YOUTUBE & FILM MAKING Summer computer camp CurriculuM-2019

DAY 1

YouTube Mechanics and Basics of Filmmaking Lesson 1-1: YouTube secrets: how to create and promote a channel STEP students will learn how to: register their channel (requires parents' permission), adding an image avatar, description of a channel, and cover photo. Using Canva we can create beautiful and catchy thumbnails. All videos created during the camp must be on personal YouTube channels. Lesson 1-2: Photos and short videos for transition Our goal is to create a series of branded photos and videos that can be used in any future video on the channel. We will create photos and short videos to express funny, serious, dramatic, or embarrassing moments. This library will be a great resource for the channel. Lesson 1-3: Reverse and slow-motion videos Let's start improving our video skills by creating reverse and stop-motion videos. STEP students will learn how to edit video series, add pictures, remove or add sounds and background music. Videos will be created outside the campus in Parc de Vermont..

DAY 2

Recording Videos with Sounds Lesson 2-1: Processing sounds Do you know how sound is created in Filmmaking? They are recorded separately, and in ways you never thought of. For example, for the sound of snow, they use packets of starch. The sound of something breaking is made with cabbage! So, it's time for us to learn how to edit and add sounds to videos with Audacity - a special program that comes with a number of cool pre-installed effects. Lesson 2-2: News Reporter Video - Shooting Let’s imagine ourselves as news reporters. A very specific genre! You have to be both official and stay interesting. Our students will have a chance to create their news about the camp events, do weather reports and add some sports news. After everyone is finished it's time to put all the pieces together in one video. Lesson 2-3: News Reporter Video - Editing Editing is where the best videos are produced. STEP students will put different videos together, adjust their sound levels where necessary, add transition effects, and learn how to add informative call-outs.

DAY 3

Creating new sounds and effects, shooting proclamation Lesson 3-1: Creating New Sounds We continue our journey into the world of sounds by creating unique effects with the use of materials such as wood sticks, glasses of water, coconuts, brooms, and rags. With this, we can “paint” a silent video with our own sounds and voices. Something called Foley, which is very specific to the filmmaking industry. Lesson 3-2: LIKE-Magic App Just a few years ago adding special effects to your videos was a tough job, but now… there’s an app for that. The same technology that’s used by Snapchat or Instagram, but for a better cause. One that STEP students will use to edit and affect their futures. Lesson 3-3: Proclamation for Education Rights Today is an important day. STEP students will make a speech. The subject is on the importance of educational rights for children. The video will be additionally processed by our marketing team and shown on the final day during the presentation of projects.

DAY 4

Shooting Stop-motion and Interview Lesson 4-1: Stop-Motion Video Stop-Motion video is a very interesting concept of videomaking. It does not require much technical knowledge or skill, but it gives a beautiful effect to the final product. STEP students will create a series of still images and compose them at 0.5-1 second intervals. After adding sound the video is ready! Don't forget - it's better to shoot from 3 or even 4 different angles. So before starting, it's better to have a clear plan. Lesson 4-2: Interview Video - Shooting With this lesson STEP students become interview style reporters. We go outside and ask members of Geneva's public 4-5 questions on our chosen topic. The content will be taken back to our IT production lab for editing. Great street interviews can quickly bring popularity to any starting YouTuber. The idea is to ask tricky or intriguing questions. Lesson 4-3: Interview Video - Editing On this editing day, our future filmmakers will compile all of their content adding small transitions of Geneva landscapes: lakes, parks, and landmarks.

DAY 5

Creating Educational Video Lesson 5-1: Education Video - Script Writing and Shooting Teaching is the best way to solidify what you've learned. On this day, STEP students will create an educational video for other children about everything they've learned during this interactive week of YouTube & Filmmaking. They’ll develop their script, add in the funny moments and candid shots, as well as insights and ideas. They will share with future viewers and potential STEP students the details on

how to start their own filmmaking adventures including what techniques and software to use. Lesson 5-2: Education Video - Production & Editing On this production day STEP students will finalize and compile all their videos into one complete project and prepare them for final presentations. This is also a great chance to speak with our teachers about ideas for future video series for personal channels. Lesson 5-3: Presentation of Projects Presentation of projects to parents, final photos, and awarding of certificates.

Just in 10 years technologies evolved from smartphones to 3D printers, robotics and artificial intelligence. Thanks to the speed of data transmission our lives changed radically. Even greater changes await our children. Junior Computer Academy is a special program for children ages 7 to 14 to prepare them for the future challenges. In 2017 the program was awarded as a Champion during World Summit on the Information Society-2017 in Action Line C4 "Capacity building".
