UNDERSTAND WHAT BULLYING IS NOT
Bullying is systematically and chronically inflicting physical hurt and/or psychological distress on another.
Conflict is a normal part of growing up, bullying is not. Can you distinguish bullying from normal conflict?
Bullying Behavior:
The student doing the bullying:
• Has the intent to harm
• Picks on their target day after day (repetition).
• Is repeated • Has a real or perceived imbalance of power.
• Wins because their target is smaller, younger, or less socially able to cope (power imbalance). • Enjoys seeing the target afraid and upset (intent to harm).
CYBERBULLYING is the term applied to bullying over the Internet, via email, text messaging, and similar technological modes of communication. Cyber bullying includes sending or posting harmful material or engaging in other forms of social aggression. This form of bullying can occur well beyond the school grounds. When learning is interrupted due to cyber bullying, the school will investigate the incident whether it occurred on or off school grounds.

FIVE ACTIONS FAMILIES CAN TAKE TO HELP ELIMINATE BULLYING From The Bully Project
Who school? What did you do at recess? Who did you have lunch with? Learn what bullying is and what it is not. This will help you to form a plan with your child to prevent and respond to bullying.
Some possible signs are: Frequent loss of personal belongings. Complaints of headaches or stomachaches.
Your child needs to hear from you explicitly that it’s not normal, okay or tolerable for them to bully, to be bullied or to stand by and just watch other kids be bullied. Encourage your child to use the Stop, Walk and Talk response and to help others use it as well. If you suspect that your child is being bullied at school, contact your child’s teacher or principal.
Monitor your child’s Internet world. Teach your child how to be a responsible cyber
