THE POSITION VISION & VALUES
The Director of Teaching and Learning is an exemplary classroom practitioner and a member of the College Senior Leadership Team. This leadership position is directly responsible to the Deputy Principal for the supervision of Teaching and Learning and leading the College Learning Agenda in the context of a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition.
The role of the Director of Teaching and Learning is to promote the College and Edmund Rice ethos by promoting current educational practices. This position maintains the responsibility for leading the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the College’s learning agenda in alignment with the St Edward’s College Aspiration Statement.
The Director of Teaching and Learning is also an outstanding teacher in his/her subject areas in terms of knowledge of content, current contemporary educational research in teaching methodology, classroom management, methods of evaluation and professional development.

The Director of Teaching and Learning models the vision and values of the College by:

In collaboration with the College Principal, the Director of Teaching and Learning will be central to the design, implementation and leadership of the College Strategic Improvement Plan and Annual Strategic Goals specifically as they relate to the Colleges teaching and learning agenda. This includes:
STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP
• Developing a yearly plan which aligns with specific responsibilities of the Annual School Improvement Plan.
• Report regularly to the Principal and members of the Senior Leadership Team on progress made in relation to this plan.
• Participating in an annual Strategic Plan evaluation and goal setting process with members of the Senior Leadership Team.
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
• Demonstrating outstanding modelling in relation to their own Professional Learning as outlined in their own Professional Learning Plan and through participation in the Professional Learning Partnership Framework (PLP).
• Participating in a significant Professional Learning or Leadership Experience within the term of their contract. It is assumed this experience will be linked with the role and
shared with colleagues. In addition, they are expected to attend relevant Professional Learning Conferences.
• Leading and participating in the Professional Review of Leaders of Learning.
• Experiencing a Professional Review in the third year of their current contract. Each year, they will participate in an Annual Professional Discussion with the Principal and Deputy Principal.
• Providing a receptive and confidential environment for staff members who wish to discuss aspects of their professional lives.
• Collaborating with colleagues to ensure the vision and values of the College are implemented within the classroom.
• Ensuring that the Principal is informed of staff wellbeing matters where appropriate.
LEADING LEARNING
• Collaborating with the Senior Leadership Team, the Leaders of Learning and members of the teaching staff to develop and implement a best practice teaching, learning and assessment paradigm across Years 7 to 12 that aligns closely with the College Aspiration Statement.
• Providing high level guidance and support to the Leader of Diverse Learning in the development and implementation of student Individual Education Plans and the completion of the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data funding application.
• Working collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team, middle leaders and teaching staff in the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the College’s Literacy and Numeracy plan.
• Leading the professional learning for staff using a range of data (including PAT and CogAT Testing, NAPLAN, ROSA, HSC and student assessment data) to monitor and assess student learning growth, and to inform curriculum and teaching and learning.
• Contributing significantly to staff development programs including staff development days, PLP’s and staff meetings.
• Remaining current with contemporary educational learning competencies and using relevant technologies to enhance learning.
• Working collaboratively with the Principal and Senior Leadership Team members in leading the College Learning Agenda and Learner Profile.
• In conjunction with the Deputy Principal and Director of Curriculum lead the development of a whole school approach to building students’ autonomy as learners, and to teaching students the skills and behaviours of effective learners.
• Providing critical input into the professional development strategic directions of the College and collaborating with the Director of Professional Learning, in leading staff in deepening their practice in relation to the College’s implementation of the Contemporary Learning teaching methodologies.
• Modelling innovative learning, teaching and assessment practices in the classroom.
• Providing leadership support for the development, implementation and evaluation of the student achievement and implements programs designed to improve student achievement consistent with the goals and priorities of the Strategic Improvement Plan.
• Working with the Director of Curriculum and Leaders of Learning, in developing and implementing teaching, feedback and assessment practices which address the learning needs of all students.
• Collaborating with the Deputy Principal and Director of Curriculum to provide high level professional support for Leaders of Learning to enhance their skills, knowledge and confidence in developing, and consistently implementing high quality standards and outcomes-based curriculum and assessment programs across all Key Learning Areas.
• Providing leadership support for staff to integrate the use of effective digital technologies to enhance student learning.
• Working with Leaders of Learning and teachers in the implementation of contemporary approaches to extend high potential learners.
• Continuing the evaluation of assessment practices used across the school and provide leadership for Leaders of Learning and staff to improve assessment practices consistent with the Teaching and Learning Framework and the standards.
• Working collaboratively with the Director of Administration and teaching staff on the implementation of online Literacy and Numeracy Testing.
• Providing a detailed analysis of the NAPLAN results to the College Senior Leadership Team and College Advisory Council with a growth implementation strategy based on this data.
• In conjunction with the Deputy Principal, providing a detailed analysis of the HSC results to the College Senior Leadership Team and College Advisory Council.
• Providing teaching staff with student data to inform teaching and learning.
• Any other duties as directed by the Principal.
PERSONAL QUALITIES, SOCIAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
• Demonstrating a high level of emotional intelligence, empathy and resilience.
• Demonstrating ethical practices and has exceptional social skills to deal with conflict effectively.
• Actively participating in the strategic leadership of the College through regular reporting at Senior Leadership Team and on request College Advisory Council meetings.
• Liaising with the Director of Curriculum, Director of Professional Learning and Leaders of Learning on matters associated with teacher allocation.
• Consulting with the Leader of Diverse Learning and teaching staff who have concerns about student learning needs, or aspects of the teaching programs and students at the College.
• Liaising with the Director of Curriculum and Director of Professional Learning and Leaders of Learning on action research projects that promote teacher professional learning and improve student outcomes.
• Working with the Deputy Principal to coordinate College Registration and Accreditation and the Annual School Report as appropriate.
• Working closely with other Senior Leadership members in the organisation and supervision of students at all major College events.
• Communicating with and presenting to parents on matters associated with the development of Literacy and Numeracy.
• Communicating with parents and students on information regarding online Literacy and Numeracy Testing.
• Liaising with the Principal and relevant Leaders of Learning team members to provide quality and engaging Enrichment Days for feeder primary school students.
• Liaising with the Principal, Deputy Principal and Director of Curriculum in the analysis of all data including PAT and CogAT Testing, NAPLAN, ROSA, HSC, student assessment data and Higher School Certificate results in order to generate and implement relevant recommendations.
• Working with the Leader of Learning Team and teaching staff to implement recommendations from data analysis into quality teaching programs.
Ultimately the Director of Teaching and Learning is responsible to the Principal, who may vary the above duties from time to time, may ask the Director to take on other duties, or become involved in across curriculum issues.
