Our Arts Center welcomes 75,000 annually to the area’s premier mid-size theater, while the Rochester Children’s Theatre reaches 20,000 youngsters through performances and classes. A Good Citizen Whether providing free rehabilitative health services to nearly 1,000 people a year, or organizing volunteers at Clairvaux Farm, Nazareth sets the bar high for civic engagement. Our focus on service attracts the best partners: Our work with Xerox and Kodak made science magic for scores of 5th to 9th graders attending a Harry Potterthemed summer camp, and Nazareth’s leadership helped garner $1 million in seed money for a math and science high school.

We Ask Our dreams far outstrip our current facilities; the aging infrastructure of the Callahan Theater, its inflexible design, and the lack of suitable classroom, practice, and exhibition space demand attention. We must: • Update the acoustics, lighting, seating, and stage design of the Callahan Theater, creating a traditional proscenium design more suitable to dance and a wider variety of theatrical performances. • Add new classrooms and labs for teaching and practicing therapeutic arts and create an acoustically superior student performance hall that will seat 800 people and allow choral, concert, and orchestral ensembles to perform together. • Create a secure art display space where students and community artists can learn exhibition and curatorial practices, as well as display their artwork. • Add performance and practice spaces for students in music and theatre courses. • Design and install adequate ventilation for the studio arts spaces to ensure a healthy environment.

enhancing the endowment: $25 million A strong endowment represents the difference between a good school and a great one. Good schools have select students, a solid curriculum, an engaged faculty. Great schools have the means to capitalize on them, to seize opportunities, to broaden access and diversify the student body, to enrich faculty. To innovate. To lead. To grow the College, we must grow the endowment. In quality, we are more than commensurate with our peers; in resources, we are not. The average endowment per student for peer schools is $126,000; Nazareth’s is $20,000. We narrow the gap with tuition dollars, but to be dependent on tuition is to be vulnerable to the vagaries of a fluctuating economy and changing demographics. An expanded endowment will secure our future in critical ways. Increasing Access Many Nazareth students come from families of modest means, and scholarship assistance often determines their ability
to attend college. In 2006, we provided 96 percent of our full-time undergraduates with scholarship or gift assistance. The College is committed to helping every qualified student take full advantage of the Nazareth experience. This year, doing so meant allocating nearly $12 million in institutional funds. Enhancing Faculty Nazareth expects the best from its students; with endowment funding, we ensure that faculty members are also able to give their best. Enriching faculty enriches students; we look to increase opportunities for facultystudent research, lessen teaching loads to promote scholarship, and facilitate participation in conferences, workshops, and other professional opportunities that enable faculty to remain at the top of their fields. Broadening Perspective International education and travel are hallmarks of an academic experience in a global society. Nazareth is capitalizing on the many benefits to students and faculty that result from our growing partnerships with institutions worldwide. The endow-
ment supports international enrichment programs of all kinds — from traditional study-abroad opportunities to campus visits by international scholars who broaden our thinking. Greater Engagement Nazareth College is committed to community. What students do off campus is as critical to their development as what they do on it. Increased endowment will allow us to enhance opportunities for students to engage the community, expand the service-learning component of our curriculum, and enrich our teaching through scholarship by creating a new Center for Civic Engagement. The Heritage Fund Contributions to our Heritage Fund allow us to maintain the beauty and functionality of campus buildings. Income is used for the renovation and maintenance of our architecturally notable neo-Gothic campus buildings, some of which date back to the early 1940s.

influences individual lives. The Nazareth Fund supports essential services to students, such as the First Year Program and Career Counseling Services. A much-needed source of income, the Fund buys print and electronic reference materials for our library and strongly supports athletic programming.

We seek to increase our alumni participation rate from 20 percent to 27 percent and, over the course of the campaign, make an additional $7 million available.
