WEEK OF JUNE 9 An American Girl’s Life (Ages 7-12) Enjoy the week with Josefina, Kirsten, Rebecca, Molly and Julie. Journey into each doll’s time period. Geocaching – The Search for Treasure! (Ages 7-12) Welcome to the “high-tech” treasure hunt. Join us for one of the fastest growing outdoor activities. Using handheld GPS units, you will hike SCC for buried caches. Be the first group to master reading a map and coordinates, learn the importance of maintaining your logbook and use Internet sites to update data that can be used by other hunters. After this week, you will be able to direct your own family on a similar adventure. Bring your GPS to camp if you have one. NO AFTER-CARE AVAILABLE FOR THIS CAMP.

Percy Jackson Olympians, Lightning Thief Camp (Ages 8-12) Join Percy and his friends as mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus walk straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook right into this fun and imaginative camp. Do you have what it takes to fight your way through a world of mythological monsters and dangerous demi-gods? If you find your way to camp half-blood, you just may learn to fight like a real hero, save mythological creatures and battle the powers of the underworld. Broadway Musical Theater Revue (Ages 10-16) Perform in a musical revue! You will get a chance to pick music from such contemporary shows such as Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid, High School Musical and Grease and participate in choreographed routines. Young Artists Camp (Ages 5-6) Get ready for fun! Eric Carle’s The Hungry Caterpillar and The Grouchy Ladybug books will be the inspiration as we create art projects based on his colorful books. Sculpt a favorite character or animal with paper mache, design a mobile for the garden, eat a fruit caterpillar and more. We the People – Drama Camp (Ages 8-16) Discover the joy of theater and the thrill of collaborating together to put on a show! Learn how to use your voice and body effectively to portray a character. We the People tells the story of a town preparing for their Independence Day celebrations by putting together a show. The production is a combination of difference comedic and meaningful vignettes about how the Constitution affects the past, present and future. Make Your Own 3D Video Game By popular demand, we are offering a 3D game design class. This experience allows you to develop a game concept that goes well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design. Learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling flow of gameplay and storytelling. In this ghastly camp, you will have burping contests, learn about farts and poop shoots and make fake barf, blisters and scabs. Not gross enough? Campers will also dissect owl pellets, make slime and learn about the physiology of snot. Masterchef Step up and become a culinary master! Immerse yourself with advanced cooking techniques, tools of the trade, basic etiquette, nutrition, safety and even some kitchen math. Discover the challenges that make robotics technology accessible using problem-solving techniques. Create your robot using basic computer programming, principles of simple and complex machines, gearing and your own creativity. Teams will attempt to exploit the design weaknesses or incidental mechanical advantage of their opponents’ robots. A perfect blend of math, science and fun! Build and program robots using the new LEGO® Mindstorms EV3 system! Learn about mechanical and software design, loops, conditional statements, problem-solving and teamwork skills. Future Inventors Manufacturing Camp (Middle and High School) Join us for this unique career exploration camp into the world of manufacturing. High school students in partnership with Component Bar Products in O’Fallon will design and build a product, experiencing the start-to-finish satisfaction of creating something you can show off with pride. In the process, you will learn how to do CAD design and operate various kinds of manufacturing machinery under the close supervision of expert manufacturing trainers. Middle school students will work in teams and learn how to collaborate together to work on robotic challenges using NXT Mindstorm kits and the newest technology – EV3 LEGO® Kits. Both groups will tour local manufacturing facilities to learn what types of jobs exist, what skills and training are required, and how those businesses are developed. You will have the opportunity to hear directly from local manufacturing company owners how they started their businesses, applying basic entrepreneurship principles to understand how a single product idea becomes a business. Whether you aspire to work in manufacturing or medicine, law or any other field, having a basic understanding of how things are made and how businesses develop will make you more appreciative of the world around you and the tools you will use in your life. Come laugh with us every day as you learn a variety of theater games and improvisational games. Missouri Career Center Partnership The Missouri Career Center Partnership is a federally funded program that provides professional job search assistance to job seekers in St. Charles County. The program is part of the Workforce Investment Act serving individuals who have been displaced from their jobs and are unlikely to find employment in their previous occupation. Services Provided: • Job Search Assistance: Including résumé preparation, identification of transferable skills, informational and job interviewing skills and marketing yourself to employers. Adult Education and Literacy Adult Education and Literacy (AEL/ESL/HSE) St. Charles Community College coordinates a four-county effort (St. Charles, Warren, Lincoln and Pike) to teach basic reading, math and writing skills, to prepare people to take the High School Equivalency tests (HSE) and to assist non-native speakers in gaining English proficiency. Free day and evening classes are available. Students must be at least 17 years old and not enrolled in secondary school. High School Equivalency Instruction is available for students to improve basic skills, learn new skills and to prepare for and pass all five of the High School Equivalency tests.

English as a Second Language (ESL) ESL classes provide reading, writing, listening and speaking activities at English proficiency levels for people wishing to improve their English language skills.

Citizenship Preparation Classes help students prepare for the citizenship interview. Students must have a resident card for four years or more (two years if spouse is a citizen) and at least intermediate-level English skills.

TOEFL Preparation Classes help students prepare for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Students whose first language is not English must pass this test for admission to college.

Pronunciation Classes In this class students will learn how to pay closer attention to the unique, challenging sounds of the English language. Students will actively improve their rhythm and intonation, practice aloud as a group and individually with an instructor. Students will enhance listening and communication skills through practicing better pronunciation.

High School Equivalency (HSE) Testing On Jan. 1, 2014, the approved high school equivalency test for the State of Missouri became the HiSET which is offered by Educational Testing Service (ETS). This test is available only on computer but can be taken at various sites across Missouri, including St. Charles Community College. Paper and pencil high school equivalency tests are no longer offered for community test takers. Registration for the HiSET is done entirely on the computer. Registration information, cost information and test scheduling can be found at www.hiset.org. Students who register for all five equivalency tests will pay $95. These five tests must be scheduled within the span of one year. Students who wish to register and pay for tests separately will pay $32 for the first test and $22 each for the remaining four test sections (total of $120). All payments must be made by electronic check, debit or credit card. Please refer to the HiSET website for more detailed information (www.hiset.org). Volunteer Opportunities Volunteer tutors are needed to work with adult literacy students and in the HSE and ESL classrooms. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and must have a clear background check. They work with individuals or small groups of students under the direction of the classroom teacher. Inclement Weather Policy: In the event of

severe weather conditions or other emergencies, the SCC president may cancel classes and close the campus for a partial or full day. The college will update the SCC website (stchas. edu) and main number 636-922-8000, send a text message through the Emergency Alert System, and contact selected radio and television stations, when the timing of conditions allow, by 5 a.m. for day classes and no later than 4 p.m. for evening classes (if bad weather develops during the day).
