DESCRIPTORY
NOTE
A brief overview of the portfolio in order to give the reader the ‘key’ to understand the methodology as well as the way that the portfolio is structured.
15

-This portfolio is divided according to a number of representation skills. Each section includes samples from different projects as this portfolio does NOT follow a chronological order nor does it present complete projects. -Each visual is acompanied by a small description as well as a small note indicating the project. -Each skill is presented on its own since the purpose of this portfolio is not as much to present design skills as it is to showcase architectural representation skills. -The following is a detailed reasoning on why each specific skill is represented in the portfolio. I. Diagram: diagrammatic representation of design ideas as well as spatial conditions can be depicted in a quick, simple, and easy-to-understand manner providing the architect with a powerfull tool of efficient and legible representation. II. Mapping: coded observations and conditions accummulated usually at a zoom out and at times at a zoom in scale. Architectural mapping is a quite valuable representational tool used to depict topographical, regional, urban, and geopolitical conditions. III. Architectural drawing: a variety of methods of architectural drawing give to the architect/designer the freedom to express his/her ideas in various ways. Architectural drawing is certainly NOT limited in technical drawing only, but includes mixed media drawings, three-dimensionals, atmospherics, collages, renderings, etc. IV. Model making: maybe one of the most important parts of the design process, architectural model making gives a variety of possibilities to the architect. From fast and effective study models, to detailed final models, the architectural model constitutes an extremely valuable tool for successful design.

PROJECT: Revitalization of Oil Refineries Area in Larnaca, Cyprus
Site analysis and design strategy diagrams
Recognizing the site as an in-between strip of land between the city and the waterfront
Mapping the structures in the site with a mass and void map.
Recognizing and isolating areas of high density in the site.
21
Treating the public road as an edge.
Possiblity of redirecting the road in order to adapt to the new edge of the site.
Recognizing the coastline as an edge.
Pushing the coastline inwards in order to create a new kind of relationship between the city and the sea.
22
Recognizing the site of the refinery area as an area having its own identity within the city
Extending the site towards the passenger port.
Allowing the surrounding conditions to sprawl further towards the site while inserting an activity that acts as a “stopper to this process.
Proposing three cores of activities.
23
Building relationships between activities. As the site becomes more developed through the years, the merging of activities will start creating points of higher density in terms of activities in space.
Proposing a sports tourism area in close proximity to the passeger port allowing the participants to come from different parts of the world for the events

PROJECT: Hybrid of Flows: A Study of Pedieos River in Nicosia, Cyprus [Designing a Museum of Agriculture Within the Riverfront]
Site analysis and design strategy diagrams
25
PHOTOGRAPHIC DOCUMENTATION OF THE EDGE CONDITION: UNDERSTANDING DENSITY AND POROSITY VIA THE TECNIQUE OF PHOTOMONTAGE
26
The site is explored in terms of the idea of the flow and it is recognized as an “island, meaning it is surrounded by all three types of flow identified in the site analysis (water flow, pedestria flow, and vehicular flow).

PERSONAL
NOTE
A small statement of personal goals, ambitions, views, and obsessions, written in a very personal tone.
83
84
-Having graduated recently from the architecture school, my goal from now on is to develop my skills (both design and representation skills) since I believe that architecture is a continuous learning process that does not have a climax or a final stage. In other words, an architect never stops learning. -Furthermore, my definition of architecture is much more than mere flat CAD drawings, fancy photorealistic renderings, and building permits. I view architecture as a creative process that results in resolutions that are the outcome of an intense thinking process, a multiphase design process, and a large spectrum of architectural representation methods. Research and methodology, therefore, are vital ingredients of good architecture. -Having said that, I have to highlight my personal passion for research and architectural theory. I believe that theory is the foundation of successful design. As a result, I value research and theory as much as the actual design process. -Last but not least, I cannot omit the fact that I have a specific obsession with model making. Although I do not and could not underestimate the value of all the rest architectural representation methods, I see the architectural model as the closest abstraction of reality and, in my opinion, maybe the most useful tool during the design process. However, I stay open to any option when it comes to architectural representation and under no circumstance I will refuse to learn or improve another representation skill. -Conclusively, although I have specific personal views, goals, passions, and obsessions, my ultimate agenda is to learn. Since, therefore, I consider myself a good learner, and since I place that at the top of the list of my attributes, I believe that I can be valuable and offer as much as I will earn at any architecture and design team/firm/partnership that loves architecture as much as I do.
