Globe Theatre on Tour presents

HAMLET by William Shakespeare The Globe Theatre returns to St Donats Arts Centre with a raw, thrillingly elemental production of this inexhaustible play, widely acclaimed in 2011 both on tour and at the Globe. Learning of the king his father’s death, Hamlet comes home to find his uncle married to his mother and installed on the Danish throne. At night, the ghost of the old king demands that Hamlet avenge his ‘foul and most unnatural murder’.

Encompassing political intrigue and sexual obsession, philosophical reflection and violent actions, tragic depth and wild humour, Hamlet is Shakespeare’s ‘poem unlimited’, a colossus in the story of the English language and the fullest expression of Shakespeare’s genius. The lawns will be open before hand to enjoy a pre-performance picnic for a perfect summer’s outing. Please make sure you bring your own seating! Nick Davies

John Briggs ‘Atlantic College : ‘Early Days’ 1964-66’ An exhibition of photographs by John Briggs, an American student at Atlantic College from 1964-1966.

From spending many years in the media industry, Nick Davies has returned to focussing her attention to returning to her love of landscape painting. Here, in this exhibition you will see her exploration of coastline, from large, dramatic landscapes to looking at the more intricate side of coastal life. Inspired by the impact of light in nature, these landscapes display the artist’s use of vibrant colour and texture within these expressive oil paintings.

The images include staff, students in original school uniform, their spare-time destinations, sailing and rescue activities, and the castle and college buildings before expansion. John now lives in Newport and has published three photo-documentaries, two on Cardiff and one on Newport.
