Sincerely, ReBecca “Becky” Koenig Roloff ’76 President, St. Catherine University
WHY LIBERAL ARTS?
BECAUSE TODAY’S BIG ISSUES REQUIRE EQUALLY BIG THINKERS.
A liberal arts education is especially relevant today. It prepares students with a broad knowledge base to expand their reasoning. While in-depth study happens in areas specific to a student’s major, core classes expose students to a wider world and an understanding of broader issues that are important for any field or career path. St. Kate’s offers smaller, more intimate learning environments, where one-on-one interaction between faculty and students— and close collaboration among students themselves—more easily encourages robust discourse. It is here students learn to understand and sharpen essential critical thinking and communication skills.

WANT YOUR DAUGHTER TO BE SUCCESSFUL?
SURROUND HER WITH OUTSTANDING EXAMPLES. With an 83% women-led faculty, our students are surrounded by capable, knowledgeable women. Students are encouraged to not just find their voice here, but to use it boldly and expressively. Perhaps most of all, the St. Kate’s community normalizes women leaders, which means our graduates leave fully ready to be leaders and changemakers.
OUR GRADUATES HAVE THEIR FUTURE AHEAD OF THEM. AND A STRONG NETWORK BEHIND THEM. Recent studies confirm that ‘women’s college’ translates to ‘women empowerment’. Eighty-one percent of women’s college graduates report their college was ‘extremely’ or ‘very effective’ in preparing them for their first job. This compares to 61% who attended public institutions.* Perhaps it’s because the women’s college network is truly a tie that binds. Women’s college alumnae are a powerful, forward-moving force that moves arm-in-arm. When a women’s college graduate needs a connection, no matter where they attended, they will find a ready network. Women’s college graduates include the likes of Stacy Adams, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Benazir Bhutto, Jhumpa Lahiri, and Diane Sawyer. Not to mention local notable St. Kate’s alumnae Anne McKeig, Minnesota Supreme Court Justice; U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum; retired Mayo Clinic chief nursing officer, Pamela Johnson; and Minnesota business and non-profit leader Pamela Wheelock, to name a few. *Forbes, 2021.
