Stephanie Marshall Knitwear Project
to twist awry or out of shape; make crooked or deformed Blurring the lines/mixing. Forming something fluid, something NEW.
Jenny Saville’s paintings contain distorting of the face and body, as a way to portray and exaggerate its reality and provide a sense of severity to the viewer. Flesh tones and monochrome is something I would like to incorporate as my colour palette. I want to present the knitwear as some from of distortion and disfigurement of the body.
Chunky and thick knitwear is something I am interested in as I love the warmth and comfort it provides it also encompasses the idea of Distortion, when its twisted and mis-shapen, Its bulky magnitude creates a lack of structure also. Tying and knotting is another aspect I would like experiment with to heighten aspects of shape, dimension and brings it to life.
Foiling on the knitwear would provide a correlation to the theme of distortion, along with fraying, holes and creating unusual shapes within the garment.
