Week of June 4 Geocaching – The Search for Treasure! (Ages 7-12) Welcome to the ’high-tech’ treasure hunt. Join us for one of the fastest growing outdoor activities. Using handheld GPS units, you will hike SCC for buried caches. Be the first group to master reading a map and coordinates, learn the importance of maintaining your logbook and use Internet sites to update data that can be used by other hunters. After this week, you will be able to direct your own family on a similar adventure. Bring your GPS to camp if you have one. Camp requires physical activity. Students will be doing a lot of walking. Physics, Flight and Vehicles (Ages 7-12) Blast into a fun-filled week with Miss Kathy and Mr. Fred! Design, build and launch airplanes, flying gadgets, motor vehicles, hot air balloons and more! Learn the physics behind flight, and race your vehicles for speed and distance. You will learn the tactics to succeed as pilots using computers that allow you to fly with flight simulators and learn how to fly a drone. Watch the flight club perform aerobatics with their remote control airplanes, and learn how they control the flight and distance for their planes. 6/4-6/8

Do you love to make cupcakes and watch Cupcake Wars on the Food Network? In this amazing camp, you can let your imagination and creativity run wild as you discover how to use icing, flavorings, candy clay, gum paste, decorations and candies and turn them into creations of art! Each day you will be given a theme. On the final day, we will have our very own cupcake wars. Teams will create a business name and a logo. Are you up for the challenge? Aprons will be provided. Minecraft Designers (Ages 8-10) If you love the game Minecraft and always wanted to design your own world, this camp is for you! Learn how to create a custom map, the basics of creating 3D models using a new software to design your very own objects, how to build with Redstone and Command blocks, and create custom textures for you to import at home or share with friends. To access their project at home, students must own a PC/MAC version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Parent email address is required to use 3D modeling software. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. IMPORTANT INFORMATION! Camps fill up fast, so donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t forget to register at stchas.edu/learnforlife. At that time, you can download a welcome packet and submit the necessary forms to us at least one week prior to the start of camp. Camps that have low enrollment will cancel one week prior to the start date of camp and full refunds issued. Most camps are held at SCC except Science Rocks, App Attack, Advanced 3D Video Game With Unity, Code Your Own Adventure, Python Programmer, 3D Printing (EXCEPT JUNE 11 WEEK) and Woodworking. Science Rocks will be at Quail Ridge Park (in cooperation with St. Charles County Parks). App Attack, Advanced 3D Video Game With Unity, Code Your Own Adventure and Python Programmer will be at One Academy Place in Dardenne Prairie. 3D Printing (EXCEPT JUNE 11 WEEK) and Woodworking will be at Inventor Forge in the EDC Building located in Cottleville. If your child has been prescribed an Epi-Pen or inhaler and can selfmedicate, a doctorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s signature is required which can be found in the emergency form. If your child is in a half-day camp, students must be registered in lunch supervision where our staff supervises and escorts them to lunch and afternoon camp. If your child needs before- and/or after-care, you also will need to register. Spaces fill up fast! Safety, fun and learning are our top priority!

Kindermath: Arithmetic Adventures (Ages 5-6) Explore the patterns of numbers and the fun of solving interesting and meaningful arithmetic problems. Let us take the frustration out of learning math. Games and activities will reinforce math skills while having fun. 6/4-6/8

Inventor Forge Maker Space Camps Tinker, build and play in this dynamic Maker Space blending art, technology, engineering and science. Explore creativity and innovation in a collaborative space show casing projects and ideas. Use critical thinking to step outside the box! App Attack! OAP Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize your own game app! Using a specialized app and game development tool, students will explore the world of web-based (HTML5) mobile apps. In addition to learning the basics of mobile app design and game development, you will also see firsthand how the world of app publishing functions. Student-created apps will be accessible on a private site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. Publishing to app stores not included. Jewelry Designers (Ages 8-13) Have you ever dreamed of designing your own jewelry line? Campers will create a bracelet, a pair of earrings and a necklace. In a two-step process, campers will first design their piece and then create it using hands-on methods and an awesome selection of materials. Do you have what it takes to fight your way through a world of mythological monsters and dangerous demi-gods? If you find your way to camp half-blood, you just may learn to fight like a real hero, save mythological creatures and battle the powers of the underworld. Raging Reaction Lab/Grossology (Ages 7-12) Do you love to gross people out? In this ghastly camp, you will have burping contests, watch something decompose, and make fake vomit, blisters and scabs. Not gross enough? Campers will also dissect owl pellets, make slime and learn about the physiology of snot. There will be experiments with Mentos and Coke, and we’ll make pop and bottle rockets and self-inflating balloons. 6/18-6/22

Video Game Animation Take your game design skills to the next level by creating and animating your own character sprites, objects and backgrounds. Start with a name, develop the character’s personality, signature moves, special powers and a story line. Finish with a fully animated character to be used in your very own game. Students do not need any prior experience in game design, animation, or sketching. Student-created games will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Games are only compatible on PC computers; Mac versions can be created after the program for $15 conversion fee. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. A-Cappella Camp (Ages 10-14) Do you like Pentatonix and Pitch Perfect? This fun camp is designed for singers and includes creative music making using a student’s natural ability. Learn how to create music with your own voice in a fun and comfortable setting through a variety of short pop pieces, rounds, and basic a-cappella songs. Gain confidence in harmonizing and improvising with others to make beautiful music together. Performance on the last day. 6/18-6/22

Cougar Cheer Camp (Ages 7-10) Go Cougars! Come cheer for SCC! During this funfilled camp, students will learn cheers, chants and jumps, as well as some stunting. All of these skills will be put together for a performance on the last day. This is a perfect opportunity for girls and boys to advance their skills in cheerleading or start learning from the beginning. T-shirt included in camp. CSI: Mystery to Trial (Ages 9-12) Step into the shoes of a crime scene investigator. A mystery needs to be solved! Working together as a crime scene unit, you will take crime scene photographs, search for clues and start a case file to keep track of the evidence. Learn real procedures for collecting fingerprints and analyzing DNA, put clues together and interview witnesses to find the truth of the mystery. A mock trial will be held on the final day of camp. Discover how forensic experts and witnesses testify in court. Play the jury, decide whether the evidence was properly handled, and deliver a verdict. 7/9-7/13

In this cutting-edge camp, you will learn the foundations of VR design by creating your own virtual worlds, exploring simulated environments and crafting memorable 3D experiences. Home Inspection Certificate A home inspection is a documented, professional opinion of a home, based on a visual evaluation and operational testing of the home’s systems and components to determine their current condition. This 10-course online certificate program provides students with the technical skills and expertise needed to succeed in the home inspection field. Workforce Development The mission of the SCC Workforce Development Department is to deliver customized training to the current workforce, re-direct the ready workforce to gainful employment and assist the development of the next generation of workers using programs and events to strengthen their understanding of the world of work.

Business and Industry Program: Developing the Current Workforce The Business and Industry Program of St. Charles Community College has been a leading force in the St. Charles County business community since 1992. Liaison to State Training Funds The SCC Workforce Development Department is recognized by the state of Missouri as a Local Education Agency (LEA) for the application and administration of state funds for company training programs, new jobs training and similar grant funding programs. Missouri Career Center Partnership The Missouri Career Center Partnership is a federally funded program that provides professional job search assistance to job seekers in St. Charles County. The program is part of the Workforce Investment Act serving individuals who have been displaced from their jobs and are unlikely to find employment in their previous occupation. Services Provided: • Job Search Assistance: Including résumé preparation, identification of transferable skills, informational and job interviewing skills and marketing yourself to employers. Adult Education and Literacy Adult Education and Literacy (AEL/ESL/HSE) St. Charles Community College coordinates a four-county effort (St. Charles, Warren, Lincoln and Pike) to teach reading, math and writing, to prepare people to take the High School Equivalency tests (HSE) and to assist non-native speakers in gaining English proficiency. Citizenship Preparation Classes help students prepare for the citizenship interview. Some attendance rules apply.

TOEFL Preparation Classes help students prepare for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Students whose first language is not English must pass this test for admission to college. This class does not offer the actual test.

Pronunciation Classes

Instruction is available for students to improve basic skills, learn new skills and to prepare for and pass all five of the High School Equivalency tests.

In this class, students will learn how to pay closer attention to the unique, challenging sounds of the English language. Students will actively improve their rhythm and intonation, practice aloud as a group and individually with an instructor.

Qualified AEL students will be able to study For their HiSET or learn English while also learning the curriculum that leads to a certified workplace credential. Currently Adult Education and Literacy offers IET classes for Certified Nursing Assistant and Certified Logistics Technician. Tuition assistance is an integral part of the program. English as a Second Language (ESL) ESL classes provide reading, writing, listening and speaking activities at English proficiency levels for people wishing to improve their English language skills.

Celebrating Adult Education and Literacy in St. Charles County!

The approved high school equivalency test for Missouri is the HiSET, which is offered by Educational Testing Service (ETS). This test is available only on computer but can be taken at various sites across Missouri, including St. Charles Community College. Paper and pencil high school equivalency tests are no longer offered for community test taker. Registration for the HiSET is done entirely on the computer. Registration information, cost information and test scheduling can be found at www.hiset.org. Test fees total $95.

Volunteer Opportunities Volunteer tutors are needed to work with adult literacy students and in the HSE and ESL classrooms. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and must have a clear background check. They work with individuals or small groups of students under the direction of the classroom teacher. Refund Policy: If you drop a class, you will receive a 100 percent refund if the class is dropped one business day before the first meeting or earlier. No refund will be given if the class is dropped the day of class or later. Events which may require more advanced notice to cancel include, but are not limited to, certain business and industry classes, conferences, trips, day trips and other special events. For these exceptions, refer to the LAST DAY TO CANCEL information listed in the course description. If you have a situation that warrants an override of the above policy, an explanation of the circumstances should be made in writing to the Division of Corporate and Community Development. The appropriate associate dean will review the situation to determine if a refund can be granted and will notify you accordingly. Refunds should be received within 30 days. Inclement Weather Policy: In the event of

severe weather conditions or other emergencies, the SCC president may cancel classes and close the campus for a partial or full day. The college will update the SCC website (stchas. edu) and main number 636-922-8000, send a text message through the Emergency Alert System, and contact selected radio and television stations, when the timing of conditions allow, by 5 a.m. for day classes and no later than 4 p.m. for evening classes (if bad weather develops during the day). The college will typically update the college website and main number prior to contacting the selected radio and television stations. It is recommended to use the college’s website or main number in order to receive information in a more timely manner.
