Uhtceare print Brief

Page 1

The concept of our first collection evolves around childhood memories, innocence and fear. We have decided to focus on the elephant hawk moth, an iconic moth of the British isles which boasts bright pinks and greens (representing Innocence). Accompanying the hawk moth is a hornet wasp, representing fear in which we decided on the title ‘Hawk & Hornet’. We have a further development of the meaning behind the concept, but for the purpose of the brief we are keeping it open to interpretation. Uhtceare directly translates as an old English term used to describe lying awake at dawn, worrying. “Uht” refers to the hour before dawn; “ceare” means “care and sorrow”. This is another design aspect we would like to include in the capsule collection. Your brief is to design one to three different final print concepts based around this that will be used on what is stated above (Tshirt, Hoodie and tote bag). Please demonstrate development with your ideas, and keep as close to the concept as possible. Below are images of mood boards and our development work to help you understand the general colour palette and inspiration for the collection.
