Cancellation Policy: Because St. Charles Community College Continuing Education (noncredit) classes are self-supporting, the decision to run a class is based on the number of people enrolled. The college reserves the right to cancel if sufficient enrollment is not achieved.
Registrations need to be received at least one week prior to the start of class to be considered in the determination of whether to cancel the class. An attempt will be made to notify registrants by phone or mail if a class is cancelled. Full refunds will be issued for classes cancelled by the college.

Cancellation Policy A $25 cancellation fee will be assessed if you cancel less than 14 days prior to the start of camp.
Week of June 6 Raging Reaction Lab/Grossology (Ages 7-12) Do you love to gross people out? In this ghastly camp, you will have burping contests, watch something decompose, make fake vomit, blisters and scabs. Not gross enough? Campers will also dissect owl pellets, make slime and learn about the physiology of snot. There will be experiments with Mentos and Coke, and we’ll make pop and bottle rockets and self-inflating balloons. 6/6-6/10 M-F

Computer Game Design (Middle School) Don’t just play the game – make it! Get an introduction into the awesome world of video game creation. Design your own arcade games, platform games, adventures and screensavers. Select your heroes and monsters. At the end of the academy you will be able to save your game to play on your computer at home. Basic programming skills will be introduced. 6/6-6/10 M-F

Geocaching – The Search for Treasure! (Ages 7-12) Welcome to the ‘high-tech’ treasure hunt. Join us for one of the fastest growing outdoor activities. Using handheld GPS units, you will hike SCC for buried caches. Be the first group to master reading a map and coordinates, learn the importance of maintaining your logbook and use Internet sites to update data that can be used by other hunters. After this week, you will be able to direct your own family on a similar adventure. Bring your GPS to camp if you have one. 6/6-6/10 M-F

Cupcake Wars (Ages 7-9) Do you love to make cupcakes and watch Cupcake Wars on the Food Network? In this amazing camp, you can let your imagination and creativity run wild as you discover how to use icing, flavorings, candy clay, gumpaste, decorations and candies and turn them into creations of art! Each day you will be given a theme. On the final day, we will have our very own cupcake wars. Teams will create a business name and a logo. Are you up for the challenge? Aprons will be provided. IMPORTANT INFORMATION! Camps fill up fast, so don’t forget to register at stchas.edu/learnforlife. At that time, you can download a welcome packet and submit the necessary forms to us at least one week prior to the start of camp. If your child has been prescribed an Epi-Pen or inhaler and can selfmedicate, a doctor’s signature is required. If your child is in a half-day camp, students must be registered in lunch supervision where our staff supervises and escorts them to lunch and afternoon camp. If your child needs before- and/or after-care, you also will need to register. Spaces fill up fast! Safety, fun and learning are our top priority!

STEM Camps In support of the Missouri Department of Higher Education’s (MDHE) commitment to improve education and support the development of industry in STEM, (science, technology, engineering and math) St. Charles Community College is offering 44 youth STEM camps.
NEW! STEAM Camps STEAM-based education camps (science, technology, engineering, art and math) combines critical-thinking skills and creative problem-solving skills together for a well-rounded education. St. Charles Community College supports this initiative by offering more camps in the arts, where students can attend morning and afternoon sessions or full-day camps for STEM and STEAM opportunities.

App Attack! Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize your own game app! Using a specialized app and game development tool, students will explore the world of Web-based (HTML5) mobile apps. In addition to learning the basics of mobile app design and game development, you will also see firsthand how the world of app publishing functions. Student-created apps will be accessible on a private site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. Week of June 13 Drama Camp (Ages 8-14) All the world’s a stage! Experience the exciting process of theatre through scene work and characterization. You will audition for a specific published play on the first day. For the following four days, you will block the play, work on characterization and gather props and costumes. Do you have what it takes to fight your way through a world of mythological monsters and dangerous demi-gods? If you find your way to camp half-blood, you just may learn to fight like a real hero, save mythological creatures and battle the powers of the underworld. CSI: Mystery to Trial (Ages 7-12) Step into the shoes of a crime scene investigator. A mystery needs to be solved! Working together as a Crime Scene Unit, you will take crime scene photographs, search for clues and start a case file to keep track of the evidence. Learn real procedures for collecting fingerprints and analyzing DNA, put clues together and interview witnesses to find the truth of the mystery. A mock trial will be held on the final day of camp. Discover how forensic experts and witnesses testify in court. Play the jury, decide whether the evidence was properly handled, and deliver a verdict. 6/20-6/24

Future Inventors Manufacturing Camp (Middle School) Join us for this unique career exploration camp into the world of manufacturing. Students will work in teams and learn how to collaborate together to work on robotic challenges using NXT Mindstorm kits and the newest technology–EV3 LEGO® Kits. Also, in partnership with Component Bar Products in O’Fallon, students will design and build a product. Learn how SolidWorks, a 3D design software product, works, and operate various kind of manufacturing machinery under the close supervision of expert manufacturing trainers. Tour local manufacturing facilities to learn what types of jobs exist, what skills and training are required, and how those businesses are developed. Workforce Development The mission of the SCC Workforce Development Department is to deliver customized training to the current workforce, re-direct the ready workforce to gainful employment and assist the development of the next generation of workers using programs and events to strengthen their understanding of the world of work. Business and Industry Program: Developing the Current Workforce The Business and Industry Program of St. Charles Community College has been a leading force in the St. Charles County business community since 1992. The Business and Industry Program works with large and small employers to identify job skills and training needs for thousands of workers and employers targeting primarily St. Charles, Pike, Lincoln, Montgomery and Callaway counties.

Liaison to State Training Funds The SCC Workforce Development Department is recognized by the state of Missouri as a Local Education Agency (LEA) for the application and administration of state funds for company training programs, new jobs training and similar grant funding programs. If your company meets state guidelines, you may be eligible to receive funding assistance to support employee training. Workforce Development can assist you in applying for state funds. Missouri Career Center Partnership The Missouri Career Center Partnership is a federally funded program that provides professional job search assistance to job seekers in St. Charles County. The program is part of the Workforce Investment Act serving individuals who have been displaced from their jobs and are unlikely to find employment in their previous occupation. This service is provided through the St. Charles County Department of Workforce Development at the Missouri Career Center. Contact the Missouri Career Center at 636-255-6060.
Services Provided: • Job Search Assistance: Including résumé preparation, identification of transferable skills, informational and job interviewing skills and marketing yourself to employers. Various workshops and networking opportunities are provided. • Individual Career Consultation: An individual plan of action is developed to determine job search goals and career direction. • Career Resource Center: For use by customers during their job search. Phones, copier, fax machine, PCs, laser printers and employer directories are available. Internet access is also available. • Job Placement Assistance: Including current labor market information and access to available job listings from area employers. • Training Opportunities: Available for eligible customers who require upgrade training or retraining into a different career. Adult Education and Literacy Adult Education and Literacy (AEL/ELA/HSE) St. Charles Community College coordinates a four-county effort (St. Charles, Warren, Lincoln and Pike) to teach reading, math and writing skills and concepts, to prepare people to take the High School Equivalency tests (HSE) and to assist non-native speakers in gaining English proficiency. Free day and evening classes are available. Students must be at least 17 years old and not enrolled in secondary school. High School Equivalency Instruction is available for students to improve basic skills, learn new skills and to prepare for and pass all five of the High School Equivalency tests.
English Language Acquisition (ELA) ELA classes provide reading, writing, listening and speaking activities at English proficiency levels for people wishing to improve their English language skills.
Citizenship Preparation Classes help students prepare for the citizenship interview. Students must have a resident card for four years or more (two years if spouse is a citizen) and at least intermediate-level English skills.
TOEFL Preparation Classes help students prepare for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Students whose first language is not English must pass this test for admission to college.

Pronunciation Classes In this class, students will learn how to pay closer attention to the unique, challenging sounds of the English language. Students will actively improve their rhythm and intonation, practice aloud as a group and individually with an instructor. Students will enhance listening and communication skills through practicing better pronunciation.
High School Equivalency (HSE) Testing On Jan. 1, 2014, the approved high school equivalency test for Missouri became the HiSET, which is offered by Educational Testing Service (ETS). this test is available only on computer but can be taken at various sites across Missouri, including St. Charles Community College. Paper and pencil high school equivalency tests are no longer offered for community test takers. Registration for the HiSET is done entirely on the computer. Registration information, cost information and test scheduling can be found at www.hiset.org. Students who register for all five equivalency tests will pay $95. These five tests must be scheduled within the span of one year. Students who wish to register and pay for tests separately will pay $32 for the first test and $22 each for the remaining four test sections (total of $120). All payments must be made by electronic check, debit or credit card. Volunteer Opportunities Volunteer tutors are needed to work with adult literacy students and in the HSE and ESL classrooms. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and must have a clear background check. They work with individuals or small groups of students under the direction of the classroom teacher.
