Outdoor recreation

What types of assessment will be used to determine your final mark? Students will complete a range of class-based practical and theoretical assessments as well as the submission of online courses.

Is there anything else you should know? Students are required to wear a school sports shirt for the practical component of their course. This can be purchased through Cowan and Lewis and is an additional cost to the course.

OUTDOOR RECREATION FACULTY: PDHPE ATAR: No UNITS: 2 CATEGORY: BEC

On successful completion of this course, students will be awarded A Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation.

There are NO trial or HSC exams for this course.

What will be taught? The Outdoor Recreation Curriculum Framework is designed for students who are active, enjoy the outdoors, have effective communication, and enjoy working with people. It is an opportunity for students to improve their fitness and environmental knowledge, learn about the sports & health industry and be able to implement this knowledge in a creational setting. Students will be on twoto-five-day camp, once a semester, where all their course content will be delivered.

Core units covered in the course are:

• Provide First Aid • Minimise environmental impact • Follow occupational health and safety policies • Assist in conducting outdoor recreation sessions • Work effectively in sport and recreation environments

Other potential activities undertaken include:

Bushwalking, navigation skills, canoeing, fishing, surfing, or cycling.

Assessment: This course is competency based and the student’s performance is assessed against prescribed industry standards. Assessment methods may include: Observation, Student demonstration, questioning, written tasks, and quizzes. All assessment will be completed on camps unless specified by the trainer/teacher.

Career pathways: Potential career pathways: Leisure Facility Assistant, Community Recreation Activity Assistant, Customer Service Assistant, Aquatic Leisure Centre Assistant and Retail Assistant.
