Each fall, St. Charles Community College is the choice of approximately one in four St. Charles County high school graduates. And it’s no wonder, with small class sizes and professors who want you to succeed. Discover why SCC is right for you.

The reasons are clear SCC is the place to start mapping your future and to discover who you want to be. Whether your next step is finding a job or transferring to a four-year institution, you’ll find help around every corner, and an abundance of academic and personal support made available by a dedicated faculty and staff. There are 24 pathways available to students who want to transfer and more than 41 degrees and certificates for students who want to jump start their career. SCC offers more than 60 online courses. 81 percent of full-time faculty members have master’s degrees in their subject area and 18 percent have doctoral degrees. The average class size is 24. Enrollment for the fall 2010 semester surpassed 8,000 students, a number that continues to grow.

Free tutoring and computer use The ACE Center offers free tutoring in math, science, English, French, Spanish and study skills. Study courses are available in spelling, vocabulary and geometry. In the computer lab, you’ll find more than 90 workstations for typing papers and Internet access, plus Mac computers for multimedia projects.
Special learning assistance Services are available to qualified students with a disability. The Accessibility Services Office provides test accommodations,

registration assistance and alternate formats for learning. Be sure to request services at least eight weeks in advance to assure appropriate and reasonable accommodations.
An abundance of resources In addition to the Learning Resource Center, which contains a collection of books, periodicals, audio-visual materials and electronic databases, you’ll have access to an additional 14 million volumes through the MOBIUS shared library organization.

Career services Your journey to success after college starts with SCC’s Career Services, which offers career counseling, career assessment tools, more than 2,100 occupational briefs, job search assistance, job postings, job shadowing opportunities, workshops and classes. SCC-sponsored transfer, college majors and job fairs are a big help, too.
Online and technical help The SCC Help Desk is available when you need technical assistance with any SCC online services, such as registering for classes, logging into your student e-mail and viewing grades.
Academic advising and counseling SCC’s academic advisors and counselors can help guide you toward mature academic decision making, such as setting goals, choosing the right courses and developing an educational plan, all based on your interests and abilities.
College-level class prep SCC offers developmental courses – nontransferable credit classes that prepare you for college-level work. You may also benefit from the Success Semester program, a college preparatory opportunity that gives you the skills you need to succeed in college classes.

Expand your horizons SCC offers opportunities to explore new cultures first-hand and to enrich your academic experience through the fun and adventure of travel.
Education abroad Cross “the pond” and earn 12 hours of credit in the spring at Canterbury Christ Church University. Students live with a British family in Canterbury and experience the history and politics of England through study field excursions and optional side trips.
Experience of a lifetime Whether you take it for credit or just for fun, SCC’s Study Tours, led by SCC faculty, will help you develop a better understanding of the world through guided travel to places such as Puerto Rico, the Greek Isles and Spain.

How do I afford it? Stressed out by the prospect of paying for college? Don’t be. For students who qualify, there are plenty of ways to help make your education more affordable:

They range from a specific amount given in a particular semester to a full scholarship of tuition and standard fees for up to four consecutive semesters.
Low-interest loans can help finance your college education. The money you receive must be repaid at a future date. The Federal Work Study Program offers part-time campus employment in a variety of roles such as tutors and office and lab assistants.
Do you qualify for the A+ Program at SCC? Ask your high school to forward a transcript indicating that you are an A+ eligible recipient. Then set up a meeting with an SCC counselor to build your schedule.
To be considered for financial assistance, you should first apply for admission to SCC, and then fill out a FAFSA application online at www.fafsa.gov.

Compared to the universities where most of our students transfer, SCC’s tuition is half the cost.
In-District Students – $80 per credit hour* (includes any person whose residence is within the boundaries of St. Charles County, with the exception of the Washington School District)
Out-of-District, In-State Students – $118 per credit hour* (includes anyone who resides in Missouri, but outside of St. Charles Community College District)
Out-of-District, Out-of-State Students, and International Students – $175 per credit hour* (includes international students holding F, H [except H-1B], J, O-2, P, or Q visas):

Center Stage Theatre
Lunchtime concerts
Several classic and contemporary productions are performed each year, giving students and the community a chance to command the stage.
Enjoy your lunch and some free music by musicians from across the country, as well as local performers and SCC musicians.
Art exhibitions
International Film Series
Each year at least six exhibitions rotate through the SCC gallery and include work by students, faculty and local professional artists.
Art, culture and education come together at free, international film screenings. Popcorn is on the house!
SCC Coffeehouse
Music performances
Share your creativity in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Open-Mic Night at the SCC Coffeehouse is a venue for expression of original work in prose, poetry and song held four times a year on campus.
The SCC Music Department puts together a rich mix of entertainment, including a concert band, orchestra, jazz combos, chorale ensembles and more. Join in – these concerts feature SCC students and community residents.

Beyond the classroom Ross Kimpling, Francis Howell North alum “SCC gave me a fresh start in life and helped me prepare for my career,” Ross said. He plans on transferring to ITT Tech after graduating from SCC. “SCC has helped me realize my potential and gave me the tools that I needed to help me figure out what I want to do.”
SCC is more than an education. It’s an experience. With more than 30 student organizations, events with free food and prizes and a variety of sports, there is always something to do when you’re not studying or in class.
Cougar athletics Athletic opportunities at SCC include four intercollegiate sports teams: soccer and baseball for men, along with soccer and softball for women. All four teams compete at the NJCAA Division 1 level. Club sports include basketball, cheerleading and SCC’s eight-time national championship-winning roller hockey team.

Some deadlines are critical when it comes to college. Tracking the info below will help you out.
February
April
Begin your financial aid application process once your taxes are complete. You can start by filling out a FAFSA file at www.fafsa.gov.
Registration for summer and fall classes begins. Don’t forget: the early bird gets the worm, so register early for best class availability.
Trustee and Foundation scholarship applications are due April 1, so February is the time to start filling them out. Download applications at www.stchas. edu/scholarships, or visit Room 1113 of the Administration Building for help.
Other important dates
March It’s testing time! Your English, math and reading scores indicate academic areas where you are strong and where you may need help. Testing is done on a walk-in basis; contact the Assessment Center or visit Student Center Room 133 to get started.
Attend Smart Start, an orientation and registration session for new students, in mid-April. Call 636-922-8241 to register (it’s free). Be sure to bring your transcripts from dual-credit classes. Classes start in August, January and June, and tuition payments are due to the Cashier’s Office before the start of each semester. Textbooks for each new semester are available during finals week of the previous term.
