WILLOW - DRAMA

MICHAEL - DRAMA

Willow (Year 9) successfully auditioned for the Centre for Advanced Training at Laban Conservatoire of Dance - one of nine centres in the country that train students from 13 to 18 intending to pursue a career in dance.

Michael (Year 10) has been accepted as a member of the National Youth Theatre.

GEOGRAPHY - ACADEMIC

BASE - ACADEMIC

Dr Preece had an article published in Teaching Geography, the magazine for the Geographical Association, on Bringing the atmosphere to life in the classroom, about inspirational and creative approaches to teaching weather in secondary schools.

Tobi, Anna, Emily, Zac, Ade and Zack (Year 13) competed in the London heat of BASE 2016, successfully winning the first round to finish in the top four.

YOUNG ENTERPRISE - BUSINESS

HANS WOYDA - ACADEMIC

The Young Enterprise team have spent this term setting up Super Fruitz and are currently finalising the design for their sticker wall chart. The product aims to encourage children to monitor the amount of fruit and vegetables they eat by using superhero fruit character stickers.

The SDC Hans Woyda team - Ricardo (Year 13), Bryant (Year 12), Neal (Year 10), Nikki (Year 10), Aqil (Year 9), Bjorn (Year 8), Adam (Year 8) won every group stage match finishing top of the group and are through to the next round of the competition.

IZZY - DRAMA

GABRIEL - SPORT

Izzy (Year 12) has been accepted as a member of the Advanced Bromley Youth Musical Theatre Trust.

Gabriel (Year 11) has progressed to the next stage of regional ice hockey trials.

FRANKIE - SPORT

TOBY - SPORT

Frankie (Year 7) won bronze in the asymmetric bars and in the beam at the Gems Invitational Gymnastics.

Toby (Year 3) has been invited to train with the GB ski trainers.

TARGET 2.0 - BUSINESS

TOMI - ACADEMIC

The St Dunstan’s Target 2.0 team - Long, Ben, Eoin, Alivia (Year 13) competed in the regional heats.

Tomi (Year 9) achieved first place at the Southwark Library Creative Writing competition.

A Night at the Movies A packed audience were thoroughly entertained by the diversity, quality and élan of music-making, set against the backdrop of a ‘night at the movies’.

All Hallows Harvest Festival The first outing for Chapel Choir this year was to All Hallows’ by the Tower for their harvest service in early October.

Chamber Concert Brass and woodwind players contributed to a rich and varied programme of music at St Augustine’s, Honor Oak Park.

House Drama House drama proved another highlight of the House Activities calendar, enthralling audiences with engaging performances from the Lower School, ably led by Sixth Form directors.

Shakespeare Schools’ Festival An exceptional production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream was one of many highlights at this year’s Shakespeare Schools’ Festival in the Catford Broadway.

ART

Breakfast at Tiffany’s One of many theatre trips that has taken place this term.

Year 2 National Portrait Gallery 2T learnt about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole from their portraits at the National Portrait Gallery.

Sixth Form Courtauld Gallery Trip Year 12 and 13 were mesmerized by the artwork at the Courtauld Gallery.

CCF

Bronze 1 34 Year 10 students successfully completed the bronze qualifying expedition in the Ashdown Forest.

Gold

Lewisham Remembrance Parade

Students successfully passed the training element of their expedition section. Next step is the Peak District and their practise at Easter.

St Dunstan’s College was the largest unit on parade at this year’s Remembrance Service in Lewisham.

British Heart Foundation

Volunteering students in Years 10 - 13 have visited a local primary school every week to help young children develop their reading skills.

Students in Years 7 to 9 have joined the catering team every week to prepare delicious meals and have learnt great cooking tips from our top chefs.

Sixth Form National Portrait Gallery The Art Department travelled to the National Portrait Gallery to witness the wonder of Picasso’s Portraits.

Year 13 visit to RA Year 13 artists responded imaginatively to their visit to the Royal Academy to further investigate abstract expressionism.

CHARITY

Macmillan Afternoon Tea and Cake Sale Over £1700 was raised at our Macmillan Afternoon Tea and Cake sale.

Sport Relief A grand total of £11,452.89 was raised! A record year for sport relief at St Dunstan.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Michaelmas 2016

Emily (Year 13) has volunteered for the British Heart Foundation charity shop in Catford.

Spanish Lessons Two keen linguists in Year 12 have given beginner level Spanish lessons to a group of adults.

Visiting the Elderly A group of international students have visited a nearby care home once weekly.

U13A Rugby

Cross Country

The runners thoroughly enjoyed their races and displayed determination and a great competitive spirit.

Multi-sport is taking off at SDC - congratulations to the Junior School biathlon squad and the three athletes from the Senior School who received top ten placings in the London League: Lottie (Year 9), Oscar (Year 9) and Ottilie (Year 10).

The U13 visited the Fylde coast for pre – season training and went on to win all but one of their fixtures this season.

Runners from SDC won rounds at the Greenwich and Lewisham Cross Country league at all levels.

U12 Netball

U12 and U13 swim squads qualified for the final of the London League.

U12 made a great start to the season after a hard fought 2 – 0 win at the Highgate tournament.

Sixth Form Bushcraft Weekend

Year 3 went to The Creekside Discovery Centre, at Deptford Creek as part of their topic on The River Thames.

Year 5 learnt about Victorian artefacts, explored significant Victorian sites and even experienced a Victorian school at Horton Kirby.

Year 12 students visited Hatfield Woods to take part in a weekend of Bushcraft team building activities.

Year 5 Science Museum

Judo was introduced as a new option in the Forder Programme.

Tag Rugby St Dunstan’s hosted a Tag Rugby festival, with schools from across South London attending.

1st VII Netball The 1st VII netballers got-off to a flying start in their first match vs Bromley High, winning 14-8.

County Rugby A record year as more boys than ever were selected for the county squad, with six players from Years 7 – 10.

TRIPS

Year 4 were lucky enough to visit the Royal Albert Hall to watch the Primary Proms.

31 eager minds visited many historical and archaeological sites in Greece.

Year 5 explored and experimented in the wonderlab at the Science Museum.

Year 7 Bushcraft Trip Year 7 learnt plenty of useful survival tips and teamwork skills at their Bushcraft weekend.

Year 4 Wide Horizons Year 4 really enjoyed making use of the beautiful natural resources at the Wide Horizons Environmental Centre as part of their habitats topic.

Year 4 Natural History Museum

GCSE, AS and A Level Art Trip to Madrid

Year 4 enjoyed their time at the Natural History museum.

Art students from Years 10 to 13 travelled to Madrid for two nights to visit some world famous art galleries and experience the amazing city.

EVENTS Junior School Harvest Festival The Junior School had a wonderful time giving thanks in our Harvest Festival at St Lawrence’s Church Catford.

Opening Minds Lecture Heidi Alexander MP The new Opening Minds Lecture Series saw its first external speaker, Heidi Alexander MP.

Year 9 Handicap International Year 9 learnt about all the valuable work undertaken by Handicap International across the world.

Festival of Nine Lessons

A good night was had by all at the Sixth Form Quiz Night.

Careers and Higher Education Convention Our students really appreciated the advice received at the Careers and Higher Education Convention.

Spanish Exchange Year 10 students hosted Spanish exchange students from SEK Colgeio Internacional, Pontevedra, Galicia.

Red and Blue Tie Dinner

SDC Voices, Chapel Choir, Year 7, Prep Chamber Choir, Flute and Brass Ensembles all played their part in a roofraising start to the Christmas festivities.

The Old Dunstonian’s Association hosted a dinner for the red and blue tie prefect team at the Oriental club.

Remembrance Day Service

SDCFS Cheese and Wine Evening

The College community gathered for a moving service remembering, in particular, the Old Dunstonians who gave their lives in the service of their country.

The SDC Family Society Cheese and Wine evening provided the opportunity for new parents to meet and mingle with staff and current parents.

SDCFS Alternative Christmas Market

Nursery and Reception Christmas Celebration

A record number of visitors sought festive fun at the alternative Christmas market.

Nursery and Reception taught us that everyone feels better when they’re dancing with their wonderful christmas performances.
