CAREER FOCUS WITH LEO CARR, ST EDMUND'S GRADUAND 2020

After being given months of ‘free time’ in March 2020 as the world locked down and A-Levels were cancelled, I decided to use some skills I had learned during my time at St Edmund’s to help future students. Studying A-Level Politics, I was unable to find online revision resources and tools, and after exams were cancelled, I found myself with an abundance of revision notes, completed essays and worksheets to hand, and didn’t know what to do with them. Using the spare time I had during lockdown, I built a website using skills I learned completing MOOCs at St Edmund’s, started a marketing campaign and began selling A-Level Politics resources online. I now balance my time between my university work and working on my website.

The experience has opened many doors for me. I have recently won funding through my University’s Student Start-up programme, and have met a range of influential figures, including the CEO of Tutor2u, the Head of Santander Universities and a former winner of BBC’s The Apprentice. There are always opportunities out there, and my advice to anyone wanting to start their own business is to find a problem you are facing and try and fill the gap.
