American Theatre Festival brings history to the SSB auditorium stage Oct. 15-19 In an effort to keep the national heritage alive, the SCC English, History and Theater departments will present the annual American Theatre Festival – two performances focusing on history, culture and literary topics. Performances will be held in the auditorium in the Daniel J. Conoyer Social Science Building Oct. 15-19. The Belle of Amherst delicately explores the life of America’s greatest woman poet, Emily Dickinson, at various stages in her experience from the age of 15, when she was full of hope and success, until shortly before her death. There is one available role – Emily Dickenson. The play was written by

Sandra Fenichel Ashero and will be directed by Hal Berry, professor emeritus in history and cinema. A Women Called Truth chronicles the life of Sojourner Truth, famous abolitionist and women’s rights advocate. There are five available acting roles – three women and two men – along with female chorus members, female and male dancers and one harmonica player. The play was written by William Luce and is directed by Tracy Bono, adjunct faculty in theater. For more information about American Theatre Festival, visit stchas.edu/ americantheatrefest.
