Rene Turck and maker+, a leading design innovation consultancy, developed LUCIENT TM a product range consisting of three variations of the same technology. LUCIENT TM is a new and innovative glass laminate collection that allows one the capability of creating new and imaginative design spaces for your home and office. It employs a laminating process which comprises of material lamination with a special adhesive between sheets of premium quality glass. It becomes more than a dividing line between living areas, but rather an added feature that enhances and transforms an inspired living space. The purpose of our design is to effectively present the material and technology to interior designers, architects and other design professions and highlight the vast amount of benefits to the range of materials. For the launch edition, we chose carbon fibre, colour fast cotton and a fine copper mesh, each being distinct enough to display the variety of possibilities. Our vision for the LUCIENT TM sample packaging, is to enhance and communicate the quality and application of the new technology, while leaving room for the imagination. Designers, architects or clients can then request their own custom materials, which can then be tested and approved by René Turck for production, resulting in a truly unique design solution. LUCIENT TM is the perfect fusion of technology and imagination. Either of the materials in our existing collection, or a custom material of your choice, goes through a process of lamination, using heat and pressure to arrive at the finished product. The material is sandwiched between layers of glass and an adhesive compound called EVA (Ethylene-vinyl Acetate). The material has good clarity and gloss, low-temperature toughness, stress-crack resistance, hot-melt adhesive waterproof properties, and resistance to UV radiation.

Our LUCIENT TM sample box contains 3 options from which to choose, but this does not limit your choice of materials by any means. If Carbon Fibre, Copper Mesh or Colourfast Cotton doesn’t meet your particular decor needs, and you have some other textile in mind, let us know. We will work with you to source and test the material you are interested in. Due to the customisability of the product, all prices are on application.

Once we have sourced your custom material for testing, we will run rigorous tests at our testing facility in Germany to ensure the final product will adhere to the highest standards of quality. When we are satisfied with this test, we will provide a sample for you, the client to approve from an aesthetic and finishing point of view.

Manufacturing of LUCIENT TM takes place at our manufacturing plant in Johannesburg, which makes it a truly South African product. Textiles and meshes are typically supplied to us in rolls. The maximum width of our laminate sheet sizes will be governed by the respective roll width, while the maximum height is determined by the size of our autoclave machine, which allows for 4 metres. The max sheet size for our sample materials are as follows, although custom materials will differ: • • •

Copper Mesh (4000mm x 900mm) Carbon Fibre (4000mm x 1100mm) Cotton Textile (4000mm x 1300mm)

Installation can be done by most qualified professional glass panel installers. Any glazier that is a member of AAMSA/SAGGA is capable of installing LUCIENT TM but our contracting division has a variety of contractors who we can recommend. Installing LUCIENT TM is no different from any standard glass panel installation, using Aluminium channel, stand-off or stirrup fixings.
