Week of June 5 Cougar Cheer Camp (Ages 5-7) Go Cougars! Come cheer for SCC! During this funfilled camp, students will learn cheers, chants and jumps, as well as some stunting. All of these skills will be put together for a performance on the last day. This is a perfect opportunity for girls and boys to advance their skills in cheerleading or start learning from the beginning. T-shirt included in camp. Raging Reaction Lab/Grossology (Ages 7-12) Do you love to gross people out? In this ghastly camp, you will have burping contests, watch something decompose, make fake vomit, blisters and scabs. Not gross enough? Campers will also dissect owl pellets, make slime and learn about the physiology of snot. There will be experiments with Mentos and Coke, and we’ll make pop and bottle rockets and self-inflating balloons. 6/5-6/9 M-F 9a-4p

An American Girl’s Life (Ages 7-12) Enjoy the week with five historic dolls and others. Journey into each doll’s time period through activities, foods of their culture and crafts. Geocaching – The Search for Treasure! (Ages 7-12) Welcome to the “high-tech” treasure hunt. Join us for one of the fastest growing outdoor activities. Using handheld GPS units, you will hike SCC for buried caches. Be the first group to master reading a map and coordinates, learn the importance of maintaining your logbook, and use Internet sites to update data that can be used by other hunters. After this week, you will be able to direct your own family on a similar adventure. Bring your GPS to camp if you have one. Camp requires physical activity. Students will be doing a lot of walking. Comedy Theater Camp (Ages 10-14) Do you like to make people laugh or dream of being a stand-up comedian? Come laugh with us every day as you learn a variety of theater games and improvisational games. Each day you will be given a theme. On the final day, we will have our very own cupcake wars. Teams will create a business name and a logo. Are you up for the challenge? Aprons will be provided. IMPORTANT INFORMATION! Camps fill up fast, so don’t forget to register at stchas.edu/learnforlife. At that time, you can download a welcome packet and submit the necessary forms to us at least one week prior to the start of camp. If your child has been prescribed an Epi-Pen or inhaler and can selfmedicate, a doctor’s signature is required. If your child is in a half-day camp, students must be registered in lunch supervision where our staff supervises and escorts them to lunch and afternoon camp. If your child needs before- and/or after-care, you also will need to register. Spaces fill up fast! Safety, fun and learning are our top priority!

STEM Camps In support of the Missouri Department of Higher Education’s (MDHE) commitment to improve education and support the development of industry in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), St. Charles Community College is offering 44 youth STEM camps.
NEW! STEAM Camps STEAM-based education camps (science, technology, engineering, art and math) combines critical-thinking skills and creative problem-solving skills together for a well-rounded education. St. Charles Community College supports this initiative by offering more camps in the arts, where students can attend morning and afternoon sessions or full-day camps for STEM and STEAM opportunities.

Sheltered Reality Drumline (Ages 9-14)
Minecraft Designers If you love the game Minecraft and always wanted to design your own world, this camp is for you! Learn how to create a custom map, the basics of creating 3D models using a new software to design your very own objects, how to build with Redstone and Command blocks, and create custom textures for you to import at home or share with friends. To access their project at home, students must own a PC/Mac version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Parent email address is required to use 3D modeling software. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Blast into a fun-filled week. Design, build and launch airplanes, flying gadgets, motor vehicles, hot air balloons and more! Learn the physics behind flight, and race your vehicles for speed and distance. You will learn the tactics to succeed as pilots using computers that allow you to fly with flight simulators and learn how to fly a drone. Watch the flight club perform aerobatics with their remote control airplanes, and learn how they control the flight and distance for their planes. 6/12-6/16 M-F

Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design, and customize your own game app! Using a specialized app and game-development tool, students will explore the world of web-based (HTML5) mobile apps. In addition to learning the basics of mobile app design and game development, you will also see firsthand how the world of app publishing functions. Student-created apps will be accessible on a private site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. Publishing to app stores not included. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years. The Voice: Music Camp (Ages 9-14) Do you love to sing and watch the TV show The Voice? We will show you how to be a star! Learn audition techniques and stage presence, and have fun learning how you can shine with the talent you have. Receive group and personal vocal coaching throughout the week to improve your singing skills and perform a special song of your choosing along with a group number on the last day. This year we will be working on a group number form the Broadway hit Hamilton. Singing and performing has never been so much fun. Week of June 19 Drama Camp (Ages 8-14) All the world’s a stage! Experience the exciting process of theater through scene work and characterization. You will audition for a specific published play on the first day. For the following four days, you will block the play, work on characterization and gather props and costumes. Percy Jackson Olympians, Lightning Thief Camp (Ages 8-12) Join Percy and his friends as mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus walk straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook right into this fun and imaginative camp. Do you have what it takes to fight your way through a world of mythological monsters and dangerous demi-gods? If you find your way to camp half-blood, you just may learn to fight like a real hero, save mythological creatures and battle the powers of the underworld. Your child will explore the basics of rhythm, melody and dynamics while creating and writing their own music with homemade instruments. Activities include making a life-sized musical staff, playing singing and dancing games, exploring a few historic musical figures and learning songs for a performance at the end of the week. Take your game design skills to the next level by creating and animating your own character sprites, objects and backgrounds. Start with a name, then develop the character’s personality, signature moves, special powers and a story line. Finish with a fully animated character to be used in your very own game. Students do not need any prior experience in game design, animation or sketching. Student-created games will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Games are only compatible on PC computers; Mac versions can be created after the program for a $15 conversion fee. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Jewelry Designers (Ages 9-13) Have you ever dreamed of designing your own jewelry line? Campers will create a bracelet, a pair of earrings and a necklace. In a two-step process, campers will first design their piece and then create it using hands-on methods and an awesome selection of materials. CSI: Mystery to Trial (Ages 10-12) Step into the shoes of a crime scene investigator. A mystery needs to be solved! Working together as a crime Scene unit, you will take crime scene photographs, search for clues and start a case file to keep track of the evidence. Adult Education and Literacy Adult Education and Literacy (AEL/ELA/HSE) St. Charles Community College coordinates a four-county effort (St. Charles, Warren, Lincoln and Pike) to teach reading, math and writing skills and concepts, to prepare people to take the High School Equivalency tests (HSE) and to assist non-native speakers in gaining English proficiency. Pronunciation Classes In this class, students will learn how to pay closer attention to the unique, challenging sounds of the English language. Students will actively improve their rhythm and intonation, practice aloud as a group and individually with an instructor. Students will enhance listening and communication skills through practicing better pronunciation.
High School Equivalency (HSE) Testing On Jan. 1, 2014, the approved high school equivalency test for Missouri became the HiSET, which is offered by Educational Testing Service (ETS). this test is available only on computer but can be taken at various sites across Missouri, including St. Charles Community College. Paper and pencil high school equivalency tests are no longer offered for community test takers. Registration for the HiSET is done entirely on the computer. Registration information, cost information and test scheduling can be found at www.hiset.org. Students who register to test will pay a total of $95. The five tests must be scheduled within the span of one year. Students register and pay for tests separately. The cost of the first test is $27. The other 4 sub-tests costs $7 each. The complete testing battery is $95. All payments must be made by electronic check, debit or credit card. Please refer to the HiSET website for more detailed information (www.hiset.org). Volunteer Opportunities Volunteer tutors are needed to work with adult literacy students and in the HSE and ESL classrooms. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and must have a clear background check. They work with individuals or small groups of students under the direction of the classroom teacher. Announcements will be made on KMOX Radio (1120 AM), KSDK TV (Channel 5), KMOV TV (Channel 4) and KTVI TV (Channel 2). In the case of evening classes held at middle schools and high schools in the area, SCC classes will not meet if it has been announced that the schools themselves are closed.

Registration hours: • 8a-7p Monday-Thursday; • 8:30a-4p Fridays. Refund Policy: If you drop a class, you will receive a 100 percent refund if the class is dropped one business day before the first meeting or earlier. No refund will be given if the class is dropped the day of class or later. Events which may require more advanced notice to cancel include, but are not limited to, certain business and industry classes, conferences, trips, day trips and other special events. For these exceptions, refer to the LAST DAY TO CANCEL information listed in the course description. If you have a situation that warrants an override of the above policy, an explanation of the circumstances should be made in writing to the Division of Corporate and Community Development. The appropriate associate dean will review the situation to determine if a refund can be granted and will notify you accordingly. Refunds should be received within 30 days. Inclement Weather Policy: In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergencies, the SCC president may cancel classes and close the campus for a partial or full day. The college will update the SCC website (stchas. edu) and main number 636-922-8000, send a text message through the Emergency Alert System, and contact selected radio and television stations, when the timing of conditions allow, by 5 a.m. for day classes and no later than 4 p.m. for evening classes (if bad weather develops during the day). The college will typically update the college website and main number prior to contacting the selected radio and television stations. It is recommended to use the college’s website or main number in order to receive information in a more timely manner.

Cancellation Policy: Because St. Charles Community College Continuing Education (non-credit) classes are self-supporting, the decision to run a class is based on the number of people enrolled. The college reserves the right to cancel if sufficient enrollment is not achieved. Registrations need to be received at least one week prior to the start of class to be considered in the determination of whether to cancel the class. An attempt will be made to notify registrants by phone or mail if a class is cancelled. Full refunds will be issued for classes cancelled by the college.
