RACHEL - MUSIC

YOUNG ENTERPRISE - BUSINESS

Rachel (Year 11) has passed her piano diploma and can now officially put the title DipABRSM after her name.

The Young Enterprise team, ‘Superfruitz’, have been selling their healthy eating reward charts at the Family Society Quiz and Greenwich Market.

IZZY - DRAMA

RUBY - MUSIC

Izzy (Year 12) has been accepted into the Youth Music Theatre with an unconditional early offer. Izzy has also been cast in the BYMT OffWest End production of Dogfight.

Ruby (Year 7) has been accepted into the London Youth Choir, alongside fellow members Alice and Molly (Year 7).

BETH - MUSIC

OTTELIE - SPORT

Beth (Year 10) passed her Grade 8 ABRSM Singing with Distinction.

Ottilie (Year 10) finished 2nd at the ESAA as part of the London Squad.

UKMT MATHS CHALLENGE - ACADEMIC

PIETER - SPORT

The SDC Maths Team – Aqil (Year 9), Florence (Year 9), Bjorn (Year 8) and Adam (Year 8) performed admirably in a tough field and finished 9th place in the UKMT Team Maths Challenge.

Senior Hockey Squad member Pieter (Year 12) has been selected to be part of the Kent U18s and will feature in fixtures against other counties throughout the remainder of the season.

MUSIC

Year 3 & Year 5 Instrumental Concert The Prep instrumental concert entertained guests with a variety of superb performances from pupils in Years 3 and 5.

Chamber Strings Ensemble Many members of the audience commented on the superb playing of the Chamber Strings Ensemble at the AGM of the Ravensbourne Valley Preservation Society.

Year 12 & 13 Composer Workshop Music A Level students had an insightful workshop with film composer, Michael Omer.

Year 10 Gamelan workshop Year 10 music GCSE students responded imaginatively at the Gamelan workshop at the Horniman Museum.

Parade The ambitious project of staging Leo Franc’s traumatic story on the prestigious stage of the Greenwich Theatre was a wonderful and moving spectacle.

ART

JS LAMDA Pupils from Year One to Year Six entertained us with fun poems on spiders and bubble gum at the first SDC Junior School LAMDA Showcase.

Year 12 & 13 Saatchi Gallery Year 12 & 13 artists witnessed an excellent display of contemporary work at the Saatchi Gallery.

Year 8 National Gallery Year 8 travelled to the National Portrait Gallery for their talk on Still Life.

Year 12 & 13 Rauschenburg

7F and 7G Courtauld Gallery

Year 12 and 13 were thoroughly impressed by the Rauschenberg exhibition at the Tate Modern Gallery.

7F and 7G enjoyed the work presented at the Courtauld Gallery.

RN Section - Afloat Day

CCF Biennial Inspection

CCF

Bronze 34 Year 10 students successfully completed the bronze qualifying expedition in the Ashdown Forest.

Gold Seven former students will be receiving their Gold Award at Buckingham Palace in April.

RN Section - Royal Navy School of Maritine Survivability Year 9 and Year 10 cadets of the CCF RN Section joined forces with Sea Cadets from South West London at the Maritime School of Survivability (PHOENIX), Portsmouth

The CCF Naval Cadets (Years 10 and 12) enjoyed an unusual bout of sunshine and light winds for their ‘afloat field day’ at a new venue, Southmere Boating Centre, Thameside.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

RN Section - London Naval Challenge The CCF Naval cadets enjoyed a day out on a naval themed scavenger hunt in London with clues that took them from Admiralty Arch and Trafalgar Square to Pepys Place, Trinity Square and Captain Bligh’s house/ Imperial War Museum.

Easter Tea Party

Students from Year 7 to Year 13 have been visiting people living in the local community and organising social activities for older people.

10I organised another event for Fieldside Care Home residents for Easter. The event included an egg hunt and a quiz.

The CCF passed the biennial inspection with flying colours, our Inspection Officer, Col Crispin Lockhart commented on how impressed he was with both the standard of drill during the march past and the enthusiasm shown during the afternoon stands by all the cadets on parade.

Seniors Lewisham Spanish Lessons

Our linguists Emilie and Alex (Year 12) have continued teaching Spanish to adults living in the local community. They have covered various topics such as greetings, numbers and directions, and students are making good progress.

Our volunteers have been committed to creating a fun environment for children from the local area, taking part in a variety of indoor activities.

Junior Swimming Squad The Junior Swimming Squad edged out Colfe’s and Eltham College to win the London League B Final.

U12 Rugby Sevens Festival

Southwark Road Racing Championships

The inaugural St Dunstan’s College U12 Sevens Tournament was hosted at the Jubilee Ground. Lots of lessons were learnt as our boys finished 4th.

Josh (Year 9) and Sofia (Year 10) both won the Southwark Road Racing Championships and will go on to represent London at the English Schools.

Bath Cup

U12 Football - National Small Schools Cup

The St Dunstan’s swimmers put in outstanding performances at the Bath Cup, with the highlight being the Girls’ Squad achieving 4th place finishes in the Freestyle and Medley Relays.

The U12 Footballers set a College record, reaching the last 32 of the National Small Schools Cup. Midfielder Nathan (Year 7) also continues to represent Charlton as a part of their Academy.

Year 5 British Museum

The enthusiastic and inquisitive 9F discovered plenty on their award-winning, fully guided tour of Wembley Stadium.

Year 11 Economics students at the Bank of England museum, learnt about FISCAL policy, money and the role of the Bank.

The Year 3 and 4 pupils were kept in suspense by Iron Man puppets and a space-bat-angel-dragon from outer space during the fantastic performance of The Iron Man at The Unicorn.

Year 5 delved further into the importance of mythology and the gods of Olympus during their trip to the British Museum.

The Animal Man

Year 2 enjoyed role-playing characters from the Great Fire of London during their visit to St Paul’s Cathedral.

Year 7 students enjoyed Andrew Smith’s Minibeast workshop, exploring evolution through different types of animals.

TRIPS

Year 3 Science Museum Year 3 felt the force during their visit to the Science Museum as part of their ‘Forces and Magnets’ science topic.

Ski Trip 2017 Sun, ski and snow. From beginners to experts, all the students enjoyed the breath-taking views and excellent conditions in Andorra during the Ski Trip in February half-term.

Lent 2017

Year 12 and Year 13 Business students visited the Coca Cola bottling plant in Sidcup where they had an interesting talk on the company’s marketing and operations, followed by a factory tour.

During their trip to Burgundy, Year 6 children enjoyed practising their language skills in a variety of contexts, which included baking a local dessert following a French recipe.

EVENTS Opening Minds Lecture: Fiona Anderson The’ Opening Minds’ lecture series welcomed an array of guest speakers including Nathan Feldman, Andrew Johnstone, Dr Dominic Cottrell, Sian Thomas and Fiona Anderson from Amnesty International.

Junior School Disco Thanks to the Family Society volunteers, the disco room was exceptional, decorated with disco lights, delicious and healthy snacks and drinks for the energetic little dancers, a state-ofthe-art photobooth, complete with props and hats; a big music console and a great DJ, who played a tailor-made compilation, put together by the parents with the kids’ latest music taste.

Travelling Book Sale With hundreds of students eagerly choosing new books to read for World Book Day, we sold books worth £619.45, which gave us a brilliant £311.67 commission to spend on new fiction books.

World Book Day Junior School got creative by designing hats related to a literary character, making their own characters out of fruit and vegetables.

SDC Family Society Parent Quiz Night The SDC Family Society Quiz Night, hosted by the spectacular Quiz Master Mr Wood, was an amazing success. Congratulations to the Headmaster’s team ‘Ten Heads are Better than 2’ for coming first.

Prefects Go – Karting The prefects enjoyed their Lent term treat for all their hard work across the year last night - Go-karting at TeamSport Tower Bridge.
