Extending north from Steamboat Springs, the Elk River Valley drains the west side of the Park Range and the Mount Zirkel Wilderness. The Elk River is a main tributary of the Yampa River, which drains the majority of Northwest Colorado. North Routt County and the Elk River Valley sit at about 7,000 ft in elevation.
