Introduction “Studying International Hospitality Management (IHM) at Stenden is learning in practice. Students work in our own four star hotel for a number of years, and are gradually introduced to all facets of the trade, including the related theory. The Bachelor of Business Administration in Hospitality Management degree provides students with everything they need to become a professional in this dynamic world. Problem-based Learning (PBL) is one of the key elements of Stenden’s education and is quite different from traditional teaching. It takes a little time to get used to, but after the first few sessions, students are always enthusiastic about this way of learning. Small groups of students meet twice a week to work together. Graduates acknowledge the value of PBL during their internship and career. Apart from PBL, lectures and workshops are offered as supporting classes for students.

Each study year at Stenden consists of four periods of nine weeks. During each period or module you will work on a theme with a close link to the real world. You will be introduced to all aspects of the theme through different subjects. These subjects therefore change per module, depending on the knowledge and skills you need for a certain theme. PERSONAL COACHING

At the start of the programme, you are assigned a coach who will personally guide you during the entire programme and will help you to think critically about yourself, your way of learning and your future career.

The first year will be an introduction to the hospitality industry at operational level. Through subjects such as Law, Marketing, Human Resource Management and Finance, students will gain insight into the organisational structures of the hospitality industry. Managing customer expectations will also be an important part of year one.

Year 1 Introduction to the hospitality industry

Become a supervisor

The first year lays down a solid foundation for the rest of the programme. Working on actual cases will be the common thread throughout your studies. During the introduction week, you will already experience this challenging way of learning that makes studying at Stenden so unique. During one of the four study periods (modules) of year one, you will gain professional experience at the Stenden Hotel, under the supervision of senior students and practical instructors.

In the second year you will be fully immersed in the industry, from learning to analyse the business itself and the environment to being able to make the right choices as a supervisor. The cases you work on with your fellow students will show your level of thinking and acting. The second year also concentrates on the language skills needed for the international hospitality business, including English and a second foreign language such as Spanish, French or German. Language offerings may be expanded in the future. This year, you will run a virtual hotel together with a classmate and work on the improvement of this hotel in workshops. These simulations will teach you what the key indicators are for the success of your hotel, and which indicators have the greatest influence. You will use these to make your business profitable. LEARNING COMPANY: STENDEN HOTEL Stenden has several in-house learning companies. These are professional organisations where students can gain experience from practice, under the guidance of professionals. For example, our programme has its own Stenden Hotel. National and international visitors to Leeuwarden enjoy staying here, whether for business or pleasure. As well as the 28 comfortable rooms and five meeting rooms, this four star hotel also has a restaurant and an events office. The canteen and Stenden café are also part of the in-house learning facilities.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT The International Hospitality Management programme not only highlights the importance of learning the trade, but also focuses on unleashing the full potential of students during the programme and afterwards. Stenden actively provides career development through workshops and individual guidance to help students reach their study objectives, understand their career possibilities and make their choices. At the start of your study a personal career coach will be appointed to you. This coach will accompany you during your study and will advise you on your personal development.

ASSOCIATE DEGREE Students can also choose to enrol in the two year Associate Degree programme offered at our campuses in Leeuwarden and Emmen. Students of the Associate Degree programme follow the first two years of the Bachelor programme and finish their study with a research project at the end of year two. These years conclude with an Associate Degree. Students can choose to continue studying for another two years and obtain their Bachelor Degree in Leeuwarden.

The main phase of the programme begins in second year. This year focuses on tactical management insights. Students will again have the opportunity to work at the Stenden Hotel, but this year as a supervisor managing the first year students. In addition you will run a virtual hotel together with a classmate.

The International Hospitality Management programme can be compared to a fast career in the hospitality industry: from operational employee in the first year to supervisor in the second year and manager in the third year. In the third year, students will be in charge of one of the departments of the hotel, for instance Food & Beverage, Sales & Marketing, Front Office, Finance or HRM. At the end of the programme students will receive a “talent passport”, which includes an overview of their developments, qualities and talents.

The IHM Student Centre is run by students and offers a helping hand to all students during the study preparation period. Students are connected with the Student Centre from the moment they sign up for their education until the point they complete the first year. The Centre’s office is open during the summer months and they answer questions on a daily basis. Upon arrival and for the first study period, students will also be introduced by host students to Stenden and the student city.

In the third year, students gain their first management experience at Stenden Hotel. This year also prepares them for their internship and the actual next step into the professional world. The whole programme now switches to a strategic level.

Research options Research plays an important part within the International Hospitality Management programme. In the first year students are introduced to the different aspects of research. In the second year they learn the tools to set up applied research and use different methods. They are also introduced to the world of data analysis. In the third year, students carry out a professional study in one of fifteen areas, such as hospitality marketing, HRM studies or multicultural studies in hospitality. Some students do research for our own research unit, the Stenden Academy of International Hospitality Research (Stenden AIHR). The best studies are nominated for publication in a scientific journal for hospitality. ACADEMY OF INTERNATIONAL HOSPITALITY RESEARCH (STENDEN AIHR) Stenden AIHR is one of the world’s leading hospitality research academies. Its national and international researchers are dedicated to conducting studies on important aspects of hospitality, aiming to have an impact on the professional industry and contribute to improving hospitality education.

Together with NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences and HZ University of Applied Sciences, Stenden was appointed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Education as CELTH to improve cooperation and knowledge transfer within the industry.

MANAGEMENT This year, you will be in charge of second year students for five weeks and will be responsible for the entire department, for example, chairing staff meetings. Many students think this is the best part of the whole programme, and this management experience also gives you a head start in the labour market.

PLACEMENT COACH Deciding on the internship, company, region and position can be challenging. Stenden has placement coaches who prepare students to make the right choice. There are many possibilities for International Hospitality Management students: from the Food & Beverage and Sales Department to Banqueting, and from HRM and Duty Management to Assistant General Management. In all cases, students have the chance to develop towards a position at management level.

The final year of the programme is mainly focused on the internship. As well as undertaking ten months of valuable work experience at the internship company, students will also do research for their final dissertation which they will complete during this internship.

The International Hospitality Management programme has the largest internship office at Stenden. This is no coincidence: the educational programme and its students have a good reputation worldwide, and new companies are eager to sign on as learning companies. The internship office has an online database where you can find information about more than six hundred highquality learning companies and positions spread around the world, including Australia, the United States and Great Britain. Students can also suggest their own internship company and the programme will assess if this company meets the standards.

SPECIALISATION You can stay in Leeuwarden for your minors, but many students choose a Grand Tour and follow the specialisation modules (minors) at one of the International Campus Sites of Stenden in Qatar, Thailand, South Africa or Indonesia. Others might follow an exchange programme at one of the more than a hundred universities from Stenden’s worldwide network. The minor Cruise Management is popular among hospitality students because many students do their internship on a cruise ship and find a job in this industry after they graduate.

Students can gain middle management level positions at hotels, restaurants, events organisations, resorts or conference centres. 3-year track You might qualify for the 3-year track of the International Hospitality Management programme which is a shorter and more intense track leading to the same degree as the 4-year track. Modules will be combined and we ask more self study. Entry into the 3-year track is granted based on a high school diploma that gives you access to your country’s highest education. There are excellent job opportunities in the industry for students graduating from Stenden Hotel Management School. However there is a demand for postgraduates at Master’s level who have relevant business and research skills as well as strategic capability.

For those students who have this ambition, Stenden offers the possibility to graduate with a Master’s degree. In cooperation with the University of Derby (UK), we offer two international Master’s programmes, the Master in International Leisure & Tourism Studies and the Master in International Hospitality and Service Management. Students can opt for a single Dutch Master of Arts (MA) degree or gain a dual award made up of a Dutch Master of Arts (MA) degree and a British Master of Science (MSc) degree. All programmes at Stenden meet the quality standards established by the Dutch government and its quality and accreditation assurance body. The Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO) is the independent accreditation organisation set up by the Dutch and Flemish governments with the primary goal of providing an expert and objective judgement of the quality of higher education in the Netherlands. Another advantage of Dutch higher education is its affordability compared to other countries, such as the USA, UK or Switzerland, which have relatively higher university tuition fees. Dutch higher education also has an excellent reputation.

The Stenden Learning Companies: Theory meets practice

The in-house Learning Companies are professional training enterprises for specific Stenden degree programmes. Here, you will not only receive regular tuition, you will also benefit from training in a professional organisation, working on real assignments from external customers and gaining invaluable hands-on experience. The Learning Companies include our four-star Stenden Hotel (incorporating restaurants, a conference and events centre and the university canteens) and a studio for media productions. Internships

Internships provide an essential link between education and employment. An internship usually takes place during the final year, forming a transition phase from graduation to employment. As a student of one of Stenden’s Bachelor programmes, you will spend a significant portion of your studies following a paid internship. Stenden maintains strong links with business, giving you access to internships in countries such as the USA, UK, Canada, Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands and other countries all over Europe. As an intern, you will put your skills and knowledge into practice, gaining work experience within your field of study. A significant number of students are employed by their internship employer, so you may find that you can start your career immediately after graduation.

Problem-Based Learning

Problem-based learning (PBL) is a key element in Stenden’s education and is a quite different approach from traditional teaching. You will meet twice a week with other students in groups of 12 to 15 and work together on cases and problems reflecting real-life situations. Your PBL sessions will be guided and supervised by a Stenden tutor to ensure that you meet your learning goals. Stenden’s graduates look back on their PBL sessions with great satisfaction, acknowledging their extreme usefulness in their careers. In addition to PBL, each programme includes workshops, lectures and presentations, offering you a diverse and challenging learning environment.

Introduction International Applied Business Administration is a fascinating and rapidly changing field both in education and the industry. The International Applied Business Administration programme prepares students for a position in senior management. As business administrators, graduates are required to ensure that the part of the organisation they are responsible for performs well. Whether they work in ICT, purchasing, finance, facilities management or administration, these managers have to know what is needed and how the department can contribute successfully to the greater company objectives. A typical graduate of this programme is able to identify problems quickly and enjoys solving them effectively. International Applied Business Administration is an ideal all-round management programme focused on the internal organisation of a company. THE PROGRAMME Starting a degree is like entering a company; in the first year, students enter as new employees, growing gradually within the organisation. When they enter their second year, they take on the role of a manager with a responsibility for ensuring that the organisation runs well and looking into how processes can be improved. In the final phase of the degree programme, students further explore the role of a manager, examining the additional factors involved and the skills necessary. Each module contains various forms of assessment in line with the requirements of the body of knowledge and skills needed for a particular profession. In order to complete the degree and graduate successfully, students are required to do a paid internship to demonstrate their competitive edge in the real business world. The Information Technology programme is ideal for those who like setting up and maintaining business networks, developing games, websites or videos, or even developing software for mobile devices and technical applications. Information technology jobs use a universal language in a world in which automation and digitalisation are increasingly important. THE PROGRAMME The Information Technology programme in Emmen offers a state-of-the-art programme in Software Engineering. In the first year, the foundations are laid with subjects such as programming languages, networks, databases and web technology. Alongside the technological subjects, students are taught communication skills for an international environment. Students also learn the different aspects of information technology and how to work in small groups on real case studies. In this process, there is significant and informal contact between students and teachers. In the second, third and fourth year of the programme, students specialise in software engineering, following an internship and completing the course with a final project. A degree in IT will give students considerable work and career opportunities. IT is used in businesses, institutions and government organisations to make work processes, communication and the development of new products and services more efficient. Graduates may also start their own businesses or become selfemployed – the choices are practically unlimited.

MINORS IN THIS PROGRAMME As all IBL students are abroad throughout the third year (one semester study abroad and one semester internship), there are no minors for the IBL programme in Emmen. For their study abroad, IBL students can opt for one of our wide range of exchange programmes or go on Grand Tour. An exchange programme gives students the opportunity to take courses not offered at their home campus. They benefit from studying in a new environment, meeting new people and experiencing different cultures. It is an excellent way of combining study and travel. INTERNATIONAL IBL students study abroad for six months and preferably do their internship abroad as well. In the fourth year, students focus on their International Marketing and Cross Cultural Management major, working on a real business case for a company active in international business. During the second semester, students carry out their graduation project and do research on international business subjects. However, there’s also the possibility of carrying out research in the Netherlands.

International Business and Languages is a commercial programme with a strong focus on intercultural communication. If you want to be successful in business in an international work field, then this is of unique importance. PBL CASE During the first semester of the second year, students will carry out an analysis of a potential export market for the traditional Dutch product ‘Spekkies’ [marshmallows]. THE PROGRAMME ‘No theory without practice’ – in the IHM programme we put students straight to work in our own learning company, the 4* Stenden Hotel, restaurant, conference rooms, canteen, café and bar. Students progress from service positions to supervisory positions in the second year. In the third year, students take on the responsibility for an entire department and learn about important aspects of management. During the 10 month management internship in the final year, students put theory into practice in an external hospitality business. PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE The knowledge acquired in the first year represents the basics for the main phase of the programme. During the subsequent three years, you will build up knowledge and experience, for instance, through projects investigating the logistics process from raw material to final product. THE PROGRAMME The International Logistics programme has two phases, namely the foundation year (the first year) and the main phase. During the foundation year, students are introduced to the various aspects of the logistics process, from marketing, production and logistics to internal organisation and purchasing. YEAR 2 The leisure market will be viewed from a tactical management perspective in the second year. Students will be introduced to all aspects of organising an event. THE PROGRAMME The Leisure Management degree focuses on the organisation and coordination of free-time experiences. Students receive a solid grounding in marketing communication, new earning models, the use of social media, socially responsible entrepreneurship and communication. In addition, students gain practical experience in the leisure industry working in the various sectors of event management, tourism, sports, arts, culture, recreation and media. In the first year of the programme, students learn about the various developments in the leisure industry. They also gain knowledge of concept development and management skills. An important component of the first academic year is the new business concept, Young Entrepreneurship, in which students set up their own businesses. The emphasis in the second year is on organising an event or festival for a company in the leisure industry. During this phase students learn about project management, creativity, concept development and research. During the second year students work one day per week for half a year for a leisure company to gain real life experience. The third year focuses on strategic management and networks directing followed by six-month optional minors as specialisations. In the fourth year, students are required to complete an eight month international or national internship. Students complete the programme by writing their thesis. INTERNATIONAL FOCUS The Leisure Management programme is renowned for its practical and international approach. Guest speakers, business presentations, setting up a company and field trips are all part of the course, and with its own learning company and internship office, Stenden offers a broad range of intern positions worldwide and in the Netherlands. EUROPEAN TOURISM FUTURES INSTITUTE (ETFI) Leisure Management works closely with its research institute ETFI (European Tourism Futures Institute). This institute specializes in the development and application of scenario planning for the tourism and leisure industry today, and in the future. It aims to create a common vision of all key stakeholders by actively involving them in the co-creation and implementation of the scenarios.

SPORTS MANAGEMENT In the third year students can opt to choose the specialisation Sports Management. If you choose this specialisation you will be actively involved in sports for the final 18 months of your studies. Students take two Sports Management minors. These are based on the national competency subject cluster of Sports Management and give students all of the specific starting qualifications that are of importance in the sports sector. EVENT MANAGEMENT Events are increasingly used to intensify customer/ consumer relations. It is therefore not surprising that the industry expresses a need for well-trained, all-round event managers. These event managers are so versatile and knowledgeable that they can be employed anywhere in an organisation. Students are trained to become allround MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events) organisers with theoretical and practical experience. In the second year of the programme, students explore the theories behind media analysis, human resource management, brand management and marketing communication. The third year focuses on strategic management and students spend a module working for a company. Stenden is well known for strong links with the media and entertainment industry, and numerous companies (both national and international) prefer Stenden students because they are known for being independent and possessing problem-solving capabilities. Most employers look for these qualities in possible candidates. Students can also study abroad for one semester. The internship starts in the fourth year. This is the time to bring everything you have learned into practice. It is possible to do your graduation assignment for the internship company, but you can also do research for another organisation.

THE PROGRAMME Sustainable tourism lies at the core of this programme. Students learn to prioritise the needs of the community and the environment at a tourist destination, and they learn about the impact tourism has on different cultures and examine which economic factors play a role. Once again, there is no theory without practice. The first year already includes a visit to a European city and a rural tourist area is included, followed by a field trip to the Mediterranean in the second year. Students are introduced to all aspects of a managerial position and are taught how to market a product or service using specific marketing tools and to put theory into practice. To connect theory to the real world, students practise and work with a management simulation game in the third year. During the final year students undertake a seven-month paid internship within an industry-related company and write their bachelor’s thesis. Upon graduation, graduates receive the title Bachelor of Business Administration. With this internationally recognised title, graduates are able to find work anywhere in the world.

MINOR Stenden has a major-minor structure. Although the major is the main focus of the programme, students can deepen or broaden their knowledge by following a minor. Heritage Experience Management (Leeuwarden): focuses on the management of natural and cultural heritage. Think of climbing, mountain biking, survival, etc. You learn in practice what it takes to be an entrepreneur in this industry; how do you set up a business, what does it mean to be a leader, what problems, opportunities and challenges do you have to face and how do you handle these? You also learn to understand, develop and deploy sustainable tourism products and innovative strategies. International Destination Branding (Qatar): explores how events are used to create a brand identity and make a destination competitive. Online Marketing and Revenue Management (South Africa): introduction to online marketing and revenue management, pricing and channel management, the related online systems, and above all, the relevance and application for small and medium-sized entrepreneurs in the tourism industry. Tourism Geography & Planning (Leeuwarden): a new preMaster’s programme on geography and tourism. The programme consists of one or two minors and a research dissertation. Stenden is offering this pre-Master’s in collaboration with Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. After completing the pre-Master’s and the Bachelor’s degree, you can move directly into the one year Master of Science in Cultural Geography at this university. ELECTIVE IN EVENTS MANAGEMENT If you choose the elective in Events Management, you will follow a specially adapted programme within the Master’s programme in International Leisure and Tourism Studies curriculum. The seminars for the modules are organised in separate classes and focus on the events industry. Contemporary literature will be discussed, field trips are organised and guest speakers from the industry will be invited. You will also need to take the elective ‘Managing Event Organisations’ and the thesis must also be focused on the events industry. COURSE CONTENT The English language is naturally the central focus of the course, with the aim being for students to achieve an IELTS 6.0. The course is given by teachers from different cultures who are mostly native speakers, qualified and experienced in second language teaching. You will benefit from their expertise and their understanding of the complexities of learning a second language at a high level, as well as the latest technology. The classes include speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary and business English, as well as general IELTS exam skills. At the end of the course you will take an on-site IELTS exam. PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING The course also includes lessons in problembased learning (PBL). PBL is a problem solving method used extensively at Stenden, with the aim of helping you to develop your skills in critical thinking. Dutch culture, teaching styles and learning styles may be very different from what you’ve experienced in your home country. Consequently, PBL lessons also pay attention to more general study skills, so you’ll learn how to cope with the different styles of teaching and learning at Stenden. The information about the Dutch culture and cultural differences also incorporated into the lessons will help make it easier for you to settle in. PERSONAL COACH You will be assigned to a teacher-mentor who will be responsible for guiding your academic progress throughout the course. The teachers will regularly discuss your progress with you and will intervene in time to offer guidance and avoid problems. Pre-Master’s Programme (one semester)

Goal of the Programme The Pre-Master’s Programme is especially designed for international students and combines intensive academic English language training, study skills lessons and academic lectures to ensure swift adaptation to Stenden’s Master’s programmes. You will gain greater confidence in expressing yourself and feel more comfortable when engaging with fellow students, lecturers and professors in the Master’s programmes. You will also be able to perform better academically and tackle complex research projects in an effective and professional way. This is an excellent platform for a successful career in industries like hospitality, tourism or services, providing added value for your personal and professional development.

SUBJECTS Academic English is a key subject in the PreMaster’s Programme, which is fairly different from regular English language training. You will spend approximately 3 hours per day on a combination of: › Writing (essays, research reports and dissertations) › Listening (following lectures with ease, taking notes in lectures) › Reading (reading for specific academic purposes, learning specific strategies for effective reading) › Speaking (presenting findings, chairing and taking part in group discussions) › Grammar (improving grammar skills to an academic level) › Pronunciation.

After successfully completing Stenden’s Pre-Master’s Programme including an IELTS exam, you are guaranteed entry into both the Master in International Hospitality and Service Management and the Master in International Leisure and Tourism Studies. The programme is taught on Stenden’s Leeuwarden campus with full access to the library (including digital) and all other facilities at Stenden. The Pre-Master’s Programme is also accessible for students who already meet the entry requirements for the Master’s programmes but simply want to refresh or upgrade their knowledge and academic skills.

Located in a delta where several major European rivers flow into the North Sea, the Netherlands was ideally situated to become a centre of trade and transport. Today, Rotterdam is the largest European seaport and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is one of the four main European airports. The Netherlands is one of the world’s top ten biggest exporting nations and logistics and distribution are key strengths in an economy rated as the 16th largest in the world, in a country with only 17 million people. As well as having its own major homegrown multinationals, the country hosts the main European distribution centres and EMEA offices of an array of major international companies, all of which offer attractive internship opportunities. As well as being a hub for European and intercontinental travel, the Netherlands benefits from its dense and efficient road and rail networks. This, combined with the fact that the country is little more than 300 km long from north to south and 250 km wide from east to west, makes it easy to get around.

The Netherlands is a constitutional monarchy in which the House of Oranje [which translates to orange], currently headed by King Willem-Alexander, plays a largely symbolic role. The Netherlands has been open to people of non-Dutch origin for a long time. It is attractive because of freedom of thought and religion as well as commerce. Today it is home to over 190 different nationalities. This cultural diversity has made it an environment where knowledge, ideas and cultures from all over the world come together. Another distinctive characteristic of the Dutch is their openness in personal interaction and their direct way of acting and speaking. Dutch society is relatively non-hierarchical – for example, teachers tend to be very accessible and are truly interactive with their students – which can help students really get the most out of their studies. Holland is also a safe country by international standards, with low levels of violence and street crime.

English widely spoken

Thanks to the country’s international orientation, other languages are widely spoken – familiarity with French and German is common and it will be hard to find anyone who does not speak English. In fact, approximately 90% of the Dutch population speaks English – a percentage not found anywhere else in Continental Europe. It was therefore obvious that the Netherlands would become the first non-English speaking country in the world to offer course programmes taught entirely in English. At Stenden, these programmes are delivered in part by native English-speaking staff to maintain the highest teaching standards.

Whenever we talk about transport, we cannot forget bikes. The Netherlands has significantly more bikes than people (work that one out!), with thousands of kilometres of cycle lanes and traffic lights just for cyclists. Given this infrastructure and the fact that the bulk of the country is as flat as a pancake (also a local specialty), bikes are the ideal way to get around over short distances, for example in a student town. Of course, they are also eco-friendly and help you to stay in shape!

LEEUWARDEN Leeuwarden is situated in the north of the Nether­ lands, about 140 km north-east of Amsterdam and only 100 km from the German border. The Wadden Sea (UNESCO World Heritage) and its four islands are a haven for both pristine nature and water sports, and they are within 20 km of the student city Leeuwarden. The historic city centre of the ‘European Cultural Capital 2018’ not only boasts a captivating cultural heritage but also numerous cafés, boutiques and small shopping streets. APPLICATION PROCEDURE EU and non-EU students applying for Bachelor’s/Master’s programmes EU and non-EU students need to apply for a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme through the national application system Studielink (www.studielink.nl) before the deadline. The next day you will receive an email with your Stenden email address which you need to use to create an IGO Stenden account. You can upload your documents to this portal account and check the status of your application. If your English is not sufficient, we will set up an English Language Course application for you. The complete list of all the necessary documents for uploading can be found at www.stenden.com. All international students (except residents of the EU*/EER, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Monaco, USA and Switzerland) who plan to stay in the Netherlands for more than three months need a visa to enter the Netherlands. Stenden’s International Office will help international students to apply for the visa using an accelerated procedure. As well as the entry visa, the International Office will apply for the residence permit, which will be issued for the duration of your study years. Information about the study programme Since 2014 Stenden Hotel Management School offers a three year Fast Track programme for students with a suitable high school diploma (entry level for academic universities). This programme consists of 180 European Credits (60 credits per year) and is a shorter, more intense Bachelor Programme on a higher level. DIFFERENCES TO THE FOUR YEAR BACHELOR PROGRAMME: › Predefined order of courses and classes › One specialisation minor instead of two › More self study WHAT DOES NOT CHANGE? › 20 weeks of practice in the 4* Stenden Hotel › 10 month paid management internship in more than 60 countries › Study abroad for 10 weeks is possible

Study programme YEAR 1: THE SERVICE INDUSTRY In the first weeks of your study you take part in a programme that introduces you to the service industry with extra workshops, activities and self study. By means of subjects such as Marketing, Human Resource Management and Finance students will gain significant insight into the organisational structures of the hospitality industry. Next to theory classes you will get to know all departments of our 4* Stenden Hotel during practice. You will also be promoted to operational manager or supervisor during your first year. Theory classes will focus on tactical management insights, such as business procedures and quality assurance. Next to lectures, workshops and PBL, a relatively high amount of self study will be expected. You will also elaborate further on your languages skills and take part in language classes: French, Spanish, Russian or Mandarin. YEAR 2: BECOME A MANAGER The second year focuses on strategic management including important topics such as financial management, increase of turnover, market research as well as writing a business plan. As a preparation for your dissertation you will, together with a fellow student, research the internal or external strategy of a company. In the Stenden Hotel you get promoted to manager and receive the responsibility for an entire department. To deepen and broaden your knowledge you can choose to do a specialisation minor in the Netherlands or at one of the International Campus Sites in Thailand, South Africa, Indonesia or Qatar. You can also choose to do two minors, however then your study will have to be extended by 10 weeks. YEAR 3: START UP YOUR PROFESSIONAL CAREER In the third and last year of the programme you will do a paid management internship for 10 months. Next to the internship you will work on your dissertation. Stenden has access to a network of 600 internship companies in more than 30 countries including four and five star hotels, cruise lines, event agencies, banks and insurance companies and others. The majority of students find a job within four months after their graduation and are often even recruited by their internship company. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS To get accepted for the Fast Track Programme students need a suitable high school diploma (entry level for academic universities). For a list of accepted diploma’s please visit the website. Additional requirements may apply depending on the country of origin. Please check the general admission requirements for Bachelor programmes on the website. EU students need to apply online for the education ‘International Hotel Management 3Y FAST TRACK’. This programme is accessible for a limited amount of students. Students will be selected by a motivation interview after application and before the summer vacation.
