633|<-()-|°()|_15 GEEK-O-POLIS Editorial I am not of the generation geek, where this word was not even de�ined, bathed in a universe of Tron, Star Trek and Goonies. These movies was nevertheless a part that people called cult movies.

First geek of the family, and the phenomenon still little spread, but close to take enormous proportions. The end of the 90s is my entrance to this strange world and vaster than the universe itself, From the Middle Earth to Tataouine, passer-by Poudlard, Gotham City and Kantô, where our beautiful blue planet was remodelled an incalculable number of time in diverse parallel universe and with in each of them a Chuck Norris which would have counted untill the in�inity … twice.

Then in the end what is a geek? To de�ine "geek" is almost impossible, because that de�inition changes as much as the last buzz of Internet. No Ladies and Gentlemen, the theory of evolution did not stop to the Home Sapiens. Since the 50s, the population mutate ceaselessly in a new unknown sort, spreading its plague with exponential speed. I did not talk about music until now, nevertheless it is a big part of the pop culture of today. But there is not in strictly spoken of geek music, in the sense where we do not create any music with, for special target, the community geek.

THE GEEK AND THE MUSIC That sounds Geek Nevertheless, there are musics created by geeks, making it consequently affiliated in geek culture.

Among it, the electro music had taken reference sounds geek to make it as sample and use them to create mashups (music mix), as numerous findable Legend of Zelda Mashup on the Internet. We shall also can count the covers and diverse sounds in homage to these references as The Gag Quartet and their Internet Medley. Always in the idea of homages and childhood memories, certain groups create their own music, I shall quote for example: The ultimate showdown from Albino Black Sheep, Game one of the casting from the webseries The Guild or still Zombie Me from No More Heroes.

And in the middle of that is a very specific music, the chiptune. The chiptune is a spacial type of music. It is based on sythesized sounds from computers and not on recordings, these sounds were at the origin of samples coming from computer chip and giving a very particular sound reminding musics as that of Tetris. Certain artists are specialized in this field as Goto80, Sexy Sushi, YMCK, Crystal Castles or still Pornophonique. Mixing the chiptune and the references geek, I shall also quote My Megadrive from 2080 and its clip reminding games just taken from the cupboard.

Dear memories

Always affiliated to the geeks, an other type of music, and not the least to quote: the OST. Meaning Original SoundTrack, the OST is musics created specially for a particular work. OST can be created for movies, series, video games â&#x20AC;Ś And there are many artists who worked above, often underestimated by the public, their works can go from the musical theme, to the complete symphony, including opening and ending (credits). - p.24 -

Some of these musics fill the heart of the geeks of melancholy and the head of memory. Among these musics Aerithâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s theme of the game Final Fantasy VII, Ziaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s theme of the game Bastion conposed by Darren Korb who will also composed for the game Transistor. The geek can get these music and to listen them on a loop while remembering itself his memories.

The music has an important part, it will give a sound atmosphere to each video and videogaming work, whose would become the hymn of it. There will be nothing more attroce for a geek than to cut the music of the first credits of pokemon at the sixth second. We understand then all the dimension of the sound and its importance, complete teams can be specially assigned to this kind of practice. In return in this, we observe the birth of concert played by real orchestras in homage to these musics.

In 2013 in London took place Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses, the same thing was made for works as Star Wars or still Final Fantasy. Hatsune Miku is rather special in its kind, because she is a Japanese humanoid possessing a sythesis voice coming from the software Vocaloid. She possesses her own concerts and her own world tours.
