Let your imagination come alive at this exotic symphonic blend of music inspired by the Arabian Nights and Sufi Romantic poetry. Last performed by the A2SO in 1992, Scheherazade showcases each instrument in the orchestra. Ann Arbor’s own award-winning composer Evan Chambers’ Crazed for the Flame begins with a Rilke sonnet and blooms into a radiant homage to Qawwali music. Savor Elgar’s Cello Concerto, one of the most noble cello concertos ever written, and a piece on every listener’s — and cellist’s — bucket list. From a visionary group of musical enthusiasts who first gathered in 1928 to the highly polished ensemble it is today, your A2SO continues to share its passion for orchestral music with our community, bringing the joy of music and an appreciation for excellence to new audiences of all ages, reaching more than 40,000 children and 30,000 adults each year through: • KinderConcerts, where toddlers – 6-year-olds enjoy a free halfhour program of music, story-telling and motion with a child movement specialist, pianist and A2SO musician. • String Instrument Petting Zoos that come to classrooms, day care centers, shopping malls and the Summer Festival and help each little one play a violin or cello. Sponsored by Shar. • Meet Your Conductor, where Arie visits schools to conduct and talk about music and leadership. • Ensembles in the Classroom, where professional musicians support schools’ music programs. • Daytime Youth Concerts, where over 5,000 elementary and middle school students learn through a concert experience designed specifically for them including written curriculum, CD and teacher workshop. • Side-by-Side Concerts, a life-changing opportunity for student musicians to sit side-by-side with A2SO professionals and perform a concert together. • Open dress rehearsals, where young orchestra musicians and student conductors can watch a professional rehearsal in action, then meet with the musicians and Arie. • Program notes — at the concert, on-line, large print, just for kids, and even a “graduate-level” edition! EASY EXCHANGES Can’t make it to a concert? No worries. Just call the A2SO office by 5 p.m. of the day of the concert (12 noon for family concerts) and you can either exchange the tickets for another concert this season, or get a donation receipt for your tax purposes.

MAKE AN EVENING OF IT Since you know which nights out are on your calendar, make an evening of it. Park in one of the easy-access parking structures near the Michigan Theater, then enjoy a tasty dinner before you join Maestro Lipsky’s lively Rehmann Preconcert Lecture from 7 – 7:30 p.m. After the concert, have dessert and a glass of your favorite beverage as you and your friends talk about the great concert you just experienced!
