This ur ban mapping p roje c t covers the major it y of San Francisco’s emb arc adero and nancial distr ic t. Pedestr ia ns were followed at ve d i erent locations, and their a c tivities are bro k en d own into ve di erent classi cations. These ca tegor ies are rep resen ted by ve distinc t colors. The heavier the foot tra c, the dar k er the colo r.
R esults de via ted bet ween locat ions and by the time of day. O verall, howe ver, outcomes were rather e venhanded through out. Transpor tation was the most pre valent objec ti ve, while the need for amenit ies was t he least. The longest distances traveled were for recreation and transpor tation and generally in areas of to ur ism. The shor ter distances traveled pr imar i ly i nvo lved business.

Situated with in the confines of the Leidesdor ff all e y on the outsk ir ts of the financial distr ic t of San Francisco, this proposed space aims to redefine an area that is k nown for t he Transame r ica Pyramid and little else. B y mimick ing the facade of the ele c tr ic al facilit y that it is constru c ted against, thi s pop up space is lef t unnoticed when closed. I t s program when open, howe ver, is meant to establish a ne w found destinc tion within the alle y and th e sur rounding area.
This struc ture p roposes ne w oppor tunit y for for ms of st reet and public a r t cur rently not found within the sur rounding area. I t would be run from the selling of its publications and the suppor t of its cont r ibu tor s. I ts p ro gram is open ended. I ts p roper t ies provide benches and roof space for sittin g. I t creates space for installations that ex tend out in to the alle y. The re is an abundance of wall space for mo re constr ic ted prac tices. This buildi ng is as open ended as its intended constituen c y. I t is recepti ve to all fo r m s of creative expression with in the public realm.

These examinations merge captured shif ts in light and movement through physical space.
