WEEK OF JUNE 3 Geocaching - The Search for Treasure! (Ages 10-14) Welcome to the high-tech treasure hunt. Join us for one of the fastest-growing outdoor activities. Using handheld GPS units, you will hike SCC for buried caches. Be the first group to master reading a map and coordinates, learn the importance of maintaining your logbook and use Internet sites to update data that can be used by other hunters. After this week, you will be able to direct your own family on a similar adventure. Bring your GPS to camp if you have one. Camp requires physical activity. Students will be doing a lot of walking. Cupcake Wars (Ages 7-10) Do you love to make cupcakes and watch cupcake wars on the Food Network? In this amazing camp, you can let your imagination and creativity run wild as you discover how to use icing, flavorings, candy clay, gum paste, decorations and candies and turn them into creations of art! Each day you will be given a theme. On the final day, we will have our very own cupcake wars. Teams will create a business name and a logo. Are you up for the challenge? Aprons will be provided. Minecraft Modders Use your favorite game to learn the basic of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods! Introductory coding will also be taught through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft. Student projects will be available on a Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. To access their project at home, students must have a PC/MAC version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years. NO AFTER CARE AVAILABLE FOR THIS CAMP. IMPORTANT INFORMATION! Camps fill up fast, so don’t forget to register at stchas.edu/learnforlife. At the time of registration, you will be able to fill out the emergency contact form that is a mandatory requirement for participating in summer camps online. For important camp information, a parent information packet can be downloaded at www.stchas.edu/learnforlife. Click on summer camps then follow the underlined link at the top of the page. The packet includes everything you need to know about your camps. Camps that have low enrollment will cancel one week prior to the start date of camp and full refunds issued. Most camps are held at SCC but there are three other locations this year. Look at the off-site location camps after the Table of Contents for details. There will be no before and after care for off-site camps. If your child has been prescribed an Epi-Pen or inhaler and can self-medicate, a doctor’s signature is required which can be found in the emergency form. If your child is in a half-day camp, students must be registered in lunch supervision where our staff supervises and escorts them to lunch and afternoon camp. If your child needs before- and/or after-care, you also will need to register. Spaces fill up fast! Safety, fun and learning are our top priority!

Woodworking (Middle School) IF Discover how to design and make wood projects you and your family will love! Students will work with woodworking tools, laser cutters, stain, paint and more. Create projects such as birdhouses, picture frames, jewelry coasters, books covers and whatever else your imagination can create. Class is held at the Economic Development Center in Cottleville. Some of the camps will be using fresh produce and herbs from the gardens there to not only enhance flavors, but kids will learn about healthy cooking too! Minecraft Designers If you love the game Minecraft and always wanted to design your own world, this camp is for you! Learn how to create a custom map, the basics of creating 3D models using a new software to design your very own objects, how to build with Redstone and Command blocks, and create custom textures for you to import at home or share with friends. To access their project at home, students must own a PC/MAC version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Parent email address is required to use 3D modeling software. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Some of the camp highlights will be: experiencing nursing labs and medical office assistant labs doing hands-on activities you would perform as a nurse or medical office assistant, make care packs for a nursing home resident or pediatric patient to brighten their day, learn about what it takes to make our bodies healthy through fun activities and games, learn about many different health careers including Energy Medical Services Careers. Lego Robotic Beginning Engineering (Ages 9-14) Take your engineering skills to a new level using LEGO Mindstorms Robotics using We Do and EV3 kits. Discover the challenges that make robotics technology accessible using problem- solving techniques. Create your robot using basic computer programming, principles of simple and complex machines, gearing and your own creativity. Teams will attempt to exploit the design weaknesses or incidental mechanical advantage of their opponents' robots. A perfect blend of math, science and fun! CSI: Mystery to Trial (Ages 9-12) Step into the shoes of a crime scene investigator. A mystery needs to be solved! Working together as a Crime Scene Unit, you will take crime scene photographs, search for clues and start a case file to keep track of the evidence. Learn real procedures for collecting fingerprints and analyzing DNA, put clues together and interview witnesses to find the truth of the mystery. A mock trial will be held on the final day of camp. Discover how forensic experts and witnesses testify in court. Play the jury, decide whether the evidence was properly handled, and deliver a verdict. 6/10-6/14

Minecraft Modders CHL Use your favorite game to learn the basic of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods! Introductory coding will also be taught through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft. Student projects will be available on a Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Because St. Charles Community College Continuing Education (non-credit) classes are self-supporting, the decision to run a class is based on the number of people enrolled. The college reserves the right to cancel if sufficient enrollment is not achieved. Registrations need to be received at least one week prior to the start of class to be considered in the determination of whether to cancel the class. An attempt will be made to notify registrants by phone or mail if a class is cancelled. Full refunds will be issued for classes cancelled by the college.

Events which may require more advanced notice to cancel include, but are not limited to, certain business and industry classes, conferences, trips, day trips and other special events. Inclement Weather Policy: In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergencies, the SCC president may cancel classes and close the campus for a partial or full day. The college will update the SCC website (stchas. edu) and main number 636-922-8000, send a text message through the Emergency Alert System, and contact selected radio and television stations, when the timing of conditions allow, by 5:30 a.m. for day classes and no later than 4 p.m. for evening classes (if bad weather develops during the day). The college will typically update the college website and main number prior to contacting the selected radio and television stations.
