The building's envelope concept is developed based on the previous established 1500mm building module. The façade system for this building is double facade. The combination of two facades from a glass ventilation. It enhances the ventilation and protect the interior of the building from direct sunlight and heat. The inner façade is a unitized curtain wall system. Each building module is installed in a split mullion with the installation of curtain wall unit (1500mm) and louvre. It allows the hot air to exit from the interior to the space between the two façades, raise and eventually exhausted from the building. The outer façade is made up of a triple layers laminated glass with a one-way-vision decal on the middle layer. This assists with sunlight protection as well as enhancing the architectural design of the building with the ability to create a decorative façade expression. This layer is linked back to the building with a 1 meter width steel walkway mesh deck walkway. It is designed to assist the maintenance of the outer façade. STRUCTURAL TRUSSES

FACADE DESIGN OVERVIEW The façade system is designed to align with the overall design of showing the change of form after each mechanical level and to appreciate the structure the building. Therefore, we would like to set back at each mechanical level. It is done by having a double façade. On the other hand, the horizontal decal pattern of the outer façade is designed by the building form idea. The cutting edges of the building is seen in a horizontal way, making a circulated perspective. We would like to continue the whole idea by having horizontal pattern instead of vertical pattern.

NORTH FACING

2pm in Winter (Northwest corner)

The 1 metre steel walkway between the two faรงade is acting horizontal shade to the interior. The sun shading study illustrates the ability of the horizontal shade to block the sun in summer; while allowing more sunlight and heat to enter in winter. Since the sun is coming in the north side, in order to prevent heat loss in winter from the west side, double glazing and low E glass will be used.

This building is designed to have a 30degree angled crown facing North. The angles shown are the optimal altitude angles for photovoltaic cells in Melbourne. The photovoltaic transparent glass panels transfer the direct conversion of solar energy to power for supporting the operation of the building.

This building utilizes a double facade with a 1 metre steel walkway mesh decking as the passive ventilation system. The outer facade has one-way vision decal on laminated glass.

COLD AIR IN

In cool season, cold air comes in from the 300mm height windows from the outer and inner facades into the interior, warm air goes out from the louvres to the space between the two faรงades and exhausted out eventually. In hot season, the windows of the facades will be closed. Cold air supplies from the air duct through the ceiling diffuser, from the louvres to the space between the two faรงade and exhausted out eventually. Also, the outer facade has one-way vision decal on laminated glass so as to block sunlight from all directions.

The automa c sliding door is referenced from Dorma. It is the EL301 framed sliding door si ng inside the steel framed glass airlock at the entrance. Refer to h p://www.dorma.com/au/en/products/ opening_closing/automa c_sliding_door_operators/el_301_as/index-16490-16574-16575.html for more detail.

The structural glass facade type used for this building’s podium is cable truss type. It is using the spider fixing and the truss by the cable wiring going through through the cable node for sustaining. A Bolt assembly is used to connect in between the spider fixing and the facade glass. Refer h p://www.enclos.com/service-and-technology/technology/structuralglass-facades/facade-structures/cable-truss for more detail.
