On successful completion of this course, students will be awarded A Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation. There are NO trial or HSC exams for this course. What will be taught? The Outdoor Recreation Curriculum Framework is designed for students who are active, enjoy the outdoors, have effective communication, and enjoy working with people. It is an opportunity for students to improve their fitness and environmental knowledge, learn about the sports & health industry and be able to implement this knowledge in a creational setting. Students will be on twoto-five-day camp, once a semester, where all their course content will be delivered. Core units covered in the course are: •

Provide First Aid

Minimise environmental impact

Follow occupational health and safety policies

Assist in conducting outdoor recreation sessions

Work effectively in sport and recreation environments

Other potential activities undertaken include: Bushwalking, navigation skills, canoeing, fishing, surfing, or cycling. Assessment: This course is competency based and the student’s performance is assessed against prescribed industry standards. Assessment methods may include: Observation, Student demonstration, questioning, written tasks, and quizzes. All assessment will be completed on camps unless specified by the trainer/teacher. Career pathways: Potential career pathways: Leisure Facility Assistant, Community Recreation Activity Assistant, Customer Service Assistant, Aquatic Leisure Centre Assistant and Retail Assistant.
