Typology: Residential

Location: Porirua, Wellington, New Zealand

Area: 493 m2 (Type 1), 108 m2 (Type 2), 188 m2 (Type 3)

Year: 2018

Aotearoa is currently experiencing a severe housing crisis that is particularly affecting vulnerable populations. A radical redesign of living areas is necessary to address this issue, taking into consideration future changes, cultural aspects, and the environment. The Porirua project utilizes site geography and social studies to construct townhouses that promote a strong sense of community among residents. These townhomes are available in three different modules designed for single individuals, those of Māori origins, and young families. To meet the needs of the homeowners while respecting regional customs and enhancing communal well-being, the concept places a high priority on the quality and practicality of interior spaces

Typology: Mixed use

Location: Jing An Suburb, Shanghai, China

Area: 1890 m2

Year: 2021-2023

In densely populated Shanghai, a growing trend focuses on community-based senior care. This innovative approach combines three types of Chinese senior care facilities within a single building: a comprehensive service center for active seniors, a medical complex providing accessible healthcare services, and a nursing home for specialized care. The integrated center offers activities and counseling, the medical complex decentralizes hospital services, and the nursing home prioritizes patient comfort and high-quality care. Interior design goals include functional layout, appropriate sizing, and elements to enhance comfort such as lighting, colors, and materials. This design strictly adheres to globalized medical design standards and Chinese government criteria due to its connection to healthcare. The strategy aims to provide a community-centered response to Shanghai's aging population, addressing their diverse needs.

Shanghai's Experiential Museums of Elderly Care serves as a multipurpose, scalable, scenario-based teaching center for senior care services. It encompasses visual representations of a medical complex, comprehensive service center, and home care services. To better educate seniors and their families about eldercare facilities and home environments, the interior design prioritizes real-life experiences. It promotes the use of smart senior care products and services by showcasing how technology and eldercare services can seamlessly integrate through creative, intelligent senior care scenarios. Moreover, the location provides a spacious, flexible area for senior care events, eldercare idea exchanges, and the demonstration of products and technologies.

Year: 1972

Studying The Buck House, designed by the renowned New Zealand architect Ian Athfield, presents a significant educational opportunity for architecture students. The objective of this study is to gain deeper insights into Athfield's architectural style and concepts, particularly his deliberate incorporation of everyday elements such as corrugated iron, steeply pitched roofs, and small windows. This exploration allows for a better understanding of his creative design choices, spatial utilization, and manipulation of geometric shapes. Additionally, those examining The Buck House can trace its evolution over time, from its sale to the Clare family in 1974 to its current use by Athfield Architects. To conduct this study, various approaches can be employed, including on-site visits, archival research, interviews with individuals associated with the project, and the examination of historical photographs and documents.
