WHAT KINDS OF JOBS CAN I GET? Jobs are available in a variety of areas both off and on campus. Career Development posts all on-campus jobs/ internships at KatieCareer by Handshake, its online job database. Students are encouraged to use Career Development early and often to locate employment, resume/cover letter assistance, interview tips, salary negotiation, and so much more. On-campus jobs include admission ambassador, dining, tutoring, IT, events, and more. HOW DO I APPLY FOR ON-CAMPUS JOBS? Student jobs are listed on KatieCareer by Handshake. You will be notified by email when your Handshake account has been activated by late summer or during the first week of classes. Once your Handshake account is up and running, you can apply for positions on campus. A resume, and at times, a cover letter will be required. Sample resumes and cover letters can be found at katiecareervc.stkate.edu. Due to limited numbers of on-campus opportunities, we cannot guarantee positions for all students. Campus jobs do not begin until the first week of school.
Student workers at St. Kate’s earn
$3,000+ per year, working 7 hours/week.
HOW MUCH CAN I EARN DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR? The amount you earn depends on how much you work. We strongly suggest not working over 20 hours per week. Working 10-15 hours per week will help you increase your income without affecting academic performance. The chart below will help you determine how much you’ll need to work throughout the school year to meet your earning goals, whether it’s to help pay down your student account or help pay daily expenses. Keep in mind you can supplement your earnings by continuing to work during January term and over the summer. WHAT CAN I EXPECT MY HOURLY WAGE TO BE? How much you earn working off campus will depend on your employer. On average, wages for off-campus jobs in the Highland Park neighborhood can range from $12 per hour to $14 per hour for skilled positions. On-campus jobs typically start at $15.57 per hour. 30-WEEK ACADEMIC YEAR YIELDS THE FOLLOWING: WORK HOURS PER WEEK
TOTAL PER ACADEMIC YEAR
8 10 12
$3,736 $4,671 $5,605
$15.57 PER HOUR
St.Kate’s Office of Financial Aid
WHAT IS ‘PRIORITY PLACEMENT’? All students are welcome to apply for on-campus jobs; however, applicants who have been offered federal or state work-study funding as part of their financial aid will receive priority consideration. Students without federal or state work-study can still receive an on-campus position. All final hiring decisions are based on experience, education, skills, and abilities. If all factors are equal, the federal or state work-study student would receive consideration first. HOW DO I APPLY FOR JOBS ONCE SCHOOL STARTS? Students interested in employment can use the many job search resources from Career Development. Career specialists are available to meet with students virtually or in person to help explore our many resources and individualized career counseling. Beginning the first week of classes, students should use the University’s online job database, KatieCareer by Handshake at katiecareervc.stkate.edu to find work.
