INTRODUCTION Personal Tattoo Machine materializes your thoughts directly onto your skin without the need of a professional tattooist. The aim is to enhance tattoos that are not about aesthetics instead their main function is to reflect meaningful memories. It enables you to mark a significant event or period of time onto your body so it will always be with you and represents who you are. The primary goal is to give the user a quality tool that is safe and comfortable to use. -personaltattoomachine.com

BRAINSTORMING INTRODUCTION I started my process by researching the company and brainstorming twenty words that describe the product based off my research findings. The highlighted words below represent the words I thought best described the look, feel, and function of the product out of the initial twenty.

Simple Expression Belonging Meaningful Memories Significant Modern Clean Sterile Permanent

Precious Comfortable Process Identity Experience Individual Time Body Personal Reflection

Example of brainstorming process. While thinking up words I also thought about ways in which they can be visually represented

STYLE BOARD MATERIALS INTRODUCTION For my initial image research I researched what was currently being done in the branding of tattoo shops and the like, as well as searching for photos of tattoo styles that fit the simple linework tattoos that would be created with the Personal Tattoo Machine. The simple geometric tattoo style stuck out to me, as I thought it portrayed the clean, modern aesthetic of the product. Examples of simple geometric tattoo style. Modern & Clean

INTRODUCTION PTM is the perfect tool for creating simple outlines such as this geometric tattoo. While users are not limited to this style, this form relates to its modern and simple aesthetic

PROCESS SKETCHES INTRODUCTION

TIP OF MACHINE/QUOTATION MARK- thoughts, exoression

In the first stages of sketching I started exploring ways of abstracting the form of the machine to make it appear “simple“ and “modern“. I started experimenting with abstraction, which I did both on paper and on the computer, as the computer allowed for the easy use of geometric shapes.

Simplicity through the use of shapes

INTRODUCTION After exploring possible ways of abstracting the form I went back to sketching to come up with something more meaningful than simple shapes. I wanted it to reflect more about the unique quality of the product so I started entertaining the idea of brackets to represent safety and comfort while still keeping the form of the machine.

DIGITAL DEVELOPMENT INTRODUCTION The next step was to take my sketches and continue to develop them digitally through vectors and the use of potential typefaces. I continued to develop the abstract form of the machine and experimented with sans serifs to further enhance the clean, modern feel of the product. I also played with color, using it to further portray the mood of the product.

FINISHED LOGOMARK INTRODUCTION Finally, I corrected the angles on the logo to give it cleaner, more effective presence and to better align it with the typography.

CONCLUSION INTRODUCTION The final logomark is not only a rendition of simplicity but actually holds many meanings behind the product it represents. The entire logo is an abstraction of the product’s form, as it includes the square shaped portion, the needle, and the small circle form on the top. The bracket-like forms surrounding the circle act as a safe, or comforting, element, remarking on the safety and comfort a user would feel while using the product. The angle at which the form is set is indicative of the angle at which the user would hold the machine when using it. The colors are indicitive of the colors of the product and the entire form makes the letter “p“, emphasizing the personal element of the device, which is what sets it apart from other tattoo machines amd similar products on the market.
