Cancellation Policy: Because St. Charles Community College Continuing Education (noncredit) classes are self-supporting, the decision to run a class is based on the number of people enrolled. The college reserves the right to cancel if sufficient enrollment is not achieved.

Registrations need to be received at least one week prior to the start of class to be considered in the determination of whether to cancel the class. An attempt will be made to notify registrants by phone or mail if a class is cancelled. Full refunds will be issued for classes cancelled by the college.

College Preparatory Math Course is for students who cannot test into or pass MAT 096, who want to review the core subjects of mathematics or improve their techniques and problem solving skills. Each student works at his own pace, and the number of modules required will depend on each individual’s current level of ability and the time and effort put into the class. Class is broken into four units: number sense, arithmetic, pre-algebra and word problems. LEGO® Robotics Engineering Camp (Ages 9-13) Take your engineering skills to a new level using LEGO® NXT Robotics kits and EV3 Mindstorm kits. Discover the challenges that make robotics technology accessible using problem solving techniques. Create your robot using basic computer programming, principles of simple and complex machines, gearing and your own creativity. Teams will attempt to exploit the design weaknesses or incidental mechanical advantage of their opponents’ robots. A perfect blend of math, science and fun! Hola Amigos! Spanish Language for Kids (Ages 6-10)

Do you want to improve your hockey skills or try a fun new sport? Join us at Great Skate for a week of hockey and superior coaching. Players divided into groups based on ability and age. Learn proper skating techniques, puck handling, shooting and passing, small-sided games and scrimmages and overall understanding of the game. T-shirt included. Camp taught by Lindenwood Roller Hockey team players. Camp held at Great Skate Roller Rink.

Young Champions – Cheerleading (Ages 4-16)

Ballet, jazz and modern dance technique training with choreography development. Emphasis placed on skill and technique refinement. Previous dance experience not needed.

Program promotes coordination, confidence, poise, physical fitness, artistic expression and competitive spirit. Students learn fundamentals of cheerleading, cheer routines, stunting, how to perform in front of audiences and preparation for tryouts of junior high or high school squads. $7 per 45-minute session for beginners session payable at each class, $8 per 60-minute session for advanced payable at each class. Exploration Daytrips These trips are for adult participants unless otherwise noted. Tuition includes meals, transportation and all admissions. Day trip coach departs from the circle by the Fine Arts and Humanities buildings. All return times are approximate.

Warm Springs Ranch – VIP Tour Experience the beautiful state-of-the-art breeding facility of the famous Budweiser Clydesdales at Warm Springs Ranch in Booneville, Mo. Climb aboard your personal custom-built vehicle to enjoy a private tour. Enjoy an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the environment of these magnificent horses. Includes private tour of breeding facility, visit with handler, close look at traveling hitch equipment, visit to foaling area, photo opportunity with one of the Clydesdales and an ice cold Budweiser. After the tour, we will have a family-style lunch at The Settler’s Inn. Tour takes place regardless of weather; involves significant walking. Dress appropriately. Bring your camera for photos. Missouri State Penitentiary Ghost Hunt Are you ready to take your ghost-hunting skills to the next level? During this three-hour excursion into one of the most haunted places in Missouri, a guide will provide you with the history of the penitentiary as well as basic insights into researching strange and unusual occurrences. Use activity finding devices to explore the penitentiary. Groups must stay together, though no one will be forced to enter any area they are uncomfortable with. Early dinner at Prison Brews before the tour. Must be 18 or older. All participants must sign waiver. You may photograph, but no videos. Flashlight recommended. Wear clothes appropriate to weather and sturdy walking shoes. Last date to cancel is 10/8. 10/23

One-Stroke Painting Series

Are you a current or former Continuing Education art student? Our studio is open for you! Use this time to complete your current art project at your own pace in this self-guided class. Collaborate with other artists while enhancing your artistic ability. Prerequisite: Must be a current or former Continuing Education art student.

Get results from the very first lesson even if you’ve never painted before! One-stroking is an easy way for the novice painter to produce incredible results with just a few supplies. Developed by Donna Dewberry, it has quickly become a popular way to paint designs on walls, glass, wood, metal or any item that will accept paint. Class is taught by certified instructor. Family History Workshop Day Getting the Most out of Your French Research Heidi Sugden is a native of Vienna, Austria. She has a M.A. in German Literature. She has been employed at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City for more than 15 years as the French research consultant. Heidi is accredited for French Research and is also an expert in Austrian and German Research. Join her for these sessions on French Research. Session 1: French Church and Civil Records – Paleography Issues This session will teach beginning and intermediate researchers how to read French civil and church records, and where to find the records online. We will discuss the French Republican Calendar and other things about French recordkeeping. Session 2: Strategies for Successful French Research In this session, you will learn the basics of French research, including map resources and methodology. This class will also discuss research in Alsace. About Online Learning Online learning is a fun, enjoyable and very productive way to learn. Millions of people are learning online each year. How the Course Works It is easy to participate in your online course. After you register, you will be given a Web address to get into your online classroom. Adult Education and Literacy Adult Education and Literacy (AEL/ESL/HSE) St. Charles Community College coordinates a four-county effort (St. Charles, Warren, Lincoln and Pike) to teach basic reading, math and writing skills, to prepare people to take the High School Equivalency tests (HSE) and to assist non-native speakers in gaining English proficiency. Free day and evening classes are available. Students must be at least 17 years old and not enrolled in secondary school. Pronunciation Classes In this class students will learn how to pay closer attention to the unique, challenging sounds of the English language. Students will actively improve their rhythm and intonation, practice aloud as a group and individually with an instructor. Students will enhance listening and communication skills through practicing better pronunciation.

High School Equivalency (HSE) Testing On Jan. 1, 2014, the approved high school equivalency test for the State of Missouri became the HiSET which is offered by Educational Testing Service (ETS). This test is available only on computer but can be taken at various sites across Missouri, including St. Charles Community College. Paper and pencil high school equivalency tests are no longer offered for community test takers. Registration for the HiSET is done entirely on the computer. Registration information, cost information and test scheduling can be found at www.hiset.org. Students who register for all five equivalency tests will pay $95. These five tests must be scheduled within the span of one year. Students who wish to register and pay for tests separately will pay $32 for the first test and $22 each for the remaining four test sections (total of $120). Refund Policy: If you drop a class, you will receive a 100 percent refund if the class is dropped one business day before the first meeting. No refund will be given if the class is dropped the day of class or later. Events which may require more advanced notice to cancel include, but are not limited to, certain business and industry classes, conferences, trips, day trips and other special events. For these exceptions, refer to the LAST DAY TO CANCEL information listed in the course description. If you have a situation that warrants an override of the above policy, an explanation of the circumstances should be made in writing to the Division of Corporate and Community Development. The appropriate associate dean will review the situation to determine if a refund can be granted and will notify you accordingly. Refunds should be received within 30 days. Inclement Weather Policy: In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergencies, the SCC president may cancel classes and close the campus for a partial or full day. The college will update the SCC website (stchas. edu) and main number 636-922-8000, send a text message through the Emergency Alert System, and contact selected radio and television stations, when the timing of conditions allow, by 5 a.m. for day classes and no later than 4 p.m. for evening classes (if bad weather develops during the day). The college will typically update the college website and main number prior to contacting the selected radio and television stations. It is recommended to use the college’s website or main number in order to receive information in a more timely manner.
