An emphatic start to the month. The beginning of two new cup campaigns. Still top of the table.

The big fish, small pond syndrome has been evident in football for many, many seasons. One of United’s latest acquisitions, Ashley Young, is perhaps the most emphatic of that notion in recent times following a spell at Aston Villa where he bossed the side, only to now be surrounded by a squad full of exceptional players. Steve Brady explains this idea and what it means for clubs.

“Il Nino is not, and has never been a bad player. He is not past his peak and won’t be for a few years yet.”

In the coming months the team will be selecting their Manchester United XI each issue. The only stipulation - they can only choose players they have actually seen.
