President’s Message Dear Friends, Welcome to St. Charles Community College. I can tell you without a doubt, you have made a smart choice to attend SCC. Thousands of SCC graduates have gone on to pursue their educational goals, with many of them living, working and making a difference right here in St. Charles County. I encourage you to explore all of what the college has to offer. Whether your goal is to transfer to a four-year college, to enter the workforce or to take advantage of the many personal and professional development opportunities, the door is open for you here. Making sure you are successful is at the center of the SCC mission and we are fortunate to have dedicated and experienced faculty and staff who are focused on teaching and learning. You’ll find that the support and resources available on campus are abundant. The tutoring center on campus is free, offering assistance with your studies and providing access to more than 90 computers. Also, a new office for student veterans is available.
The college offers a wide range of financial assistance and scholarship options, which help to keep a quality education affordable. Even with access to low tuition, we understand that a college education can still be a financial challenge, so I hope you will check out all the possibilities. Last, but not least, get involved – the connections you make while you are here will serve you well in your future. From clubs and activities to sports and events, you will find a number of ways to connect with other students and to be active on campus. I invite you to explore this schedule of classes, visit the campus or check out www.stchas.edu for more information.
Sincerely,
Ron Chesbrough, Ph.D. President

Upcoming Registration Dates: 2013 Summer and Fall registration begins April 8-12 for currently enrolled and returning students. Registration opens April 15 for new students. Tough Time Scheduling Classes? We Have Options! If a traditional schedule of classes isn’t convenient for you, consider classes offered later in the semester. Spring late-start classes begin three weeks after regular course work. Another option – distance learning Classes - they can start up to three weeks after regular 16-week classes and offer instruction on your terms. Telecourses, teleweb and online courses are equal in value to the credit given to 16-week classes. Look for these courses on page 41. You will find classes at St. Charles Community College suited to your schedule.

(Use this number to look up the course description in the college catalog.) • Two-digit section number. Several sections (classes) of the same course may be offered each semester. • Sections occurring within mini-mesters (other than distance learning classes) will have three digit section numbers. The first digit will denote which mini-mester the class is in. For distance learning classes, special section letter indicates type of course:
H – Hybrid (Course is partially on campus and partially online); N – Online; T – Telecourse; W – TeleWeb. Course – Course name may be abbreviated to fit the space. See the online college catalog for the full course name. Credit – Credit hours are based on the number of hours per week the class meets and the length of the term. Days – Days refers to the days of the week the class is held. The following letters represent each day of the week classes are held: M – Monday T – Tuesday W – Wednesday R – Thursday F – Friday S – Saturday For example: MWF means the class meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday; TR means the class meets Tuesday and Thursday.

OFF-CAMPUS SITES CONTINUING EDUCATION
Distance Learning Courses Earn College Credit at Home Who Should Take a Distance Learning Class? Distance learning classes are not easier than traditional classes. They have the same expectations and are equivalent to classes taught on campus. Courses that do not require weekly classroom attendance require a significant amount of self-discipline. Successful students are generally: highly motivated, independent, active learners, have good reading and organizational skills, can adapt to new learning environments, have discipline to study without external reminders, and have computer literacy skills (may need to use e-mail, Moodle, etc.). Visit www.stchas.edu/distance and click “Is Online Right for Me?” to determine your readiness.
What Is “Distance Learning?”
Some campus meetings may be scheduled for online courses. Students must check the distance learning website at www.stchas.edu/dlcritical for critical information at least one week prior to the start of the semester. Please call the Distance Learning Office at 636-922-8470 if you have any questions.
Spring 2013 Courses Online Classes
ACT 101-N1 – Applied Accounting ACT 105-N1 – Personal Accounting & Finance ACT 110-N1 – Financial Accounting I ANT 102-N1 – Introduction to Cultural Anthropology
Distance learning classes include online courses, telecourses, and teleweb courses that do not require regular classroom attendance but may require an oncampus orientation, midterm or final exam. Students use textbooks, complete written assignments and receive faculty assistance. Distance learning classes are comparable to on-campus classes in credits earned.
More Flexibility for You Distance learning classes offer flexibility for students with full work schedules, people with jobs that require travel or rotating shifts, or those who have parenting responsibilities. Hybrid Classes are partially on campus and partially online. No more than 50% of instruction is on campus. Online classes use materials on the Moodle website and e-mail for communication. E-mail and World Wide Web experience is assumed. Telecourses are DVDs/videos available for viewing in the SCC Library and may be available to check-out. Students must attend some oncampus meetings TeleWeb courses add Internet activities to the video programming of telecourses. Students need access to the Internet and experience with e-mail and the World Wide Web. Register and pay for your courses as you would any traditional SCC course – either in person, by mail, or online. Textbooks and study guides may be purchased from the SCC Bookstore in person or from the Bookstore website. Most distance learning courses are 3 credit hours. In addition to the tuition, there is a teleweb/telecourse fee of $45 per course. Mandatory meetings are scheduled before the start of the distance learning class.

SCC STUDY TOURS
Watch for the 2013 tour schedule at www.stchas.edu/studytours.
STUDY TOUR FAQs What is a study tour? A study tour is a travel experience with specific learning goals. Study tours emphasize experiential learning .and offer both group and self-directed activities that enable learners to explore new territories, languages, and .cultures. Most SCC study tours are offered for optional college credit. Study tours are designed to be both fun .and educational. Our groups enjoy the local cuisine, socialize freely and make use of the local recreational .and cultural resources of the areas that we visit. However, study tours are NOT party trips. If you are looking .for a spring break blitz or summer beach party, you’ll do better to look elsewhere for your travel experience. Most study tours are available for college credit. For more information, call 636-922-8254 or visit www.stchas.edu/studytours.
What are some advantages of traveling with SCC?
You can usually get a better value for the whole group package than you can by traveling on your own (or .even with another group). You won’t have to worry about driving in a strange area with unfamiliar language .and customs – or when you are tired. There are no worries or hassles about where to stay, .how to get there, or even checking in!
You will have access to a professional guide as well as your SCC escort(s) for help and advice. Itineraries are .designed to maximize your overall experience.
Who is invited? Everyone! Although college students often participate in our study tours, we have enjoyed the participation .of community members, family and friends from ages 15 to 82. Please seek the permission of the tour leader .for unaccompanied learners under 18 or if you wish to bring children under age 10.
