STEPHANIE HASKEN DESIGN PORTFOLIO 2015

DRAPED DRESS | TAILORED COAT For this project, I wanted to create contemporary garments with historical inspiration. Tailored coat inspired by the structured silhouettes of 1870’s jackets, made with 100% wool and 100% silk lining. Draped dress inspired by 1960’s A-line dresses.

IKEA PROJECT Using fabric that was generously donated by IKEA, this project is about celebrating the simplicity and innovation of swiss design. This reversible handkerchief dress is inspired by items found in the garden section of IKEA Marketplace. Black and white pin-striped cotton, white floral lace, and suede detailing. Styling by Sydney Murdock Photography by Dustin Powell Sparks

DRAPED EVENING DRESS Inspired by the silhouette of 1949 Miss Dior perfume, and Christian Dior’s “New Look.” Strapless fitted bodice and flared skirt with side seam pockets. Midnight blue acrylic coated cotton.

CFDA ILLUSTRATIONS Inspired by the ripple effect, literally found in water, and in the relationship each person has with another. Our actions affect many people, not just those around us. Cool grays, deep blues, and warm reds illustrate this collection and the high contrast betwwen extreme emotions — joy, sadness, anger, peace.

KOTSOVOS Fur Design Contest Winner The Kotsovos Fur Design Contest is an opportunity for students to design a fur garment that is donated to St. Vincent de Paul for a charity auction and fashion show in Cincinnati. The illustrations below show mahogany mink, black mink, and silver fox fur. As a result of this project, I was hired on as a design intern and participated in the construction of the entire garment from initial sketch and patterns to runway.

DESIGN COMMUNICATION | LAYER For this project, I was asked to design a collection of separate garments around the traditional method of zip closure. I chose to utilize the zipper as a closure, decoration, and for construction. I created a “paper doll in order to ideate different ways of layering the separate garments for the design process. This project challenged me to create pieces that are versatile, functional, colorful, and ultimately fun to wear.

DESIGN COMMUNICATION | SILHOUETTE Inspired by Christian Dior’s “New Look,” this collection features an a-line silhouette with emphasis on the shoulders, a nipped-in waist, and full skirt. Wool, silk satin, and tulle are utilized for superior structure and versatility in movement.

DESIGN COMMUNICATION | ELIMINATE Collaborative project with designerTessa Clark. Together we illustrated 10 complimentary looks for Fall 2013 RTW inspired by an Egon Schiele painting and pixelation. Using paper paint chips, Tessa and I created a large-scale pixelated print to replicate a pixelated Schiele painting. The print is placed on skirts and trousers in the collection. We chose to demonstrate the ideation method “eliminate scale, color, pattern, texture, and price point. Silver fox and dyed mink fur coats paired with fitted pencil skirts, cropped or long trousers, and leather accessories.
