By designing an archive centre at a suburb with a mixture of residential and light industry buildings, especially locating in the middle of a less busy street, it has to be aesthetically different in order to stand out and show this artistic side of Brunswick culture to the public. The analysis of the vegetation, materiality, street pattern and the public& private use of the site are the concerns which alters the design and concept for this project. Spaces are divided clearly to ease the direction for visitors and circulation is a critical issue for this archive building therefore the circulation bridges, corridors and ramps will be perceived more significantly. As it is a multi-functional space that I decided to use form-follows-function concept to generate the idea and then add in circulation pathways to make it as an interesting and exciting building. This building is going to be gypsum, concrete and glass in major for the façade to make a clean and transformational building compared to the surrounded buildings. For the middle “lane-way” between the two parts of the building also the front ground areas, they are created for visitors to spray graffiti on to include the element of Brunswick cultural art. The idea of making all the circulation pathway greenery both interior and exterior gives a sense for visitors to experience the building spaciously. Given that I want to keep the idea of giving aesthetic effect for the visitors while walking around the building, circulation pathways interiorly are basically either semi-opened or fully opened so that they can enjoy the Brunswick view as well as the graffiti arts around.
