GENTILE PARTECIPANTE, noi tutti dell’organizzazione siamo lieti di darLe il benvenuto a bioforum 2006, il terzo atto di un progetto nato originariamente con l’intento di promuovere il panorama biotech nazionale (quello lombardo in particolare) e ormai avviato a diventare una manifestazione di rilievo internazionale.

Ma non è tutto: bioforum è anche una community che vive tutto l’anno tramite il sito Internet www.bioforum.it e la newsletter bioforumnews; una community che cresce ogni giorno grazie al sempre maggiore coinvolgimento dei nuovi componenti: manager, ricercatori, operatori, etc.

Un autorevole Comitato d’Onore, il sostegno di importanti Enti Promotori, il patrocinio delle Istituzioni più significative, numerose collaborazioni italiane e internazionali, un’area espositiva altamente specializzata, convegni di grande attualità (tenuti da Moderatori e Relatori tra i più accreditati negli specifici settori), area Poster e alcune importanti Iniziative Parallele: bioforum 2006 è tutto questo e molto di più. È un’occasione di incontro, di apprendimento e di business, un’iniziativa totalmente gratuita che si svolge nella cornice di una delle sedi universitarie artisticamente più belle e scientificamente più avanzate del nostro Paese.

DEAR VISITOR, the Organization team is glad to welcome you on bioforum 2006, the third edition of a project that originally intended as an event to promote the national biotech context (with reference to the Lombardy region, in particular) has now become an initiative on an international level. An authoritative Honour Committee, the support of important Promoting Bodies, the Patronage given by famous Institutions, various national and international co-operations, a high-quality and specialized expo area, topical presentations held by Chairmen and Speakers best-known for their representative role as major players of the field, a Poster Area and some important Workshops as Collateral Events: thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Bioforum 2006, and even more. The event wants to become a place where realizing meeting and training and promoting business opportunities within the biotech field. It is a free-of charge initiative that takes place at one

of the most brilliant University in Italy, not only from an artistic point of view. What is more, bioforum is also a network operating along the whole year thanks to the web site www.bioforum.it/en and the newsletter bioforumnews; a community that grows up more and more due to the involvement of new members. LEONARDO SANTI By this time Bioforum plays a very important role within the framework of the development of biotechnology and life sciences. After the first event, Bioforum has strengthened an experience of great value, combining very qualified scientific meetings with experiences of business activities and researches carried out or under development by Universities and public and private scientific centres. By now in Italy there is the strong need for the identification of a framework for the development of biotechnology, biocomputer science and bio-nanotechnologies, which are scientific fields involving varied skills that are necessarily integrated, to achieve useful results to increase our knowledge, but at the same time to ensure their application to the productive system by means of interventions facilitating aggregations, supplying of suitable services to ensure a concrete innovative transfer. Small and Medium Enterprises, which are often considered micro-enterprises and thus not able to carry out a concrete capacity of development particularly within innovative sectors in relation to the field of biotechnology and life sciences, can represent however an essential mean due to their fast adaptability to new activity prospects, their organisational and working flexibility as well as particularly their possibility to build an immediate and integrated relationship with research structures. Clearly, at the same time some important aspects, however, have to be taken into account, for example defining synergic on-line activities among the various enterprises in relation to specif-

ic topics, and making use of both particular economic advantages and suitable services including particularly the possibility to make use of biological materials in accordance with safety rules concerning the collection, preservation and quality certification of cells, DNA, hybridoma, etc. which have been filed in such biobanks. In Italy until now, biotechnology has been considered as a task of the researchers aiming at increasing the scientific knowledge, more than an economic and employment factor of development. Therefore, in our Country a competitive industrial fabric at international level has not been achieved.

Bioforum programme is rich of contents and therefore represents an initiative which will be able to enable the Italian enterprises to be known, as well as the enterprises of other Countries to reach agreements with territorial realities of our Country. Such opportunities have been particularly appreciated by the Committee of Honour, made up of outstanding personalities from a scientific and industrial point of view and therefore concrete intervention could be carried out in a field requiring to be competitive at international level.

On the contrary, Bioforum will enable the identification of the various needs of the enterprises by means of ad hoc meetings as well as the most suitable solutions to be realised, considering that at this point each national situation has to take into account the European prospect while considering the specificities to be identified for each Country. The European Action Plan has identified precise interventions involving Governments, Regions, Universities, enterprises and the persons anyhow concerned. In Italy the National Committee for Biosafety and Biotechnology at the Presidency of the Council of the Ministers has worked out a document concerning “Guidelines for the development of biotechnology in Italy”, which has been agreed on the whole with the representatives of the Regions and is essential to try to give concrete form to one of the aims provided for in the Lisbona agreement.

SALUTO DEL PRESIDENTE DELLA REGIONE LOMBARDIA Le biotecnologie sono la nuova frontiera dell’innovazione, uno dei settori che permettono di raggiungere un progresso tecnologico e scientifico al quale non possiamo non contribuire. Per questo Bioforum 2006, che vedrà riuniti a Milano aziende da tutto il mondo per discutere e confrontarsi sul tema delle biotecnologie, è un’occasione imperdibile per tutti gli attori interessati a questo settore, a partire dalle università per arrivare fino alle imprese. Questo evento si inquadra nelle più ampie iniziative che Regione Lombardia sostiene per promuovere l’economia lombarda e sviluppare sia le tecnologie che risultano rilevanti per lo sviluppo economico, sociale e culturale della Regione stessa, sia gli aspetti prioritari per il benessere futuro (salute, food, ambiente, ecc.).

Per poter raggiungere questi obiettivi, due elementi risultano strategici: una adeguata governance del sistema, per un quadro organico di riferimento per gli attori, e strutturati strumenti finanziari, che vanno affinati e potenziati. Strumenti funzionali all’unico motore dello sviluppo che è rappresentato dall’investimento concreto sul capitale umano e sulla sua capacità di innovazione, intesa innanzitutto come quella leva della creatività che sa trasformare i processi ed i prodotti dell’ingegno umano. Solo in questo modo potremo conseguire risultati importanti, uno sviluppo non effimero, ma durevole e perciò più adeguato a creare le condizioni di benessere per la qualità della vita dei nostri cittadini.

L’innovazione, infatti, è lo strumento principale per garantire alle imprese lombarde quel livello di competitività e di crescita costantemente in ascesa in altri Paesi Europei. Il nostro obiettivo, come Regione Lombardia, è quello di porci come motore di progettualità in questo rilancio dell’innovazione lombarda e come fattore di connessione tra le diverse componenti del sistema, a partire dai cittadini fino alle istituzioni nazionali e internazionali, attraverso gli istituti di ricerca e le imprese private, che già oggi forniscono oltre due terzi dell’investimento complessivo regionale.

MESSAGE OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE REGIONE LOMBARDIA Biotechnologies are the new frontier in innovation, one of the sectors that allow us to achieve technological and scientific progress to which we cannot contribute. This is why Bioforum 2006, which includes the participation of Milan businesses from around the world in a discussion and exchange of notes on the issue of bio-technologies, is an essential appointment for players involved in this sector, from universities to the business world. This event is part of a larger initiative that the Region of Lombardy is sponsoring, to promote the economy in Lombardy and develop the technologies that are relevant for the economic, social and cultural development of the Region and priority aspects for the future (health, food, environment, etc). Innovation is the key to ensuring Lombard businesses a competitive edge and growth and development on par with other European countries. Our objective, as the Region of Lombardy, is to become an engine in this revitalization of Lombard innovation and as a bridge between the many parts of the system, which includes citizens, national and international institutions, research institutes and private industry, and which already provides more than two-thirds of overall regional investment.

There are two strategic elements to achieving these objectives: the first is appropriate governance of the system, for a complete reference context for the players, and second, structured financial instruments, which must be sharpened and reinforced. These instruments are essential to the engine for development, represented by solid investment in human resources and in the capacity for innovation, perceived as a key to the creativity that can transform the processes and products of human resourcefulness. This is how we will achieve important results, permanent and solid growth, suitable to create the conditions of prosperity and high quality of life for our citizens.

FARE NETWORK PER SUPPORTARE LA CRESCITA ECONOMICA DELL’AREA MILANESE Fare rete nell’economia globale risulta un imperativo ed una priorità strategica per la Provincia di Milano che da sempre incoraggia ed investe in partnership e progetti sinergici con gli altri attori (nazionali ed esteri) del sistema economico al fine di migliorare la qualità dei propri servizi e sfruttare al massimo le risorse economiche presenti nel proprio territorio. Nel caso delle biotecnologie, quest’intento non è rappresentato solo da parole, ma si sostanzia in realtà concrete; alcune delle quali già ampliamente delineate, altre in fase di realizzazione o di studio. Il primo notevole risultato ottenuto è dato dalla creazione di BioMilano, il network del settore biotecnologie dell’area metropolitana milanese composto da imprese, atenei, associazioni e fondazioni scientifiche. Obiettivo del network è promuovere lo sviluppo del comparto Biotech milanese a livello nazionale ed internazionale attraverso l’identificazione e lo sviluppo di sinergie tematiche, di piattaforme tecnologiche condivise e di programmi di formazione.

Un altro importante risultato è l’avvio di alleanze internazionali come, ad esempio, l’accordo stipulato con il Centro di ricerca e sviluppo del Ministero dell’industria e commercio israeliano nel campo della ricerca industriale scientifica e tecnologica. In fase di realizzazione vi è la partecipazione della nostra Amministrazione anche alla Fondazione Parco Tecnologico Padano per supportare il comparto biotech espressamente dedicato all’agroalimentare e la stipulazione di partnership con altre Province italiane al fine di creare un vero e proprio cluster interregionale.

Tutte le tipologie di accordo, quindi, da quelle locali a quelle a più ampio raggio d’azione, sono state prese in considerazione dalla Provincia di Milano per poter promuovere il settore delle biotecnologie; un settore che costituisce un elemento di eccellenza per Milano ed il suo territorio (dove già operano centri di ricerca pubblici e privati riconosciuti a livello mondiale) e che rappresenta, senza alcun dubbio, un’importante opportunità di sviluppo per la nostra economia attraverso l’apporto che fornisce in tutti i campi (produ-

LE INIZIATIVE PIÙ IMPORTANTI GIÀ REALIZZATE DALLA PROVINCIA DI MILANO PER SOSTENERE IL COMPARTO BIOTECH Finanziamenti alle piccole e medie imprese: 2 edizioni del “BANDO START-UP”: misure specifiche per finanziare l’avvio e lo sviluppo di nuove imprese con un alto contenuto innovativo nel territorio provinciale (la seconda edizione è stata promossa in collaborazione con Regione Lombardia e Camera di Commercio di Milano. Con queste azioni è stata finanziata la nascita di 68 nuove aziende innovative (delle quali il 22% operanti nel comparto biotech). “BANDO INNOVA LA TUA IMPRESA” (realizzato in collaborazione Regione Lombardia e Camera di Commercio di Milano): misura finalizzata a sostenere la realizzazione di progetti di sviluppo aziendale di Micro, Piccole e Medie Imprese operanti nei seguenti settori di attività: biotecnologie non alimentari, design, moda, nuovi materiali, information communication technology. Con questa misura sono state finanziate 48 imprese (delle quali il 18,75% operanti nel settore biotech). Tutela della proprietà intellettuale: 3 edizioni del “BANDO PER IL SOSTEGNO AI PROCESSI DI BREVETTAZIONE EUROPEI e INTERNAZIONALI” delle micro, piccole e medie imprese della provincia di Milano (la seconda e la terza edizione sono state promosse in collaborazione con Regione Lombardia e Camera di Commercio di Milano). Obiettivo principale di queste iniziative è stato quello di stimolare le PMI milanesi ad ottenere brevetti europei o internazionali. Sono state finanziate ben 315 PMI per un totale di 618 progetti di brevettazione europea e/o internazionale (dei quali il 15%

inerenti il settore biotech). Alcuni dei brevetti premiati sono stati anche protagonisti delle manifestazioni “BREVETTI EUROPEI IN MOSTRA”. Strumenti informativi: La “ITALIAN BIOTECHNOLOGY DIRECTORY” (www.biodirectory.it),: una banca dati disponibile on-line ed in edizione cartacea – che si pone l’obiettivo di monitorare l’evoluzione del settore delle biotecnologie in Italia e promuovere le informazioni sugli operatori locali del biotech (università, imprese, istituti di ricerca pubblici e privati) a livello nazionale ed internazionale. CETRA - il portale della ricerca e dell’innovazione a Milano (www.cetraonline.it): strumento promosso dalla Provincia di Milano per poter offrire alle imprese un luogo virtuale di incontro con il mondo dell’Università e della ricerca. Cetra offre una serie di informazioni e servizi ad alto valore aggiunto a tutti i soggetti che vedono nell’innovazione la chiave di volta dello sviluppo della loro impresa e del loro business. Reti e Network: Realizzazione del Network BIOMILANO, il network del settore biotecnologie dell’area metropolitana milanese. Stipulazione dell’accordo di collaborazione industriale, scientifica e tecnologica con MATIMOP, il Centro di ricerca e sviluppo del Ministero dell’industria e commercio israeliano.

CREATING NETWORKS TO PROMOTE ECONOMIC GROWTH IN THE MILANESE AREA Creating networks within the global economy is an imperative, and is a strategic priority for the Province of Milan. The Province has always encouraged and invested in partnerships and synergic projects with other Italian and international organisations within the economic system, with a view to improving the quality of its own services and to exploiting to the full the economic resources present in the area. And in the case of biotechnologies, this aim is not simply a matter of words but has been turned into concrete reality. Some of the initiatives involved are already under way, while others are currently being studied or put into action. The first significant result to be obtained was the creation of BioMilano, the network of the biotechnologies sector in the metropolitan area of Milan. The network is made up of businesses, universities, and scientific associations and foundations, and aims to further the development of the Milanese Biotech sector at both a national and international level, through the identification and development of thematic synergies, shared technological platforms, and training programmes.

A second important achievement has been the establishment of international alliances, such as the agreement drawn up with the Centre for Research and Development of the Israeli Ministry for Industry and Commerce in the field of scientific and technological research. A further project currently underway is the Province’s involvement in the Foundation for the Technology Park of the Po Valley. This aims to promote that part of the biotech sector specifically dedicated to the agroalimentary field. In addition, the Province is also involved in partnerships with other Italian provinces which aim at creating a major interregional biotech cluster. All these different types of agreement, whether locally focused or with a wider range of action, have been deliberated by the Province of Milan as a means of promoting the biotechnologies sector. This is a sector which constitutes an element of excellence for Milan and its surrounding area, where internationally-recognised public and private research centres can already be found operating. There is no doubt that the sector represents an important opportunity for the development of the area’s

economy, bringing as it does benefits to all fields – productive, scientific, social-economic – in addition to the improvements which the new products and avant-garde technologies create in the quality of life.

PRESIDENT OF THE PROVINCE OF MILAN

THE MOST IMPORTANT INITIATIVES ALREADY PUT INTO OPERATION BY THE PROVINCE OF MILAN TO PROMOTE THE BIOTECH SECTOR Financing of Small and Medium-sized Companies: Two editions of the “START-UP GRANT” scheme - the second edition run in collaboration with the Region of Lombardy and the Milan Chamber of Commerce: specific measures to finance the start up and development of new businesses in the provincial area which have a high level of innovative content. This scheme financed the creation of 68 new, innovative companies, 22% of which are involved in the biotech sector. The “INNOVATE YOUR BUSINESS” scheme - run in collaboration with the Region of Lombardy and the Milan Chamber of Commerce : measures aimed at supporting business development projects for micro, small and medium-sized businesses working in the following sectors - non-food biotechnology, design, fashion, new materials, and information and communications technology. This scheme financed 48 businesses, of which 18.75% work in the biotech sector. Intellectual Property Protection: Three editions of the “ASSISTANCE WITH EUROPEAN PATENTING PROCEDURES” scheme for micro, small and medium-sized businesses in the province of Milan – the second and third editions were run in collaboration with the Region of Lombardy and the Milan Chamber of Commerce. The principal objective of this scheme was that of stimulating SMEs in the Milan area to obtain European or international patents. The results which were achieved highlight the success of the scheme : 315 SMEs obtained financing for a total of 618 European and/or international patenting projects. 15% of these belonged to the biotech sector.

Some of the patents awarded featured in the exhibition “EUROPEAN PATENTS ON SHOW”. Information Resources: The “ITALIAN BIOTECHNOLOGY DIRECTORY” (www.biodirectory.it) is a databank available both on-line and in printed form which aims to monitor the evolution of the biotechnology sector in Italy, and to promote information about local organisations (universities, companies, public and private research centres) working in the biotech sector at national and international level. CETRA – the research and innovation portal in Milan (www.cetraonline.it). CETRA is a research tool promoted by the Province of Milan which offers businesses a virtual meeting place where they can contact the world of Universities and research. CETRA provides both information and services, with high added value, to all those who see innovation as the key to the development of their company and their business. Networks: The set-up of the BIOMILANO Network – the network for the biotechnologies sector in the Milanese area. The drawing up of the agreement on industrial, scientific and technological collaboration with MATIMOP, the Centre for Research and Development of the Israeli Ministry for Industry and Commerce.

SALUTO DEL PRESIDENTE SANGALLI Bioforum 2006 rappresenta un’occasione importante per sottolineare ancora una volta la stretta collaborazione tra enti pubblici ed organizzatori privati, Camera di Commercio di Milano, Regione Lombardia, Provincia di Milano, Università milanesi e Associazioni di rappresentanza della imprese e della ricerca e per porre alla ribalta internazionale il settore delle biotecnologie, vera e propria eccellenza della nostra Regione; la Lombardia ed in particolare la provincia di Milano, si configura sempre di più come l’unico cluster italiano a livello europeo. La Camera di commercio di Milano, forte del suo ruolo di Integratore di sistema ha già avviato da tempo una linea di sostegno specifica in questo settore attivando alcuni progetti di grande interesse per le imprese: Il Palazzo dell’innovazione si proporrà come un nuovo centro di eccellenza dedicato all’innovazione per mettere in relazione il mondo della ricerca, della formazione e della produzione. Il Palazzo dell’Innovazione ospiterà l’Agenzia Nazionale per l’Innovazione per promuovere l’integrazione fra il sistema della ricerca ed il sistema produttivo, attraverso l’individuazione, la valorizzazione e la diffusione di nuove conoscenze, tecnologie, brevetti ed applicazioni industriali, prodotti su scala nazionale ed internazionale;

La nostra istituzione considera l’innovazione come motore per lo sviluppo e la crescita del sistema economico locale e si è fortemente impegnata insieme alla segreteria organizzativa di ITER ed agli altri enti promotori di Bioforum a rendere questo evento sempre più globale offrendo alle imprese lombarde la possibilità di sviluppare relazioni privilegiate con una concreta possibilità di verifica e confronto internazionale al fine di migliorare la propria competitività a livello mondiale.

Come rappresentante della Camera di Milano siamo convinti che il continuo sviluppo dell’economia locale debba far leva sulle nuove tecnologie e ricerca applicata, settori nei quali molte imprese lombarde, in particolare quelle milanesi, sono specializzate e rappresentano già una splendida realtà di eccellenza sul panorama nazionale ed internazionale. Con Bioforum 2006, il mio augurio personale è che nel corso delle due giornate di seminari ed incontri d’affari si possa rinnovare nuovamente questo importante momento di incontro tra scienza ed impresa nel settore delle biotecnologie permettendo l’innescarsi di una forte sinergia tra le diverse realtà favorendo in tal modo il concretizzarsi della potenzialità produttiva e creativa del nostro Paese in questo settore di primissimo piano.

Il progetto NetBioClue, che coinvolge clusters di otto diversi Paesi europei, mira a promuovere il networking transnazionale, il rafforzamento della competitività internazionale e lo scambio di buone pratiche nel settore biotech per la salute a livello europeo.

PRESIDENT SANGALLI Bioforum 2006 represents an important occasion to underline once again the tight cooperation among public entities and private organizers, the Milan Chamber of Commerce, the Lombardy Region, the Province of Milan, the various Universities of Milan, companies and research associations. It is also an opportunity to highlight the biotechnology sector on an international level, which represents an important advantage for the Lombardy Region and the province of Milan, cradle of this vibrant sector in the country. In fact the province of Milan can also claim the only Italian cluster of biotechnologies relevant on the European scene. The Milan Chamber of Commerce, in accordance with its role of System Integrator, began supporting this specific sector a long time ago by setting up various projects particularly important for companies: The Innovation Palace will be the new centre of excellence for innovation, with the mission to assemble together research, education and production. The Innovation Palace will host the National Agency for Innovation in order to promote integration among the research and productive systems, through finding, valorizing and spreading of new competencies, technologies, patents and industrial applications, produced at national and international levels;

Our institution considers innovation as the engine for development and growth of the local economy and it is strongly committed, together with the ITER organizational secretary and other entities promoting Bioforum, to make this event increasingly more global, by offering companies from Lombardy the chance of developing privileged relationships with a real possibility of international comparison, in order to improve their competitiveness on a global scale. As representatives of the Milan Chamber of Commerce, we are sure that the continuous development of the local economy must be based on new technology and applied research, sectors in which many companies from the Milan area have already specialized in and represent an example of excellence on national and international levels. My personal wish for the two days of seminars and business meetings at Bioforum 2006 is for this important contact between science and companies in biotechnology to be strengthened, by enabling the creation of a synergy among different realities and greater productivity and creativity potential in our country for this important sector.

L’ANBI è l’associazione che riunisce i Biotecnologi italiani attivi nella valorizzazione della propria scelta professionale, nello sviluppo delle biotecnologie e della ricerca scientifica, oltre che nell’innovazione dei rapporti “scienza e società”. Nata nel 2001, ha iniziato un percorso che la porta ora a gestire numerose attività e servizi rivolti ai biotecnologi e a quanti operano nel campo delle biotecnologie. Le attività dell’ANBI sono centrate su tre punti cardine: identità (un luogo dove si è biotecnologi di nome e di fatto), servizi (informazioni e continuo aggiornamento professionale), opportunità (miglior accesso al mondo del lavoro). Tra le iniziative più importanti ricordiamo il portale www.biotecnologi.org, la rivista Prometeus (www.prometeusmagazine.org), i corsi di aggiornamento gratuiti, l’albo professionale collegato alla job-matching platform BiotechJob (www.biotechjob.it). Grazie a ciò l’ANBI si presenta oggi come punto di riferimento in Italia e in Europa per i biotecnologi e le biotecnologie. ANBI is the Italian association that gathers Biotechnologists actively involved in the valorisation of their professional choice, in the promotion of biotechnology and scientific research and in an innovative approach to the relationship between science and society. Since the end of 2001 the Association has been growing continuously, presently supporting and managing several activities for biotechnologists and those who want to promote biotechnology. Several acknowledgments and its presence in national and international events allow ANBI to stand up for and promote professional specifications of biotechnologists, and to be proactive in building up a scientific community aware of its role within the science & society relationship. In particular, ANBI is present in the Discussion Platforms of the European Commission, in the European Convention for Biotechnology and in the working groups on Biotechnology of several national institutions and in the Advisory Committees of the Laurea (bachelor) degrees in Biotechnology. A promising and constructive path we wish to walk along together.

APRE è un’organizzazione non-profit che fornisce assistenza e formazione per promuovere la partecipazione italiana nella ricerca, sviluppo e innovazione tecnologica europei. Creata su iniziativa del Ministero Italiano della Ricerca e della Commissione Europea nel 1989, è supportata da circa 80 organizzazioni membro che comprendono centri di ricerca pubblici e privati, industrie, associazioni industriali, Camere di Commercio, parchi scientifici e 37 università. La sede centrale di Roma, conta un network di helpdesks regionali in Italia. I servizi gratuiti includono: n° telefonico per assistenza, organizzazione di info-days, ricerca di partner, schede informative sul web, pubblicazioni e corsi di formazione. APRE è il riferimento nazionale entro il 6° Programma Quadro per: Scienze della vita, IST, Nanotech, Qualità e sicurezza alimentare, Trasporti, Cittadinanza e Governance, Ricerca nelle Politiche di Supporto, PMI, INCO, Scienza&Società e le azioni Marie Curie. APRE was created upon the joint initiative of the Italian Ministry of Research and the European Commission in 1989 and is supported by approximately 80 member organisations, which comprise public and private research centres, industries, industrial associations, chambers of commerce, science parks and 37 universities. APRE’s head office is situated in Rome and can count on a network of regional helpdesks in Italy. Our free of charge services include: a help line, organisation of info-days, partner search, web-based information, publications and training sessions. APRE is National Contact Point within FP6 for: Life sciences, IST, Nanotech, Food quality and safety, Transport, Citizens and governance, Research for policy support, SMEs, INCO, Science&Society and Marie Curie actions. BIOART nasce grazie ad un progetto finanziato da Regione Lombardia DG Artigianato e Servizi e Unioncamere Lombardia, nell’ambito del piano di interventi della Convenzione Artigianato 2003-2005 Concorso di Idee. Il progetto è realizzato da BIC La Fucina, il centro servizi che dal 1996 promuove e sostiene la crescita imprenditoriale dell’area milanese, in collaborazione con l’APA Confartigianato Milano e la Confartigianato della Provincia di Lodi. L’obiettivo è sviluppare in Lombardia un network di imprese artigiane che possano integrarsi tra loro così da divenire il fornitore di riferimento dell’innovativa filiera europea delle biotecnologie. La rete BIOART si propone come un sistema integrato che offre servizi e prodotti, che risponde ai bisogni delle imprese biotecnologiche, dei laboratori e dei centri di ricerca. BIOART is a project funded by Regione Lombardia Crafts and Services, and Unioncamere Lombardia, within the intervention plan of the 2003-2005 Handicraft Convention – Competition of Ideas. The project has been carried out by BIC La Fucina, the Business Innovation Centre promoting and supporting entrepreneurial growth in the Milan area, in cooperation with APA Confartigianato and the Confartigianato of Province of Lodi. The main objective of this project is to develop, in Lombardy, a network of handicraft enterprises that could work together, becoming an important supplier of reference for the European biotechnologies production row. Nove Camere di Commercio Italiane all’Estero negli Stati Uniti, in Canada, in Francia, Germania, Portogallo, Spagna, Svezia, Svizzera e Regno Unito hanno messo insieme le loro forze e, con il supporto del Ministero del Commercio Internazionale, hanno creato una banca dati di imprese internazionali che operano sui mercati più importanti per il settore. Scopo del progetto è quello di favorire i contatti fra le aziende del settore, sviluppare alleanze e Joint ventures nella ricerca e sviluppo che aiutino a migliorare le performance delle aziende coinvolte. Trentuno aziende estere selezionate si presenteranno in occasione di “Bioforum 2006” e incontreranno imprese e centri di ricerca italiani. Inoltre nella stessa occasione verrà lanciato il portale www.biotech-net.org da utilizzare come strumento permanente di informazione sui mercati internazionali del Biotech e come luogo di incontro fra aziende italiane, europee e americane del settore biotech. Nine Italian Chambers of Commerce in America (Canada, United States) and Europe (France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom), with the support of the Italian Ministry for International Trade, have joined forces to create a unique and comprehensive database and network of Biotechnology companies operating on the industry’s main markets. The aim of the project is to support the international relations and contacts of the Italian biotech companies in order to promote alliances and joint ventures in the R&D and to reach better results. 31 selected foreign firms will present their activities during “Bioforum 2006” and will meet with Italian companies and research centres. Moreover, the new website www.biotechnet.org will be launched and promoted as a permanent instrument of information about foreign biotech markets and of contact building between Italian, European and American companies of the sector.

La Camera di Commercio di Milano pone il tema dell’innovazione tra le priorità della sua azione di promozione e sviluppo del sistema economico e sociale. Nello scenario attuale, infatti, in cui i cambiamenti del mercato comportano per le imprese la costante ricerca di nuove soluzioni, sostenere la nascita e la diffusione di idee innovative e ampliare l’apertura verso nuove tecnologie significa favorire un cambiamento nelle logiche aziendali e un miglioramento dell’efficacia e delle capacità competitive delle imprese e dei sistemi economici. OBIETTIVI. Secondo le strategie d’intervento delineate nel Programma pluriennale 2003-2007, la Camera di Milano, innovando il proprio modo di fare innovazione, intende: promuovere e supportare l’innovazione nelle imprese, attraverso lo sviluppo e l’attivazione di risorse di sistema; svolgere un’azione di raccordo tra imprese, istituzioni e mondo della ricerca nel processo di governo locale dell’innovazione. Dal 1953, anno della sua fondazione, il Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci accanto alla ricerca e alla conservazione, ha tra i suoi obiettivi l’educazione scientifica. Attualmente l’offerta educativa nelle collezioni storiche e nei laboratori interattivi si basa sull’educazione non formale. Nel 2005 il Museo ha aperto al pubblico un nuovo laboratorio interattivo dedicato alla genetica e alle biotecnologie. Il laboratorio, è stato realizzato nell’ambito del progetto EST (Educare alla Scienza e alla Tecnologia), finanziato da Fondazione Cariplo. Progetto EST è rivolto ad insegnanti e studenti delle scuole primarie e secondarie di primo grado con l’obiettivo di avvicinarli alla scienza e alla tecnologia attraverso un sistema educativo informale e interattivo. Il museo diventa luogo di apprendimento nel quale i giovani sono attivamente coinvolti nell’esperienza, nell’osservazione e nella comprensione attraverso la scoperta. L’i.lab Genetica e Biotecnologie offre agli studenti l’opportunità di confrontarsi in modo pratico con questioni scientifiche e sperimentali nel campo della genetica e delle biotecnologie. Actually the educational activities in the interactive laboratories and in the historical collections are founded upon an informal educational approach. In 2005 the Museum opened an interactive laboratory devoted to Genetics and Biotecnology, designed in the context of the EST Project (Educate in Science and Technology) funded by the Cariplo Foundation. EST Project is a multiannual educational project aiming at teachers and pupils of primary schools in the Region of Lombardy. Its goal is to familiarise those audiences with science and technolgy through informal education methodology and hands-on activities. Such approach regards the museum as a site of learning in which young people are engaged actively in experiences, observe and understand through discovery. The i.lab on Genetics and Biotechnology offers to the students the opportunity to encounter in a practical way scientific and experimental issues in the filed of Genetics and Biotechnology. POLARIS, il Parco Scientifico e Tecnologico della Sardegna, è una creazione del CONSORZIO VENTUNO, l’Agenzia Governativa della Regione Sardegna che lo ha realizzato e lo gestisce. POLARIS ha due sedi con diverse aree di specializzazione scientifico-tecnologica. La sede centrale si trova a Pula, in località Piscinamanna, nello splendido Parco Naturale del Sulcis, in un’area verde di 160 ettari, con una superficie coperta di 25.000 mq, ad appena 30 minuti da Cagliari e dal suo aeroporto internazionale. L’altra sede è ad Alghero, in località Tramariglio, in uno dei punti più suggestivi della Riviera del Corallo, ed occupa un’area di 3,5 ettari, con una superficie coperta di 10.000 mq. È gestita dalla società Porto Conte Ricerche. A POLARIS sono oggi localizzati 58 centri e società , e oltre 400 persone vi lavorano nei settori dell’ICT, Biomedicina, Bionformatica, Biotecnologie industriali. Il gruppo Bouty sarà al Bioforum con la divisione Biotecnologie di Technogenetics. Tra le novità presentate la CGH Array, una novità in citogenetica che individua anomalie cromosomiche al di sotto dei limiti di risoluzione delle tecniche convenzionali evitando vari esperimenti di FISH e che trova applicazione nel TelArray Technogenetics, un chip per l’analisi simultanea di tutte le regioni telomeriche e nel MDelTelarray Technogenetics, un array per diagnostica pre e post natale focalizzato sulle regioni critiche interessate da microdelezioni associate a molte sindromi. Technogenetics sta sviluppando un array genomico - GenomeArray Technogenetics per l’analisi dell’intero genoma e array specifici per oncologia oltre ad un pannello completo di sonde per FISH in diagnostica pre e postnatale e oncoematologia. Un altro progetto riguarda la validazione e messa in commercio di un kit per l’analisi genetica di SNP del gene OLR1 le cui varianti sono implicate nella suscettibilità all’infarto del miocardio.

Among the news, the CGH Array, a novelty in Cytogenetics which identifies any chromosomal aberrations that are under the resolution limits of the conventional techniques avoiding many FISH experiments. This technique is applied in the Technogenetics Telomeric CGH Array, a chip which allows a simultaneous analysis of all telomeric regions and Technogenetics MDelTel-CGH array, a pre and post natal diagnostic array focused on critical regions involved in microdeletions associated to many of syndromes. Technogenetics is developing a GCH array to study the whole genome - GenomeArray Technogenetics and some specific arrays for oncology beside a complete panel of FISH probes for pre and post natal diagnosis and for oncoemathology. Another project is the validation and marketing of a SNPs analysis kit for OLR1 gene whose variants are implicated in myocardial infarction susceptibility.
