Introducing a New Society for Today’s Visionaries

Benefitting College and Community

Standing in a grove near Nazareth College’s eastern boundary, the Council Oak is a graceful reminder of stability and growth on the bustling campus grounds. Generations of students have come to study and reflect under its leafy canopy.

YOUR SUPPORT helps us add student scholarships, attract qualified faculty, enhance curriculum, improve library services, keep pace with technology, and upgrade campus facilities. The impact of your gifts — like the shade of the Council Oak — will span the generations and transform values into action. Your support funds:

Throughout its 80-year history, Nazareth has stood for ideals represented by the Council Oak’s arching branches: beauty, determination, perseverance, and the knowledge that something mighty can come from something small. The College’s founders, five visionary women who understood the need for better access to higher education, planted Nazareth’s roots deep in the soil. The fruits of their labor have turned dreams into reality for thousands of students by placing a college degree within reach. In honor of those early leaders—and all those who followed—Nazareth College invites you to become a charter member of the Council Oak Society recognizing, as our founders did, the impact that today’s support will have on tomorrow’s scholars.

Opportunity Nazareth educates students who traditionally have not been able to attend college: 40 percent of our undergraduates are the first in their families to attend college, and nearly 100 percent rely on scholarship assistance. Productivity Within a year of graduation, 93 percent of undergraduates are employed or enrolled in graduate school. Our graduates go on to study at major research institutions, including the University of North Carolina and Syracuse University, and work for leading employers such as Xerox Corporation and Paychex, Inc. Leadership Since 1999, 12 undergraduates and five faculty members have received prestigious Fulbright Scholarships — such as E.J. Monster, ’99, an officer in the U.S. diplomatic corps, and Dr. Shannon Bice Olsson, ’99, who is on the staff of the Department of Evolutionary Neuroethology at Germany’s Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology. Service The College’s clinical programs provide care for more than 300 on-site and 3,000 off-site underserved individuals annually while offering real-world experience for our clinicians-in-training. Nazareth graduates fill critical teaching jobs in the region’s schools and alleviate shortages in health care. Arts and Culture Nearly 75,000 people – students, community members, school children – benefit each year from the internationally-renowned performing groups who visit our Arts Center, ranked ninth in the country by the prestigious Princeton Review. These factors have helped Nazareth earn national recognition; we were recently one of only four American colleges and universities added to the Princeton Review’s The Best 368 Colleges.

Giving Across The Generations #3 “Scholarships have a ripple effect across generations. If we can enable more students to attend college, we increase the chances that their children and grandchildren will attend.” President Daan Braveman #3 A LEADERSHIP GIFT TO Nazareth College resonates deeply with students who attend the College now. But Nazareth will continue to welcome new students, who are shaped and guided by the actions of their parents, grandparents, and all those who came before them - who were themselves guided by their own experience of Nazareth’s excellence. These generations to come will reap the benefits of your gift of education well into the future. With your membership gift to the Council Oak Society, you support students who will, because of your generosity, become the visionaries and leaders of our society in the future. Enjoy the Benefits of Leadership By joining the Society before September 30, 2009, you will become part of a cohort designated as Lifetime Charter Members. This select group will serve as an inspiration to countless others. As a Society member, you earn a place at select campus events, receive recognition both on campus and in our publications, and are kept up-to-date on milestones and plans at the College.
